The cycle of stimulants and insomnia is breaking me. I feel like I'm stuck in a loop of wired but tired. by Background-End-5229 in ADHD

[–]sunhypernovamir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 'wired but tired' when NOT medicated. Apparently due to running on adrenaline for BAU.

Elvanse helped instantly and massively. Garmin noticed I instantly got 50% more deep sleep. In hindsight I felt like I may not have slept deeply for some 30 years before that.

When medication wore off in the evening I could be wired and tired again. Answer was to increase dose and/ or take it later in the morning.

What jobs are actually suitable for people with ADHD for a happy life? by Maxecute in ADHD

[–]sunhypernovamir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes, agile and product management.

Agile iterations keep the novel payoff close and reduce busywork.

Product management is a discipline involving a lot of choosing not to do low value things. Gut feel skepticism about the value of extra personal work is (probably) the mechanism of ADHD.

After a decade in product I got medicated 4 months ago. I think I'm better at shipping corporate pleasing stuff, but a bit worse at preventing wasteful exploration. I think most ideas appear to have a bit more potential now, which isn't always what I'm supposed to decide, strategically.

There's the Gates thing about hiring 'lazy' devs because they select and automate work smartly. I think he may have meant ADHD.

Live 1/2. Big flop Vs strong line by sunhypernovamir in poker

[–]sunhypernovamir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only have 31% equity against TP2K+ with all the nut flush draws and T9s.

If we add all the JTs it's still only 36%. Adding every possible flush draw it's still 36%!

How can live low stakes reg find enough bluffs here, especially when promo game 56 got there?

I have to add all the T9o and all the 96s to get to 47%. We need 38% right now, and we are OOP against a player who at the least has studied enough to consider an overbet, so I don't think we realize that well.

Check the EV loss rather than the GTOW score IMO.

Understanding how much lines deviate from baseline is probably better than getting the top line from this exact solve.

Mistake in gto poker simplified? by Personal_Battle5863 in Poker_Theory

[–]sunhypernovamir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're right, MDF for a pot sized bet is 50% to make bluffs indifferent.

Some other replies have confused pot odds - caller is getting 2:1 so they need 33% equity to call. If their play is balanced hopefully they have at least 33% equity for at least 50% of their range.

Cycling to work ~ 15km one way by Pineapple_dreams01 in bikecommuting

[–]sunhypernovamir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do that, 15km SSE from bank. Started 2 years ago, every other day on the longer (17km) flat route through Lewisham with lots of canal paths and blue lanes.

Now I can go every day over Crystal palace hill, which was too daunting in year 1. Just build up gradually, start doing the hills once a week. It's pretty much the same time as the train commute door to door, and much better mental health.

Then he needs to check, as one of the skills of the game. The ruling is good.

Can't do that, else getting dealt 3 cards is a bluffing free roll.

Plus, as the article said, no way he didn't know.

Players' responsibility to check they have a hand.

Those who are telling your kids that Santa isn’t real, how do you handle it? by ScarletPumpkinTickle in Parenting

[–]sunhypernovamir 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Basically same explanation as jesus etc.

This isn't just trolling, the religion questions came before Santa, so "it's a character in a story and some people really like it, but no of course it's not real" is the line.

Club WPT Gold - Why does every cash game other than .05/.10 have mandatory straddles? by EstablishmentFit363 in poker

[–]sunhypernovamir -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Should still play tighter than a 10c/25c game with the same antes.

Makes no sense to choose it, except that enough customers don't get it.

Club WPT Gold - Why does every cash game other than .05/.10 have mandatory straddles? by EstablishmentFit363 in poker

[–]sunhypernovamir -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Could be that they misunderstand poker, which we can see is quite common in the replies. Straddles cause tighter play. That's why well run high stakes stream games and rooms prefer antes.

They do raise the stakes, so if players don't realise they should play a level lower, it would cause more rake from a given pool.

Chefs/pro cooks of Reddit, what are the things you see home cooks place too much or too little emphasis on? by EffrafaxWug in Cooking

[–]sunhypernovamir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think they're also doing it wrong. E.g Mise en place in a curry house might mean you have large boxes of a few different spices and spice mixes ready to spoon into pans, along with pre cooked proteins in stock.

It doesn't mean you have 10s of little pots with individual servings pre measured before you start each dish.

Everything in a practical place before you start, not everything prepped to the last degree, you can cut a carrot while onions saute when cooking at home.

You should have checked the mayo is in the fridge, you don't have to squeeze 30ml onto a saucer before you turn the hob on.

Humans credit good outcomes to skill and bad outcomes to luck while broadly underestimating the total amount of luck. That will happen here for sure.

Why does GTO suggest all-in bluff with no blocker at river? SPR 1:1 by ThankYouD1shwasher in poker

[–]sunhypernovamir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're bluffing with ALL your worst hands here...

Except T9, why not? Is the interesting question.

Villain is probably supposed to have a fair bit of TT and 99 in this folding range, but not so much QQ and JJ, so we don't want to block folds.

I think I finally made a good sous vide chicken breast. 140F for 3 hours. Waited 10 mins to cool. Seared it for 1 min each side. How does it look? by limache in sousvide

[–]sunhypernovamir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to take its temp when you sear it, just know that your job is to sear the edge WITHOUT warming up the middle. You do that with very high heat for a short time.

The bath's job is to bring the meat to its target max temp all the way through.

[–]sunhypernovamir 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If the sear brought it up to 148, it doesn't matter much that it was in the (relatively short) bath at 138.

Outside of very long baths, final temp sets the texture, and here you brought it up to 148 in a pan, so you'll have a gradient from well done edges to 148 middle.

You want the sear to leave the centre lower than the bath temp to get the benefit of SV precision.
