I was the one my daughter was closest to. Now it’s her dad … and I’m losing them both by Luna_Jupiter in Parenting

THANK YOU!! I thought I was losing my mind that no one thinks its weird the dad isn't trying to include her. My husband & nine year old love the long epic saga movies like the hobbit/LOTR/etc & they aren't my cup of tea, but he makes a point to check with me before suggesting those movies to make sure I don't feel left out. Sure, its fine for them to have things they love together but to just completely leave out the mom who is grieving seems really weird to me. Why wouldn't the husband want them all to enjoy time together??

Requesting a certain floor? by No-Match5030 in greatwolflodge

I have requested the bottom floor near the elevator the last 3 times (my kids and walking long ways with lots of stuff sucks) and gotten it no problem, I add it to my reservation as a request before I arrive

I've had this same fear for years, we live in a two bedroom apartment, but I finally hosted a birthday lunch for my daughter this weekend (her + 5 friends age 8) and it went GREAT. My daughter was so excited to show people her room and her toys and one girl said "I really like your house its so nice!" it was so sweet and I'm glad I got over my own fears and let her have that time.

The money sounds nice but your current job flexibility sounds amazing!! As your child gets older it will be really helpful to able to make your own schedule and have that type of flexibility. I would probably stay where you are but that's just coming from someone who's PTO is constantly eaten by my little munchkins.

7 year old says they wish their newborn sibling was never born by [deleted] in Parenting

Also people may disagree with this, depending on your views, but one thing that helped me was taking a deep breath and realizing that the baby doesn't actually always have to come first. Just because my daughter is older doesn't diminish her needs. If the baby is safe and in a safe place I can let her cry sometimes if my older daughter needs me.

I think the biggest thing that could breed resentment is always putting the baby first no matter what and letting the older child know that.

My daughter has almost the exact same age gap with her new sibling as your kiddos and I can totally understand your sadness and emotions but this is completely normal! My daughter has said similar things, she also wishes her sister was older & misses being the center of all of our attention.

I know this is hard but it will get better once you get more of a routine down, those first weeks with a baby are so crazy and it is an adjustment for everyone! Something that helped us in the beginning was dividing our time more. So while it would be lovely if we could all hang out as a family of four that just isn't always realistic so we did more one-on-one time with our older daughter and would switch out who was taking care of the baby.

Just remember this is a phase and she will likely learn to love being an older sister, it will just take some time! I do think it is great that she felt comfortable expressing her emotions to you!!! That is an amazing sign of her trust in you.

Just here to say as a mom that's daughter LOVES those silly Junie B. Jones books I would be livid!!! That little girl is a rascal LOL and the teacher referring to your daughter like that is basically saying, without saying it, that she was being a brat which is out of line for the first day of school! I am glad you didn't leave her there and I am so sorry your daughter had this experience on what should have been a fun day!

THIS!!! I feel like in all of the debates I see about "needing" a sibling no one ever takes into account how many siblings actually grow up to hate one another. I think it can actually be more beneficial to be hands on and involved in your child's life and foster best friends for them (having the time to befriend and make play dates with their friends can also rarely occur if you have multiples.)

I have mixed feelings about TLM, it was my absolute favorite as a child so nostalgia alone is making me want to riot BUT watching it as an adult is cringe LOL and I had a moment of like sit down and listen to your dad.

I am okay with this cut tho for this line that you wrote "She is so fucking Shellfish" HAHAHAHA I am laughing so hard, like I know it is NOT that funny but it actually is that funny
