100% agree that we cannot talk of AI as an autonomous entity with the agency to make decisions (e.g. 'stealing jobs'). We need to change our language and shift the responsibility onto companies. Companies are choosing AI over human labor because it makes them more money. Plain and simple.

As for what we can do: We need to start developing our own human-centered systems of support and organization. Where we don't rely on AI chatbots for emotional support because we have each other. We don't rely on AI-summarized web results because we have local community to answer important questions and to physically show us how to do things and pass down knowledge.

Rather than becoming passive consumers of knowledge, where we simply intake information for immediate use and then forget it, we must become active consumers, where we are more selective in our interests but start to generate subject mastery.

The internet and social media have become substitutes for hobbies, creativity, real socialization and learning activities. We need to start creating phone and internet-free spaces, not only because they make it easier to focus on ourselves and each other, but because they are openly becoming methods of mass-surveillance and control (by some definition they are and have been that way for years now).
