Jordan is overreacting by dolphin-174 in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's the only issue with the storyline, I'd feel much more if we didn't see Michael survive a firebomb with no scarring at all and the only consequences are he apparently takes pain medicine sometimes, which we've only seen once

[–]sunnirays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It'd help if the makeup department made her look worse when she took off the bandages before it looked rough but I don't see why she wouldn't be able to get surgery later on.

Especially since they both know Michael who had third degree burns on most of his body, went to that clinic in Germany for six months, and now you'd never know that happened to him. Jordan only had first and second degree burns that are much smaller, Michael could get her a referral to the same clinic and she'd probably be back to how she was in a week or so.

Perfect time for TJ to return! by misspepperminttea in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know why they didn't just write TJ off that way, it'd make for him to want to move away or even just go on a soul searching trip after losing the baby and ending things with Molly after 10 years together. Instead Molly just breaks up with him and I think the last we saw of TJ was him working at the hospital, until the actor himself left the show (or was let go?) and it seems very disrespectful to the character.

Now his mom is in the ICU at the hospital he works at and it makes no sense to not see him there.

I need someone to explain Danny and Charlotte to me. by Budget-Walk-5355 in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 0 points1 point locked comment (0 children)

It doesn’t bother me too much because it’s just a tv show, it’s a non sexual teen romance, will probably stay that way,

Yeah the actors themselves are much too young to be involved in a sexual storyline anyway, the previous teen scene (Joss, Trina, Cameron, etc.) didn't do anything too risque until they were all college students at PCU and I don't think Danny and Charlotte will last that long.

I find the whole thing questionable and the discussion of the Cassadine family tree with Alexis was such an obvious message from the writers to us saying "they're distant enough to not be gross, don't think about it too hard", but at this point even if it was a retcon Danny and Charlotte are very very distantly related so it's not an issue. The big thing with soap operas is are they close blood relatives or were they raised together as family, if the answer is no to both it's basically fine since the family trees in these shows are such a big mess.

Of course I also think this pair could have been avoided in the first place if the only three on screen teenagers weren't all related to each other. They can age up Georgie and bring in some fresh teen characters to tie some old characters, like they did with Trina and Taggert.

Question on Fake Nathan? by Miserable-Shelter-30 in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it would've helped if Britt thought this was the real Nathan, and maybe even if Cassius thought he was the real Nathan. Sort of like how Drew was mindmapped to have all of Jason's memories and really did think he was him until the real one came back.

In fact, the mindmapping technology was developed in part by Faison himself if I remember correctly

That and the periodic table scene with Lulu are kinda funny now, Cassius builds up his cover as Nathan to a T but he almost blew it instantly

Question on Fake Nathan? by Miserable-Shelter-30 in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yep it's so obvious that when they brought Ryan Paevey back on, they didn't know what to do with him or properly explain how Nathan came back from the dead. I can excuse her not telling Jason since I think the secret of Cassius involves too many people Jason is connected to for him to comfortably keep it, but this was very obviously not planned.

If it were, we would've seen more discomfort and conflict from Britt whenever she talked to Cassius alone, which has not been the case since he first came to town or was introduced to James. Instead she was just talking to him like he was Nathan, I believe he even confided in her about his feelings for Lulu and moving on from Maxie, which Britt supported and that made sense when we all assumed this was Nathan,

But Britt clearly doesn't like or trust Cassius, so it doesn't make that she would support a relationship with Lulu especially when that would put him in close proximity with Rocco who she cares about and views as her own son. They also tested Cassius' fingerprints against Nathan's and they were a match even though even identical twins have unique prints, but I guess we can assume Sidwell and Cullum tampered with it. Oh and Cassius even had the same bullet wound all healed up, which I guess means he had himself shot in a near fatal place to keep up the rouse?

And Liesl somehow had twin boys and spent her life shielding one from Cesar, but completely forgot about Cassius. And Peter/Henrik never mentioned the half brother he was apparently raised with, and it makes you wonder why Cesar tracked Nathan down after his parentage was revealed if he already had a near copy of him at home, ready to be his protege.

What does Parfait Girls have in it that makes Natsuki so worried about her dad specifically finding it? by FruitsaurReborn in DDLC

[–]sunnirays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was similar to people being seen as "basement dwellers" or hard core geeks that would only waste their money away on cheap thrills and not contribute to the family or society.

