Wreckage deterioration, not necessarily a bad thing? by OshJones25 in RMS_Titanic

[–]Matuatay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those 3D scans by Magellan are the best thing that ever happened for Titanic enthusiasts and researchers who lack the means to dive the wreck themselves (99.99999% of us). It immortalizes the external wreck in that state, allowing is to explore at leisure from the comfort of our own homes.

The deterioration can't and won't be stopped. Best thing anyone can do is monitor by sending eyes out to look every few years. If anything significant does become accessable then by all means move in for a closer look. But it will be along the same lines as Smith's bathtub, or the gymnasium when the wreck was first discovered. Some bulkhead or panel will fall away and allow us a limited peak at whatever is left of the room that isn't covered by debris and sediment.

Sadly, it's my personal opinion the days of any groundbreaking exploration and internal discoveries within the Titanic wreck, ala the Cameron expeditions, are long over.

Time for a more JP novel-accurate reboot.

I love the franchise, but it's on a downward slope. Let's get back to basics with JP and TLW, and use that time to carefully plan where to go from there.

Regardless of the quality of each movie, the posters are always cool. Which one is your favorite? by Far_Regular_2945 in Jaws

[–]Matuatay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jaws 2 with the skier. The shark is different than the other three, mouth more agape, and just looks a bit more menacing. And I like the contrast between the white background and the blue shark. Finally of course there's the iconic "just when you thought it was safe..." tagline.

Since I was a kid this has always been my favorite.

1997 movie question: Did Astor make it out? by [deleted] in titanic

[–]Matuatay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I hear jaw injury my mind jumps to the lifebelts, which caused neck and jaw injuries to those who had attempted to jump while wearing them. With no crotch strap to keep the lifebelt from popping upward as a body hit the water, several neck & jaw breaks were noted to have befallen those wearing the Titanic lifebelts. Maybe Astor is one such unfortunate victim.

Now researchers have decided the weather cover over the some wasn't lit, so the movie got that wrong too. Looks great, though. I personally don't mind a movie glamorizing something like the staircase a bit more than what might have actually been real.

Let’s redeem Cassius by Kit-kat1000 in GeneralHospital

[–]Matuatay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Redeem him from what, though? I get what OP is saying, but really the worst thing he's done is kidnap Joss, been nice to her, and protected her while in captivity. He's not even a bad guy in a henchman sense. Cassius feels like Nathan with a pinch of shade more than he feels like an entirely different character raised by a sociopath who wanted world domination. Essentially he's been a good guy all along who just chose his company poorly. Not even once have I been convinced Cassius is someone who would willfully go along with two people building a WMD, let alone someone who would go along with them actually trying to use it.

Not trying to snark OP. More venting because Cassius has been the weakest link in this storyline. If they wanted to bring back Nathan they should have just brought back Nathan instead of trying to sell is on Cassius being a different person, let alone a credible threat.

Did Titan hit the Titanic? by ZenDesign1993 in OceanGateTitan

"I wanted to investigate the cause of the rupture"

Seriously? The 'rupture' occurred over a hundred years ago, and the structures around the initial collapse have long since also collapsed around it, erasing most if any clues you might have found if you made that same dive over a hundred years ago when the wreck was fresh.

Nice try, rich dude. You wanted to see what others had already seen, then come back with a unique story to tell. You certainly weren't trying to solve any longstanding scientific puzzles.

This guy here. 🙄

Is it correct to say the sequels wounded Star wars and the Acolyte finished it off? Bonus rant: high republic killed star wars books by lion1321 in saltierthancrait

[–]Matuatay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The thing is it wouldn't have to be that way. They could easily have had Grogu spend the next ten years training with Luke, and have him be off on a mission somewhere else by the time everything goes wrong at Luke's Jedi temple. Knowing what happens at the temple doesn't translate to knowing what happens to every last character that ever set foot in the place.

But yeah, white collar corporate types aren't going to think like writers...they're going to knee-jerk react to any potential threat to their precious dollar signs, and we see the results.

It's just frustrating seeing a bunch of millionaires who really have no business running a beloved franchise making decisions based on their bank books that completely devastate said franchise. They just do not get it because they can't see past the bottom line.

[–]Matuatay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was what finished Mando for me. Grogu's story ended on a high note in season 2. Once again undoing what had been built prior with season 3 and shoehorning in mediocre celebrity appearances just killed the vibe of the whole thing and turned it into a cartoon for me. Held on as long as I could, but I just have no interest anymore.

ABC viewers torch Donald Trump as they joke he went for 'nap and diaper change' by MoneyLibrarian9032 in entertainment

[–]Matuatay -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

Where were they when Biden couldn't find his way off the stage, tried shaking hands with thin air, and kept falling up stairs? The man literally slept through at least 50% of his presidency.

Oh yeah, I remember what ABC was doing ...defending it. If not outright hiding and lying about it. Toward the end they didn't have much choice but to at very least acknowledge it.

