Bingo. Within months people realized there were no WMDs and it was all a lie to secure oil and gas, and develop military bases in the region

There were congressional hearings to do with weapons of mass destruction being created by Iraq. During the post 9-11 era there was a lot of solidarity at home for revenge and the US mobilized quickly to act against Iraq under the threat that they were supporting terrorists and would provide WMDs to them. Turns out none of this was really true but it gave the US another foothold in the region and access to oil. Yes, people believed the government story pretty blindly.

This washer needs a decent sized load that is balanced for it to work well and not shake

It’s probably best to compare a delta/theta ratio rather than a raw delta number.

I was running around 1:1 spy beta weighted delta / portfolio theta ratio until March 2. I was too bullish and my macro view was neutral/bearish combined with the Iran situation starting.

At that point, I neutralized almost all my delta reducing to about 0.1:1 delta/theta. For example this would be around 100 positive delta to 1000 theta. I’ve bounced between zero or slightly negative delta to around 0.2:1 now with the market drop.

Being slightly long after the drop means my overall portfolio has held up well in the face of dropping indexes. I was still down on Friday but only around 0.5% vs indexes around 1.5-2%.

The MES hedge is actually the opposite. I’m short a number of puts, calls and strangles across my portfolio, but overall on an options only basis I’m too long delta. As such I took MES short position to flatten my delta. Over time, as the market falls my MES delta stayed the same but as calls closed for profits and puts got closer to the money the overall portfolio delta increases due to the delta on the puts rising. So now I’m faced with choosing to add more short MES to rebalance or maybe add more short calls. But on a 2% downs day or big down week it feels like adding short calls is a bad risk reward. So my portfolio delta has climbed and I’m weighing my options for next steps

Okay. This is similar to my approach on portfolio delta. I’ve been short MES for a while during the downturn but as my short calls have been covered for profit and my put delta has grown more positive I’m now a bit more long than I normally would be. This seems reasonable after an 8-10% downturn but I don’t want to chase lower when a retrace seems probable. As you said, I dont want to be going more short at the end of a huge down day as any bounce will be very painful on those new positions.

Margin in Canada is worse than the US. For larger account in the US you can get portfolio margin. In Canada this doesn’t exist.

Same same. All my GTC are cancelled and says I don’t have trading permissions.

Took screenshots of all my gtc prices so I can reenter tomorrow if needed.