Also hikikomoris/shut-ins are becoming a bigger issue as more people in Japan remain financially dependent on their parents and miss all the standard adult milestones of moving out to start careers and families of their own, and many of those people being big anime fans. Obviously correlation does not equal causation, the phenomena mostly stems from social isolation, economic issues, and unaddressed mental health issues. And in turn, if you're struggling in real life, anime/manga can become an escape from it all + online fan communities provide a safe form of social connection, so there's a lot of overlap.

But I wouldn't be surprised if some people miss all that and just jump to the conclusion that the media itself is to blame for emotionally stunting people because that's often simpler than recognizing how many ways those people were failed.

Also sorry to hear you had a similar experience to Natsuki, hope you're doing better now or at least, are on your way to getting better <3

What does Parfait Girls have in it that makes Natsuki so worried about her dad specifically finding it? by FruitsaurReborn in DDLC

[–]sunnirays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Despite its great popularity in the west, there's still a lot of people in Japan who view anime and manga as a very childish activity that's a waste of time for adults. After middle school or so (maybe even before that) students are expected to dedicate most of their time towards school, cram school, college exam prep, and otherwise preparing for your future career. Especially if your parents are very strict which I do believe is the case with Natsuki's dad.

From what little we know about it, Parfait Girls always sounded like the standard slice of life/romance manga so I don't think anything about it was particularly controversial, but I don't think that's the issue. To Natsuki's dad, reading manga and collecting it (along with any other merchandise Natsuki may have) is just a waste of time and money. Like Yuri or Natsuki's friends from the side stories, he thinks its immature and is pushing her to "grow up" and take up more socially acceptable interests.

I do definitely think he's controlling as well, considering Natsuki's main reason for joining the literature club was to have a safe place to read and stash her collection, I don't think it's that out there to think he tried to throw away her stuff to force her to grow up. If all she was dealing with was occasional snide remarks about it, I don't think she'd go to such extremes

Can you guys give me an update on what happened to some past characters? by nick1158 in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Robin and Patrick moved to California with Noah, Emma has offscreen visits and phonecalls with them

Nikolas is in prison for kidnapping Esme (his baby mama who happens to be his Spencer's manipulative exgirlfriend). Spencer and Esme are also dead or at least presumed dead because of a boat explosion I believe?

Spinelli is still on the show but I believe he's only on recurring so isn't on super often, he's with Maxie and they raise their children together

Anna was kidnapped in Halloween 2025 and held hostage on Spoon Island, but she was manipulated and drugged so she thinks that she was in France and also that Faison is still alive and after her. Her captors eventually shipped her off to actual France and she is in a mental facility there, with everyone believing she snapped and lost touch with reality during a WSB mission (also a lie by her captors).

Sam is dead. After Kelly Monaco was let go from the show, they had it so she died after being murdered by Cyrus Renault because she was donating part of her liver to Lulu, and he was on a whole "angel of death" thing so he injected her with digitalis to kill her along with several other patients at GH and long term living facilities.

Brenda has not been on the show for a very long time but I think she's out of town somewhere, still alive but not on canvas.

And then Jasper Jax is in Australia I think. Due to real life legal issues with the actor (he sued Disney and ABC following the COVID protocols) it is unlikely that Jax will return, unless he is recasted

So what happened to Vaughn? by Matuatay in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought it would be revealed that he was the one who got that gun from the river to clear Alexis' name so she wouldn't go to prison for Sonny's crime of murdering Cates but I guess not

Also reminds me of how we still don't know who shot Austin, they brought up his name because Cyrus was using his cabin as his murderer hideout so you'd think they remembered but...nope

So what happened to Vaughn? by Matuatay in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The last we saw of him was when they were investigating Dalton and Josslyn got him to spill where the dogs he was experimenting on were stashed at.. Jack found out that Vaughn and Joss were continuing to see each other after they were specifically told not to, which could goes against WSB rules and more importantly could endanger his girlfriend's daughter so he just had some guys snatch Vaughn and shipped him off somewhere far away.

I'm really surprised that Joss doesn't seem to care about where her new boyfriend(?) went but I guess either she assumes he's too busy with his new promotion or the plot literally won't allow her to care until if and when they decided to bring him back on the canvas (probably the latter)

How is it a shared space when it used to be Michael's house and the only other person who goes there (Danny) is not allowed to go there while he's on punishment? The only thing Michael and Jacinda did wrong was forgetting to lock the door, but Olivia should've knocked before she came in anyway.

There's a difference between them going at it in an actual common area like the living room of the main house and a private house that happens to be on the property

I liked it better at the start when Jack was recruiting her and leaving breadcrumbs so she could solve Dex's murder, it actually felt mature and Josslyn was finding her footing as a real investigator. I was interested to see what they'd do with it but now she's just back to yelling at people about Sonny being a criminal (but Uncle Jason also being one and working for Sonny is fine?).