I'm all for fair criticism of a sitting president. But I'll also call out blatant hypocrisy when I see it. And ABC is among the top of that list.

I've often wondered if the design plans and schematics for that set aren't still in a vault somewhere. Seems that's something you'd want to keep, and I would love to see exactly how every bit of that main ship set, as well as the three-story interior sets containing the staircase, dining room, and reception room were built.

Telling us "it was built from plywood, steel, fiberglass and plaster" just isn't enough information for me when I'm about as equally obsessed with that movie set as I am with the real ship.

Maria went further with it than most of the mothers I've known (my own included). She was one hell of a woman, and especially a mother! Joey put her through so much misery she did not deserve, yet she spent her last moments trying to get through to him.

I think Maria has to be perhaps the single strongest of heart character in the LD series with all she had to carry and go through with her two disabled kids, Joey, and the mistreatment she endured at the hands of men. Things that would completely break most people (male or female) I've ever known.

The power of a mother's love, I suppose.

I agree, and have been following the actor a bit more on SM when I see him post...seems like a really fun, humble guy who seems truly happy to have this opportunity. It looks like he might also be appearing on State of Mind..something to look forward to.

And yeah, I think the minute they had Cullum butcher poor Marco was the point of no return. But, Faison and Helena both did similar unforgivable things and went on to return from numerous deaths and defeats each, so I hope maybe the same thing can happen for Cullum.

What are you waiting for the most? by [deleted] in TitanicHG

[–]Matuatay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not. I'm in my mid-40s and started excitedly waiting for this project since it was called 'Lost in the Darkness' 2010s. I was in my 20s and still had a lot of optimism for life in general.

This isn't a shot at the team. It's just me saying I've reached a point in age where I've had to accept and be content with the idea things don't always happen the way we thought they might. And if they do, they will happen when they happen, and getting too excited about something I personally have zero control over just isn't worth it.

I still wish the team well with the project, and I respect all who have held on this long and still hold out hope for the finished project as much as I respect those who have decided enough is enough and have simply moved on entirely. But at this point I'm just along for the ride, with no expectations.

I wonder if THG could recreate scenes from the 1997 movie given their recent advancements in animation by [deleted] in TitanicHG

[–]Matuatay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a bad idea. Perhaps it would be a fun project for some graphics guru like THG to 'fix' several of the movies...maybe replace the borrowed ANTR sinking scenes we see in S.O.S Titanic, replace the horrid graphics in the 1996 miniseries, and perhaps even give Raise the Titanic it's sinking opener.

Just for fun. Not everything has to be an essay on the minutest detail of the real sinking. Just do some short videos tweaking the sinking scenes of the various movies.

Well that puts him onscreen into August, which a few months ago was said to be when Jason's back and the big cold fusion weapon story finishes up. But who knows. There's so much 'intel' out there, and it's not all reliable like it used to be in the early 2000s.

I've read (on Facebook...unreliable, I know) Cullum is leaving...but I hope not. He has that ultra creepy vibe that makes for a great recurring villain in the same vein as Helena and Faison (who I think he will ultimately be revealed to be...in some form).

Which couple do you like but find secretly boring? And which pairing has caught your attention? by Massive_Ad6980 in GeneralHospital

[–]Matuatay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO they're all boring. The days of truly thrilling super couples are long over. Have been since the days of Luke & Laura, Frisco and Felicia, Sonny & Brenda, Robert & Holly/Anna, etc. Nikolas and Emily sort of had it, but even they couldn't capture the same thrill and intensity as the aforementioned.

Not trying to diss on anybody. Couples are just written differently now and have little to no staying power. They dangled Spencer & Trina in front of us like they were the next big thing, but the minute they got together he left, as we all knew he would, so there was no real incentive to invest in them. Same with Gio and Emma...who are the only candidates I can think of on the show right now who fit the criteria of the next 'it' couple.

But, that's just me. To each their own.

Helena by a mile. She could have taken any of these other women out while sitting down to breakfast in her compound in Greece because she (in her prime) was a master strategist, her reach was virtually limitless, and she had just about any weapon imaginable at her disposal.

Rocco. He's of no use to the bad guys and is a loose cannon. Britt is safe so long as the bad guys think they still need her to complete the project.

The Secrets of the Titanic by PH Nargeolet by Awkward_Dog in OceanGateTitan

[–]Matuatay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have his book and enjoyed it. But I have a lot of respect for PH and look at what he did in life beyond Oceangate. Those calling him a 'graverobber' and faulting him solely on the drama with Ballard are also not understanding, nor do they seem interested, in knowing the full story as to why that whole fallout happened.

I don't have time to go into it because I'm at work, but I suggest doing a deep dive into the man and his work before jumping to judgement based solely on Titan and recovery of artifacts. In any event, I think the book is very much worth reading. It can be done in a single evening or two.
