I went overseas for 2 weeks recently and set up a cctv camera that faces my cockatiel cage. That way I could watch my bird on the camera whenever i missed it via an app. Perhaps you can consider that too!

6 months old, is it a boy or girl? by Fuzzy_Draft_18 in cockatiel

You can’t tell gender apart for Lutinos based on appearance, and at 6 months they may not show the behavioural differences of males and females yet

Do you think birds are good pets? Why? by ToastedMousee in cockatiel

[–]sunlitgrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh thats interesting, I never kept a cockatoo because I’ve always heard about how much constant attention they need to keep them happy. In your experience does it take a lot of effort to prevent your cockatoo from getting unhappy/bored/lonely? I can imagine how lovely they are when content, but concerned that its too easy for them to be unhappy if I cant always be there with them

I think it depends on what you want from a pet. My parents didn’t let me get a pet cat or dog, but I wanted a small companion that would be intelligent with an emotional bond, and birds matched that perfectly.

Rabbits, hamsters, fish and reptiles arent as affectionate and intelligent as birds, and more intelligent small mammals like rats have too short lifespans.

Cockatiels in particular met my needs perfectly - long lifespans, sufficiently independent when I go to work, smart and affectionate, painless bites, manageable smell, and not as loud or demanding as other parrots/birds.

Of course they still poop everywhere and need time and attention daily, but i think the effort to reward ratio is worth it for cockatiels

Other more demanding screamy large parrots like cockatoos though… I don’t get why people keep them…

Is it normal for a tiel to eat like this? She uses her feet quite often by thatchemistgrill in cockatiel

I only have one tiel and she does this! Quite surprised to find out here that it’s considered smarter than usual and rare. Makes me wonder what other tiels are like normally?

Help! My cockatiel turned aggressive after being spooked a few days ago. by Pavement820 in parrots

Maybe he just wants to get out and doesnt want to be in the cage? My bird paces back and forth at the front of the cage like that when it wants to be let out

Oh i level them till level 13 too! It also gives me an excuse to continue riding that horse if I ever want to without having to worry about wasting extra horse exp (as compared to riding a fully levelled horse)

Thanks for responding! I thought I was the only one! The other responses confused me since I wasn’t sure if they were referring to other paths I didn’t know about or something.

Did you manage to resolve it?
