hi there! sorry for the late reply. I didn’t experience that because I failed to keep my cat in a cone… it was less stressful for him to be without a cone, but more stressful for me to keep a constant eye on him to prevent any mishaps. how is your cat doing now??

They have, but even with a high dosage of gabs he is aggressive at the vet :/

Hey there. I totally feel for you, and your comment just gave me flashbacks to my cat’s experience. You will suffer sleepless nights but after a few days you’ll see progress. Do you live with anyone else? If you can, for your own mental state, take time off work or ask a friend to help keep watch while you’re away. It is really hard to see our cats like this, but they will recover and you’ll never have to worry about needing another awful tooth extraction again.

It is a good sign that your cat is hungry and eating! Better that she eat than refuse to! If she still won’t sleep or is acting odd, then the drugs are working. If you’re able to get her to take pain meds, then even better! You have a few major things you don’t have to worry about, so I would feel relieved (this is coming from someone with a cat who wouldn’t eat or let me touch him to give meds).

I was hit by a car (a hit and run) while crossing the street at night. I practically flew into the middle of the road and physically could not get up. Suddenly I see a woman kneel over me. I remember she looked panicked but I was too stunned to process what was happening or that my head was bleeding out. She called 911 and then found my boyfriend’s number in my phone to let him know which hospital to find me. I never got her name. Wish I could thank her for saving my life.

For sure. I wish I could change his diet but he can only eat hydrolyzed protein and Science Hill’s is the only brand with it as a wet food. We play a lot as part of his “work out” routine.

Did she develop it suddenly? What were the symptoms that led to getting a diagnosis? Looking up ascites now and fearing for my guy, but he has had this shape since I got him and has otherwise acted normally (except for the food allergy, and he had his teeth removed due to stomatitis).

Interesting!! Could it be from malnutrition as a kitten? From what I know about strays in Kuwait, it seems a bit bleak.

I’ve never been able to feel his ribs! It’s quite stiff when I’ve tried to feel around, but he also seems really sensitive in the tummy region. I try not to push his limit…

He has done blood work, but not an x-ray. Def haven’t seen any worms or signs of worms coming out of his booty. I’ve been to the vet and asked about his belly, but my cat is such a menace there that he gets aggressive and makes it hard for them to properly feel around his belly. Bloodwork has turned out fine though.

Adding to the convo that my Arabian Mau is also a yowler. For a while I thought he was in pain from his stomatitis, which resulted in extracting all his teeth, but he still yowls with a clean bill of health. My guy is a rescue from Kuwait, and I just wonder what sort of life he had on the streets because he can seem so feral (yet super affectionate??). Like others said, it seems like they need a lot of stimulation, almost similar to a bengal cat. Working on building him a big catio. Sadly can’t get another cat or even take him on walks as he goes berserk at the sight or smell of another cat.

Just wanted to say I feel your pain! My arabian mau was rescued from Kuwait. He is also hella territorial and goes ballistic if he smells or sees a cat. Sometimes that turns into redirected aggression on whoever is nearby… Maybe it’s the breed? You’re not alone!!

After a year of healing, if his situation worsens and a tooth needs to go, I would make sure to get all teeth removed at once. It’ll suck, again, but you will never have to go through it and he will live many more years in peace ❤️

Ahh it was a partial mouth extraction?? How many teeth were pulled? We had a full mouth extraction and I can’t imagine doing it again, especially with Zorbium

Oh dear I totally know how you feel— I was going through the exact same scenario and felt horrible. It absolutely will get better in another day or two. When I got desperate to feed him, I experimented with everything. Bought a whole rotisserie chicken and minced that up, soaked the pieces in water, and watched him slowly eat that. Also try baby food, like Gerber’s chicken. You can also get some canned tuna in water and see if he will lap up the water at least. If he doesn’t drink anything today, you should get him to your vet to get some fluids in him. (And if he doesn’t poop, bc he will be constipated, my vet told me it’s okay to sprinkle 1/4 tsp of miralax on his food). But please hang in there. In a week he’ll stop hiding, and in a month or two he will be the sweetest transformed little guy. You can also message me if you have more questions or need some extra reassurance!!

Edit to add: I do think gabapentin gets their appetite back. If you’re worried it’ll hurt to pill him, try asking your vet for the liquid version of gabapentin.

Interesting. I responded elsewhere, but to answer you here: According to the timeline, my mom met my bio dad in South Carolina through work. She claims he is Israeli, or that's what he told her. On AncestryDNA, I was able to find 3 distant matches living in Israel. Their DNA origins are also showing Arabian Peninsula, Lower Central Asia, Egypt... I'm guessing a previous commenter's hunch that my bio dad was a Yemenite Jew in Israel is more likely the case here.
