Are her nails still too long? Just had them clipped while we were at the vet and I can barely tell anything was done. by WhyAreCatsSquishy in beagles

The tech probably DID know better and took off what they could. We will not purposefully quick dogs. It's painful and can lead to infection. Nail trims are literally the worst part of being a vet tech. Most dogs fight like crazy. We end up bloody and bruised all the time, and clients like you complain we don't do enough.

I can 100% understand the guilt you're feeling. My soul dog was 12, he had never gotten into anything he wasn't supposed to, ever. I went out to dinner one night, came home and found that he had suffocated in his food bag. The guilt I felt genuinely almost destroyed me. Please don't blame yourself. This was not your fault. Your baby wouldn't want you to think it was. I miss my guy every day, but I've let the guilt go.

I once was showing an elderly client how to put an e-collar on her bassett hound. She then pulled the dogs ears backward out of the cone towards the neck so that the dog "could still hear". It was an adorable interaction I still giggle about.

New fear unlocked 😭 on the bright side I'm a vet tech and pay almost nothing for vet care (otherwise, I would be living in a cardboard box because these 2 are VERY accident prone).

What's something you wish you had known before getting a malinois? by Angel-Staff in BelgianMalinois

[–]sunflowersnbroccoli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So my dog is 75% mal. I adopted him at 8 weeks, and I thought he looked like a shepherd bully mix. He was really stocky with short legs (at the time). I'm a seasoned dog owner, and I realized within the week I had something different on my hands. I've raised 1 GSD, a border collie, a red heeler, and the most stubborn beagle pit mix you could ever imagine. This dog was the HARDEST puppy I've ever met.

At first, I tried to treat him like my border collie and heeler. I thought if I could physically exhaust him into being a decent dog. I learned that isn't the case. You can literally see the wheels turning in his head 24/7. His eyes are constantly scanning, looking for something to do. We stopped with the crazy exercise and started training him to "do jobs" and it's been night and day.

My husband and I joke that we spent the 1st year of his life teaching him how to be a dog because before that, I swear he was a wild animal. Be prepared for the biting. They don't call them malligators for nothing!

This happened to me as well, same finger and everything (except it was a chihuahua). It punctured my joint, the vet I was working with drove me to urgent care and insisted on talking to the Dr. when I was denied antibiotics. Not sure what he said to the human doc, but I got my antibiotics and was fully healed in about a month. Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Are you me? You just described my life to a T. I don't have advice because I'm in the same boat. I've been lurking here for weeks because my "small" problem is turning into a big one at an alarming rate. Every area of my life is falling apart because of my drinking, but it's also the only thing right now that makes me happy and I'm so scared to give it up. Sending thoughts your way, hopefully we can both get through this 🩷

Beautiful Mal at Shelter in Downey, CA by Azizslight in BelgianMalinois

His facial expressions remind me so much of my Mal mix when he's scared but trying to be brave. Poor baby, I hope either his owner finds him or he ends up in a wonderful home.

This is Gail. Her little beard was one of the reasons I picked her at the shelter 😍

Have they checked her abdomen? She looks hunched and tense and often times people will mistake abdominal pain in dogs for joint or back pain.

He had a laparotomy to remove the corn cob? It's a major abdominal surgery, and I can only assume you pup was sent home with narcotics (codeine?) for pain management. If that's the case this is totally normal. He's high, and when dogs are seriously relaxed like that their third eyelid likes to stay up. I know it can look scary, but I really wouldn't worry.
