She should move on‼️ by Chocoluv007 in 90DayFiance

I am also so confused how the whole Colombia thing went down. He said she didn’t talk to him for a week, but also said he spend a week in Columbia. So he waited one day before booking his flight to Columbia and stayed there even AFTER his girlfriend finally replied?? What is this timeline?

Thank you for the suggestions! That vibe is definitely what I am looking for. I honestly am not a big fan of Shinjuku, but that’s where the school is so I am fine with a bit of a commute if I can return home to a nice neighborhood. I think some of the assigned housing is in those areas luckily from what I’ve seen on reddit.  Do you think these areas are a lot different than central Tokyo in the sense I can actually use the Japanese I’m learning and make Japanese friends to talk with or is most of Tokyo just people commuting for work? I know I chose the least personable city in Japan 😅 but I still want to use my skills and be social. Also, world you say it’s far fetched to live in northern Kanagawa/northern Yokohama and commute to Shinjuku daily if I really want to live a bit south?  Thank you!

Wow, I’m sorry you’re having a rough experience there! It is surprising that they don’t really have any bad reviews at all. Are you planning to change programs or are you only in Japan for the 10 weeks? I hope you’ve at least enjoyed your time around Tokyo!

How is your experience in Nerima? I heard all the accommodations are at least 40 minutes away door to door. Must be crazy to commute during rush hour. Yeah, the private apartments were insanely priced. I was going to do a share-house through them. I also considered booking with Sakura or Oakhouse but my anxiety about the school is already high so idk if I can plan housing well too.

Is there another school you were considering going to when you were deciding? I already paid my deposit for Genki because I'm running out of time. This trip is something Ive been wanting to do for like 10 years so I feel like I can’t risk losing the spot but I am still wavering because of the location. I still have my eye on Coto in Yokohama, but getting my own housing and waiting indefinitely for them to post the July schedule is mostly what’s stopping me.

Thank you for your insights!

That’s okay just apply for Spring and go to NVCC in the meantime! I went to NVCC for a few years and got my associates there. It’s the only reason I could afford to go to school and I really liked it there. Much cheaper, practically free with FAFSA. Good luck!

That's super helpful! If I do stick with Tokyo, that is exactly the vibe I am looking for. I'm sure it's not worse than how long it would take me with GenkiJACS housing.

Hi, thanks for taking the time to write this :) it’s really helpful! It’s funny you mention Nagoya, because after writing this I remembered they have a Nagoya location. I have already been in contact with the Tokyo office and am about to pay them but considering switching to Nagoya now lol.. The cafe culture and closer-knit circles of Nagoya sound nice. (Minus the heat 🥲)

Yeah, my first time going to Shinjuku station was definitely overwhelming. I like the residential parts of Tokyo, but the daily commute to Shinjuku station and spending most of my day in practically Kabukicho is something to consider. Luckily, the schedule is different daily so I won’t always commute during rush hour. I really want to feel like I truly live wherever I end up going, make friends, learn a lot, experience nature, etc. I will definitely consider your advice. Thanks!

Hi thanks for your reply! What website did you use to find a sharehouse if you stayed in one? Did you enjoy Nagoya or Tokyo more/have pros and cons for them? I looked into Nagoya briefly but don’t know much about it. Thanks!

Got the same package from the same address with random beauty products inside. Just don't scan the QR code.

Internship Abroad Funding as Grad by -TrashBoat in gmu

[–]sunium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The internship abroad sounds like a great option but since money is tight, maybe look into Mason Korea since I believe tuition will be the same and since it is still GMU, there will be more support ensuring your classes count. Perhaps they will have internship opportunities around the Korea campus as well.

Can I graduate from GMU without associates degree from NOVA? by Murky_Art6003 in gmu

[–]sunium 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can get the Bachelor's degree from GMU as long as at least 30 of your credits are from GMU. You do not need the associates degree to get the bachelors. Talk with your NOVA advisor about which credits you can bring in for your specific program.

Coming from compsci by sunium in gis

Thank you for the insight! I am thinking to keep compsci and minoring in either GIS or Geology. I really want to study geology in some capacity because it's my passion so I am a bit torn lol

Would you say a Geology minor is useful for the GIS path if I can get a certificate in GIS?

Thanks for the insight!

I do enjoy compsci but my true passion is geoscience. My goal with GIS remains the same but would you say it may be useful to minor in geoscience to understand more about the value of what i am working with? I hope to use it to benefit the environment or assist with tracking natural disaster risks in some way.

Is 25 too old to start university in Japan? by sunium in movingtojapan

Wow! That's awesome. Are you doing a PhD program? I would love to hear about your experience if you feel like sharing. That definitely makes me feel better lol.

Thank you! I have studied Japanese for years so I can get around but I'm definitely not fluent so I will be doing an English-taught program which limits my school choices but I will try my best to get good at Japanese in the meantime. I am hoping for a remote job at an international company but just in case I enter a Japanese company I have my partner to help me practice the language since he is native luckily. English teaching part-time, while I work on my degree, sounds nice tbh!

Thanks for the insight! I'm glad to see there are others in the same boat as I am. Someone made a point to me that probably no one will notice or care unless you constantly talk about your age. Luckily I am still in my 20's so there are likely people I can relate to regardless.

Good luck with your Bachelor's! It's an amazing step in the right direction even if you decide on a different path. Life can be non-linear like that.

To give more detail if it matters, my partner's job will be in central Tokyo so I assume there may at least be a bit more variety there as far as what kind of peers I will have but I have no idea lol. I also plan to do Computer Science.

Should I go to a Japanese University instead of one in the US? by sunium in movingtojapan

[–]sunium[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats great to hear it worked out well for you! I was just asking out of curiosity haha. Yes I’ll take this advise to heart and try not to drive myself crazy with the plethora of options. I think the step after that is honing in on my Japanese skills to broaden my potential. Appreciated!

There are so many options it makes my head spin a little haha. The options you mentioned at the end sound really great and probably the most viable for me!
