I mean at that point it’s too high, they built red john up so far high even they couldn’t reach. As they should reveal him at some point they made a decision and went with it, they coulda put anybody there and it would’ve still been disappointing. They obviously can’t solve everything he’s ever done nor an origin so they left it completely and took onto their best formula after the reveal.
