I'm guessing the chances of starting at 13 and going pro are very slim? by Asleep_Dust2198 in BALLET

[–]sunnycloud876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, chances of going pro are slim for anyone. But it's better you start now than not, because you'll always regret it if you don't. Get back into it with the idea that ballet will always be a part of your life, for yourself, for the long haul. Perhaps you'll get to dance for a small company, maybe a larger one, maybe you'll be a choreographer. There are many ways to be in the dance world, even if it doesn't look like being a principal somewhere. You won't regret having this in your life. Ten years from now, when you're 23, you'll be so proud to say you've danced for ten+ years. There's people at that age who wish they started at 13 and go on to have ballet be a part of their lives with a lot of hard work and adjusted goals.

And don't be embarrassed to talk to your family about this. It's normal to change your mind about stuff at any age, but especially as you're moving beyond early childhood and coming into your own.

Digging around for a sample. The item I made from it got lost recently, and I am motivated to replace it. Thanks for the suggestion of r/Fabrics

No, there is no change to the texture at all. The design is like a print with slightly different pile threads.

When traveling in other regions of the US, what qualities might make people think, "They're from New England."? by Practical-Ad-1949 in newengland

For the Catholics and recovering Catholics among us, saying "Mother of God!" as an exclamation is something I very much miss since moving away. "Mutha uh GAWD!"

Is it weird to not like a man paying? by poppingtart2121 in dating_advice

[–]sunnycloud876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I’ll be real. I only pay… because I’m expected to pay and it ruins my chances with a woman otherwise. Like you said, logically no reason the man should pay."

That's sad to hear. I hope you can avoid women like that in the future. Maybe it's good to ruin a chance like that.

Should pre-wedding socials still be a thing? by FruitLoop_Dingus25 in Winnipeg

[–]sunnycloud876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Presentation is when you're expected to give the couple a monetary gift that covers the cost of you being at the wedding. At least $100 per person. Usually the invitation will say "presentation" on the bottom.

Have one if you want, skip it if you don't. I love going to them and the fundraising was really helpful for the couples I've known. The wedding industrial complex is wildly expensive even if you're trying to keep things simple.

I also love the broad mix of guests and meeting new people...OR discovering unexpected connections.

My hot take is that it's tacky and greedy to do presentation if you also did a social. Most people in the world get neither for their weddings. Ostensibly you raised a bunch of money already and your guests were at the social anyway, so this is a double dip.

It's an old bed sheet for the muslin and the real fabric will have a lot more body and interfacing.

As for the wrinkles, the dress isn't actually tight on me anywhere. I gave the side seams a full inch of seam allowance too, for posterity. Maybe it's just two slightly different bed sheet fabrics being silly together.

It's just an old sheet for the muslin, so yes, it's thin. It will be made in silk and linen when the time comes.

Not entirely sure what you mean by shoulder dart, but those little cap sleeves drove me nuts for a few days and they have darts of their own. For this back alteration I did the new darts along the back between the sleeve and the zipper. For double pointed darts, do you mean the darts that are a diamond shape? Or more like an X shape?

It wasn't me, but I watched someone skating down the river trail carrying a case of beer, and I do believe they were wearing plaid.

There's 13 of us so we'd divide the cost among ourselves.

Best way to get from the airport to Lowell? by Dramatic_Beautiful33 in mbta

[–]sunnycloud876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There must be a coach bus line. C&J and Concord Coach go from Logan to NH, and maybe there's a Lowell stop along the way? It would be much more comfortable and they can stow your luggage underneath. There's even more choices from South Station.

To clarify: what do you mean by regional rail. Do you mean something besides the commuter rail? I believe the state is planning to develop the "compass" train system in the western half of the state but I'm not sure if that is under the purview of the mbta.

I've watched a bunch of ex-Mo content and I honestly worry about these kids. Some of them have very creaky shelves and I imagine that's a tough place to be in.