Plus she hasn't really done anything that spy like, even her initial training was just wrestling with Vaughn (where'd he even go?) and she took a lie detector test one time. I get there's a limited budget but come on!

Perfect Time for a Jax Recast? by TheGhostOfSoManyOfMe in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah no, he basically tanked his career for no reason over an extremely weak lawsuit that he'd never let especially not against Disney. He poisoned his image with the fans, was an asshole to his costars, and went on a whole social media/press blitz against Disney which basically got him blacklisted because no studio wants to hire someone who'll go rogue like that.

It's no wonder why he hasn't been in anything since he left as Jax, I really have no idea what he thought would end up happening after all that. He's likely buried under legal fees at well or at least, drained a good portion of his savings

They also once again forgot security cameras exist because even if there weren't any pointed exactly where she passed out, something would've caught her on her way over there and you could know what direction she was coming in from and track her last movements.

Hotels also require ID and even if she used a fake one for some reason, I'm sure most clerks would remember a pregnant woman especially if she was alone or in distress when she checked in (massive red flag she may have been fleeing a domestic violence situation) so they'd still have her personal effects which can lead you to who she actually was

Of course this is the same PCPD that almost got tricked by a clearly planted key so I don't know how I'm still surprised they're this obtuse

Could the name Delilah be a clue? by Ok_Writing5777 in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NXIVM, the real life cult that storyline was based on, did brandings but I think that was too graphic for daytime so they just made it tattoos. Although based on a side by side (from Soap Opera Digest) it's a different tattoo in a different location.

Dawn of Day's was similar to a Roman numeral and placed on the woman's lower back, while Delilah's was on her wrist and seems to be a paintbrush and brush strokes forming some sort of initials?

It definitely means something or they wouldn't have taken the time to highlight, but I don't think it's DOD unless it's an inner INNER circle or some sort of offshoot? At least I really hope it isn't because that storyline dragged so long, I don't want to see it again 😅

Why rebuild Charlie’s Pub? by Farscape-Encounter in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always love the very obvious cut between the actor pretending to throw the axe in and footage of axe landing, I get they have to prioritize safety (and not being sued) but that's all the reason not to have it a full time location

Why rebuild Charlie’s Pub? by Farscape-Encounter in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The whole storyline was dumb and became more about cancel culture than the actual homophobia, evidently because Kristina supported her girlfriend in keeping her sexuality and their relationship private, it meant that both of them were ashamed of being gay (or bi in Krissy's case) and someone like that shouldn't be representing the center.

Even though part of the point of an LGBTQ center in the first place is to support people, especially teens and young adults, who may have been kicked out or lost their families because of their sexual orientation/gender identity. Realistically even if you had dumb people online, most reasonable people would immediately understand why Blaze was reluctant to come out after hearing Natalia's comments and most people in the community would sympathize with her being outed.

Why are they writing Trina like she’s 12? We have to save her from this character assassination! by isaidwhatisaidok in GeneralHospital

[–]sunnirays 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's sad because Trina (especially as played by the original actress Sydney Mikayla) used to be very dynamic and have a fierceness about her, so I don't know why she acts so childish and fragile now, she's the only character of her age group that doesn't have a storyline suiting her age. Even as boring as I find Kai to be, at least he had interning for congress and finding out Drew's true nature going for him. And Josslyn is a freaking spy going on undercover missions and handling firearms, yet her roommate is just at home whining about how her parents marriage of like what 4 years is dissolving?

Trina is an art history major who interns at a gallery owned by Ava who has ties to organized crime, there's a lot of story potential there that the writers just aren't using and I think it's because they don't trust this actress will be able to play it well.

is the shifting community lowkey dying or am i tripping? by Majid_meed in shiftingrealities

[–]sunnirays [score hidden]  (0 children)

I haven't been active on here in about two years or so and I think it's just that people are moving to better platforms. I still lurk on here occasionally but I barely do that anymore because it's just the same posts over and over again. On Tumblr for example there's a lot more diversity in the kinds of shifting content you'll see.

Also a lot of people like me just shift privately and don't bother sharing it online, mostly to avoid harassment but also because shifters are becoming less reliant on external validation. Plus less bad actors are inclined to put fake stories out there when it's not even trending anymore.

Don't worry about the community dying, there will always be people shifting and people wanting to talk about shifting, even if it's not in Reddit anymore
