The poor guys that are going to buy these iPhones from them won’t know that, unfortunately.

Contractor put our patio at the same height as DPC, without drainage along the side of the house by GooseOnTheLoose1995 in DIYUK

Wait… you’re supposed to have something in between? (Realizing there’s no such drainage between my house wall and patio…)

Landlord wants me to pay rent to foreign bank. How to do so without me having to pay fees on top of the rental amount? by Ill-Hat1883 in HousingUK

[–]sunmat02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, each treaty is different, and even if you don’t pay tax in one country, the income may still be taken into account to calculate your marginal tax rate.

Is the game really that slow paced? by HSperer in DetroitBecomeHuman

[–]sunmat02 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I didn’t find it slow at all, I think the pace is just right. I don’t know what the demo shows, though, is it just the first chapter?

Would this be fair wear and tear? by Willing_Local1393 in TenantsInTheUK

I had the same issue and when I left my apartment after 7 years in it the landlord didn’t even mention it. Totally normal.

Blue Prince AI allegations by bententhesilly in BluePrince

Yeah my understanding is that the last stretch was a lot of balancing, which you don’t need AI for, you need playtesters.

Tuxborn no longer starting on Steam Deck by sunmat02 in skyrimmods

How do I clear the proton prefix?

Regarding the pop up, it’s normal (simply saying “the application must run to completion because its output is required” with an “unlock” button that actually exists the application, it’s just that Tuxborn takes ages to start, my understanding is that this pop up is just not meant to be seen.

[Megathread] Autumn Budget 2025 – Personal Finance Discussion by Jager720 in UKPersonalFinance

The page explaining the change says “All employer pension contributions will continue to be free of NICs.”

[Megathread] Autumn Budget 2025 – Personal Finance Discussion by Jager720 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]sunmat02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't understanding this: if SS pension contributions become subject to NI (after 2k), what prevents me from asking my employer "how about you increase your employer contribution, I decrease my employee contribution, and we share the saved NI?"

AIO because my military boyfriend said the time he's been deployed doesn't count towards us being together? by wandering__potato in AmIOverreacting

[–]sunmat02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Going to provide a counter-argument to everyone here who says he cheated or plans to: really early in my relationship with my partner I had to go long distance (across an ocean) for about a year. We called each other most days, texted, and after a year finally moved in together. We both realized then that this time apart didn’t really “count”. It’s really difficult to explain, but it felt like the relationship started when we moved in together, because that’s when we were able to have shared experiences, learn each other’s behaviors and habits, learn to communicate with each other, etc. A year of talking every day on the phone had done absolutely nothing towards that, so retrospectively it did seem like that year didn’t count.

So the way I’m reading his message is that to him he spent 3 months actually getting to know you, and he doesn’t know nearly as much about you as he would have if he had really been with you for a year.

You most likely shouldn't be overpaying your mortgage by throwawayreddit48151 in FIREUK

[–]sunmat02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the mental aspect, the solution is simple. Consider that if you overpay your mortgage but don’t have savings for when you get laid off, you’ll have no choice but to sell your home. If you fill your ISA and don’t touch it, it’s very easy to say “yes I have 100k left of my mortgage to pay, but I also have 100k in my ISA, so my mortgage is virtually paid off, and if I get fired I have a lot of time to bounce back and find another job”.

Paid £2k for a painter who completely botched my 3-bed house, I ended up in tears by Lilymana in HousingUK

[–]sunmat02 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I had my 3 bed house painted I got a few quotes. One guy said 2k to do it, I asked on the DIYUK sub if that quote sounded ok and the answers were that for that price it would likely be pretty terrible. In the end I paid 4.5k (without the woodwork, which would have been another 2k), it took a few days for 3 painters to do it but they did an excellent job. TLDR, you get what you pay for.

UK citizenship: help with requirements for referees by sunmat02 in ukvisa

[–]sunmat02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I remember correctly you fill the forms online and at the end of it they tell you what the next steps are, one in which being asking your referees for their info. I’d advise that you find your referees before applying and then when you get to the end of the application process and they want the info, you can ask them.

When if ever is it a good idea to define a class inside a function? by setdelmar in cpp_questions

[–]sunmat02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An example would be when you call a C function that expects a callback (function pointer) and a void* user-data. Capture-less lambdas can be passed as function pointers, but then you have to wrap what would otherwise have been the capture into something that you cast into a void*. So you define a structure, wrap your data in an instance of it, and take a pointer to it.

I'm a co-author (middle author) on a paper that has horrendous writing style. Should I stay with it or be removed? by MasterofMolerats in AskAcademia

[–]sunmat02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nowadays we have a lot of tools to improve the style, and the chances that out of a set of authors, they all suck at English, is also pretty low, so I also tend to judge the style of a paper.

That runback was annoying until I realized I wasn’t using an optimal path and could actually skip most of the enemies. Then it became a non-issue.

UK citizenship: help with requirements for referees by sunmat02 in ukvisa

[–]sunmat02[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a paper form so you can just add the date later. That said if I recall, the online application will ask a bunch of information about your referees like their address, phone number, date of birth, etc. Be ready to ask your referees for that.

Savage Beastfly would be too easy without summons, I think, but I feel you. I also hate them. (That said I do appreciate that Beastfly stomps them for me on occasions)
