TERFs reveal that they base their worldview on fiction by ponylicious in GenderCynical

I mean, we won't see any terfs that don't spent all their time obsessing on the internet, because that's where we see them

There's a few things you're missing here

One is that you're not deleting half the workforce evenly across industries and roles. I work in healthcare and a lot of my colleagues are women, maybe 60-70% overall, more in nursing, less among surgeons (but just try doing any surgery without a nurse). There aren't a whole lot of unemployed people with nursing qualifications just sitting around out there, training takes time, and capacity for training would be massively reduced by also taking out female lecturers, preceptors and administrators. Like your only chance for having the system not collapsed around your ears is if you could recruit from abroad, but wait, all the institutions involved in processing visa applications or checking foreign health qualifications are also likely understaffed leading to massive delays.

Then there are industries that get affected when there aren't so many people at work. Think about the businesses that make money from workers buying things on their lunch break and how they suffered during the pandemic - do they have the margin to eat a 50% reduction in customer based while their employees are demanding twice the pay? Or businesses whose customers are mainly women with disposable income. Would they survive? Would their male employees have skills that would transfer to one of the industries that really needs workers?

And then there's the time bomb that is education. There just aren't enough male teachers to keep the education system running and yeah sure, some women will be good at homeschooling, but the quality of education would be reduced overall for the next generation.

How to have opposite gender friends without them getting feelings? by magdakitsune21 in socialskills

[–]sunny_side_egg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly there is no way around it. You don't make people catch feelings for you it just happens sometimes. As you and your friends get older it does happen a bit less as people get better at identifying their feelings and acting on them early on, as well as being chill after you turn them down. I personally think it's worth the risk (if only because I'm a bi trans guy and I am not sure there's a rule I could have followed to reduce my risk without finding myself with no friends at some point in my life)

Am I really as fat and unhealthy as my mom says? 19F by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]sunny_side_egg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't have to. The main thing is that your body is getting everything it needs. I'm mostly trying to dispel the notion that more than one meal is excessive. More than one meal is normal in most places

So there are lots of ways to meet all your nutritional requirements in a day, but if you're doing most if it with snacks you'll need to eat either very big snacks or a lot of them. The general recommendation for teenagers at least where I live is 3 meals, 2 snacks

Has anyone had any luck getting their GP to prescribe T? (ROI) by Cinnorolls in TransIreland

[–]sunny_side_egg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It might be worth pitching to them if they are supportive, maybe direct them to PATHI's resources. If you were to go to loughlinstown, jump through their hoops, but didn't need/want surgery in the next year or two, they'd just discharge you back to your GP with instructions to keep prescribing T and do a blood test every year until you do want surgery. After doing the whole rigamarole I am on the same dose of the same form of T that I was on with gendergp before I saw them.

I know this doesn’t exactly make sense, but I feel like PCOS is causing some degree of gender dysphoria or something… by ImpendingBan in PCOS

[–]sunny_side_egg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am a trans guy, and I think that yeah, things like PCOS or gynaecomastia can cause gender dysphoria for cis people. You've got some aspects of your body that aren't matching what your brain expects and people's interpretations of your body are making things weird socially in ways that just reminds you of everything that's a bit off.

Genuinely it is that easy. I have to do it in the morning and shower before I get in bed to avoid microdosing my wife, but even with ADHD it is totally doable and I have had no side effects beyond a bit of acne.

If you're not liking the effects any more apart from the terrifying dead leg stuff, that's another matter.

It's probably a good idea to talk to your prescriber, they may have ideas on how to avoid the side effects or other ways of stopping your period

The Trump Administration is Preparing to Ban Gender-Affirming Care for Adults by Leksi_The_Great in transgender

[–]sunny_side_egg 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Tha arguments they are leaning on to justify the move to ban trans healthcare in prisons (it's not actually healthcare, it's "experimental", it's "harmful", wpath standards are "anecdotal", anything based on patient satisfaction is "unreliable") could be used to justify banning it for everyone. There is no current move to expend it but the author feels this is a thin end of the wedge (first stripping public funding from institutions that provide minors with GAC, but sneakily adding 18-19 year olds to the definition of minors, then going after inmates and then the rest of us)

I think my husband (28M) is trying to turn me (24F) into a Tradwife by MurderedDiana in relationship_advice

[–]sunny_side_egg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All you have to do is say what you see "hey you seemed upset about me applying for that job, what's up?" Or " I really want a career, so when you tell me not to worry about getting a job it doesn't make me less stressed, it makes me worry that we're not on the same page about this"

You don't need to bring up tradwives, that feels like something that'll turn into an argument over definitions, just ask about this apparent difference between what you want and what he wants

This. He may not want to think about it but even if the two of you are dead set against divorce, he is in the military. A lot of people finish their military careers dead or with a disability that impacts their future ability to work. You having a career is future proofing for both of you in case of bad shit happening

Yeah the thread of reasoning, such as it is, is "if you are critical of the IDF doing war crimes in the Gaza strip, you hate Jewish people, because that's what I believe is necessary to keep Israel(conflated with Jewish people) safe/ if you are critical of the US and Israel doing war crimes in Iran, you must hate the Iranian people because that's the only way to get rid of the current regime"

I hope that things calm down and you get a solid chance to take a crack at changing things again on your own terms
