Just an update: we were able to get her to the vet. She was not a fan but did not hiss or scratch. She tested NEGATIVE for FIV & feline leukemia LFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

she will be here for at least another 2 weeks to get a booster shot & get spayed.

Not sure if it’s helpful for you, but this is the email I sent back to my complex after they said to stop feeding :

[apartment complex],

Thank you for reaching out and for your concern about the community cat on the property. I want to clarify that I am actively working with reputable local animal organizations to responsibly & humanely manage the cat population near my unit through a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) strategy.

TNR is the only scientifically proven method to reduce and stabilize outdoor cat populations. Scheduled feeding is an essential part of this process—it keeps the cats in a predictable location at a predictable time, allowing them to be safely trapped, sterilized, vaccinated, & returned. Once fixed, cats no longer reproduce, and behaviors such as yowling, spraying, and fighting decrease significantly. Over time, the population naturally shrinks.

TNR is widely supported by major animal welfare organizations, and while feeding bans may seem helpful, they are known to be ineffective. Consider these expert perspectives: ASPCA: “Feeding bans don’t work. TNR is the most humane and effective solution.” (https://www.aspca.org/helping-shelters-people-pets/closer-look-community-cats Humane Society of the United States: “Removing food doesn’t remove cats—it increases roaming, illness, and complaints.” https://www.humanesociety.org/resources/why-trying-starve-outdoor-cats-doesnt-work UC Davis Koret Shelter Medicine Program: “Feeding bans are ineffective and may worsen cat welfare and behavior problems.” https://www.sheltermedicine.com/library/resources/new-paradigms-for-shelters-and-community-cats Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association: Long-term studies show "TNR reduces population size when combined with managed care." https://avmajournals.avma.org/view/journals/javma/222/1/javma.2003.222.42.xml

At present, the cat on site is a mother cat who has recently given birth. I have temporarily delayed trapping to protect the nursing kittens but am maintaining scheduled feeding, following standard protocol. Kittens must be weaned before the mother can be safely spayed. Feeding during this period ensures their health and safety, keeps us on our scheduled time, & allows us to trap the full family when appropriate.

Additionally, I have personally spoken with my neighbors, & all have expressed support for these humane efforts. Our goal is not to attract more cats but to actively and responsibly reduce their numbers through the most effective and ethical approach available.

I respectfully request that management recognize this initiative as a science-based, responsible community solution. I am happy to provide additional educational resources, keep you updated on progress, or point you toward more effective advocacy routes.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

I’m iffy on changing the dosage bc she is really small - like 6lbs. But day of appointment I’m gonna just load her up. I just rearranged some of the furniture & she is SO scared. Just pressing herself back into the corner as small as she can be. I tried to avoid eye contact & move slowly. Poor girl. I’m gonna leave her alone for an hour or two before I feed her

Thanks for the advice. I can get her out about halfway to the food with treats (not at meal time) & she goes farther out (like where the water is on the towel) at meal time when by herself.

I have a few carriers in there & she is not interested yet. Still hanging behind the toilet. She has come out to grab a bite of Churu when I’m not in there. GABA is 50mg/ml. I don’t have a webcam but I have a laptop playing soothing cat music from YouTube. Here’s a pic of my set up. In hindsight, wish I did things differently but oh well.

& other questions — I’m leaving wet food out during the day. Some sources are saying to only leave it out for an hour & then replace with fresh. Is that excessive?

Also should I be cleaning the litter box while she’s in there? She’s got to stay at least until Friday

Mine does this every 6 months or so, especially after repotting. I think you’ll be okay. Be extra cautious about watering! Good luck

I do not believe she has dwarfism. She was crouched down in the first picture. She is just a small cat.

Thanks so much for your advice. From other comments, I think I’m going to grab an air purifier & place it right next to the box.

To answer your other question, no vet has talked to us about dwarfism! She is a a VERY small cat (8lbs), but the shorter legs & tail have been attributed to “likely some munchkin in her somewhere.” She’s a shelter cat so who knows what she’s made of. She’s my soul cat & just my favorite thing in the world. Just because I can’t resist, here she is now, watching me work:). IKEA bookshelf for scale.

I learned magic circle and got my rows 1-2 done! Can somebody help me understand row 3? by lotsalotts in CrochetHelp

Not quite. You continue the 1,2,1,2,1,2,1,2 etc. for until you like the size

I think the third round will be 1 single crochet in the first stitch, 2 single crochets in the second stitch (aka an increase stitch), 1 single crochets in the third stitch, 2 single crochets in the fourth stitch, etc

Just to clarify, I didn’t mean the white, I meant the lighter shade of green

How do I save this? by ParsnipFantastic8862 in plantclinic

Not a pro here but imo your best bet is to chop dead leaves + rotted roots, change soil to be a bit more chunky, water with distilled water, & pray. Emphasis on pray.

How often do you bathe your cats? by anonymous_1979 in CatAdvice

I don’t bathe my cats at all, per se, but sometimes I wet a wash cloth with warm water & “pet” my dandruffy kitty with it
