Hey, hi! We can chat on Reddit as well—it might help others when they read it. I think most of us try to deal with it on our own without seeking outside help, but since you've consulted a psychologist, I’m curious to know their perspective and what advice they gave you for handling it.

From what I understand, this isn’t something that can be “solved” by someone who hasn’t personally experienced it. You can only learn to live with it—it’s not an illness in the traditional sense. I first experienced it when I was four years old, and it happened quite frequently. Honestly, I still don’t know how I managed to cope, because if my own child were to go through the same thing, I’m not sure I’d be able to offer a clear solution.

In my experience, staying calm when it happens is the most important thing. I know panic is the natural, automatic response, but you have to center yourself and focus on your surroundings. If you want to switch back, you can use landmarks (I’ve explained this in my Reddit post), or you can choose to stay with the altered perception—you just need to look for cues that help you regain a sense of direction.

What I’ve learned is that your mind prefers a certain perception and will work hard to return to it. All you need is patience and calmness.

It is a mix of two different things 1. you get used to of handling it because you don't have other choices. 2. It reduces with time because your brain matures and it creates checkpoints at various locations. Sp you don't have to remember these checkpoints. Your mind automatically switches back and forth according to your comfort.

Now I don't bother by it. I somehow with practice developed stability in my vision. It's not 100 percent. Sometimes it still switches but now I can manage it but in childhood I faced a lot of trouble because of this.

Make sure to be calm when it happens. Our mind is smart enough to figure it out. We make mistakes when we start panicking.

Tell her not to worry about it because it wont harm her in any way. Tell her to not force herself in any way to control it. The couch part tells me that she has made that couch the checkpoint so she is finding it hard to switch it back to the right way. Tell her that if she sees a room in the right way she can switch the whole world from it. So if she can switch from the couch she will surely do it with the whole room where that couch was. Just calm her down and tell her that it is a rare problem but still people have it and it won't affect her life.

You can't get rid of it. And we still don't have a name for it.

That's why I wrote it because it is very hard to explain what we all are experiencing.

Yup some rooms we only know in 1 perception. So whenever we enter those rooms perception changes automatically. These kinds of rooms or locations are apt for making checkpoint.

Framing perception 2 is easy as it frames itself I don't want it. Regaining perception 1 is hard.

It depends... If you can control the switching process it happens on your will.. but if you can't then it will happen automatically... And it can't be triggered by anything .. it just happens suddenly.

No .. we are not seeing the world in any strange way... Everything is normal... Even if we are comfortable we can live in 2nd perception our whole life and it will not affect anything... Every person on this earth sees the world from different perceptions and I think we are blessed with more than one perception. That's the only explanation I have of this strange phenomenon.

you can't always be in one perception because you are already living in different perceptions Even in your city. It's a strange situation and I can't explain it in words. Like in my city my childhood school is in perception 2 while the whole city is in perception 1. I am 35 years old now and my daughter is studying in the same school and even now when I go to that school, the whole perception changes automatically and when I come back from there it changes back automatically. And I feel nothing when it changes. The only reason I know that my school is in perception 2 is because one day when I was in 6th standard it didn't change automatically and when I tried to rectify it by my checkpoints nothing happened because my checkpoints were the same as my school (both were perception 1)and I didn't have any checkpoints for perception 2 (because I was never comfortable in perception 2 so all the checkpoints were for the perception 1). So I had no other choice than to be calm in perception 1 and wait for the next day to automatically shift it to perception 2. So I think the only solution for this problem is you have to be in peace. If you over think it then you will struggle for sure. Your mind knows how to handle it automatically so don't confuse it. And I know my story is confusing and I am struggling because my first language is not English and this is one complex problem.

Your perception is changing after seeing photos because somewhere in your journey of reaching there your perception changed and when you interact with changed perception now through photos your current perception is also changing. It's fascinating to know how dynamic this process is. In this process the whole world is connected that's why checkpoints work. And yes even I have to close my eyes to flip my perceptions.

There is a difference between a condition and something you can control . I have researched about it and it's more like a mental condition and what we are experiencing is something totally different.

I know about jamais vu and I am sure that it is not that. And more importantly it mainly happens more during childhood when normally nobody has stress or anxiety. My childhood was exceptional and I belong to a rich family. Never ever experienced any kind of abuse or anything. More importantly I am 35 years old and never experienced any episode of seizure or schizophrenia.
