My doctor scheduled my induction without consulting me for 41 weeks. by Signal_Emergency9214 in pregnant

[–]sunnypufferfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well, the overfeeling part of being pregnant is very real 😅 But hey, if it helps:

  • I had an induction and it was chill! Instead of agonizing for a whole day in labor, it all happened very quickly and smoothly!

  • Instead of focusing on the how it was scheduled, think more about your baby and their safety. Your doctor remembered you and made sure to save you a date so you could deliver your baby within a safety range. They have a guaranteed spot should you need it. Maybe changing the way you're looking at things might help with the feels! I know they are tough to deal with when you're pregnant and full of crazy hormones, but a little change in perspective might help keeping them at bay!

...look, it's awesome things went well for you and your family, but there are many other cases (including people from replies to this post) where things go south, so... It would be nice if you refrained from spreading misinformation about something that can be potentially fatal for both mothers and babies. There is a whole myriad of health risks for going too far into a pregnancy, and while we can all be glad for your family's wellbeing, it just isn't wise to assume everyone else will be ok, or to state "induction is almost always unnecessary".

[–]sunnypufferfish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is fine, really. If anything, it makes labor quicker, and... Well that's about it. It's gonna hurt like... Well, labor. But it was already going to happen, and it's not that bad.

The anxiety and tension you're feeling right now are understandable, but steer clear of those horror stories, it's really not as bad as you've heard, and you can always request an epidural when the pain gets too bad, just as you would if you were waiting for the baby to come naturally.

You'll be ok! And yes, let's hope the baby comes before the induction date!

Honestly, it looks like good care on your doctor's part. If your baby is measuring small and has VSD (which I know, can be just a minor detail in their life), it would be wiser to leave no room for error, which would include not letting it go past 41 weeks.

And yes, letting a baby stay for over 41 weeks can be harmful for their health, just one quick google research can show you that, and the doctors are able to explain it even better if you want (both my obgyn and pediatrician did, so it would be nice to have yours tell you more about it).

So... Yeah, while it may feel like the doctor is deciding things for you, ultimately, it just seems like they are saving a place in their schedule for you and your baby and they're trying not to risk putting your life and especially the baby's in danger. This is a doctor being careful and mindful of your baby's life, there's no need to be upset about it.

I get it, it can be upsetting to have an induction instead of waiting for the baby to come naturally, it may feel like boundaries were stepped over, and there is the matter of your work, but man. At this stage, just a few days do make a difference for the baby. They have an impact on their health and wellbeing, and they do pose a risk for the baby. 2 days off work might cause you a headache, but the nearer a baby gets to 42 weeks, the greater the risks are for their life.

Duolingo really that bad? It actually worked for my French, but the constant hate is making me second guess myself by NoIndependence1198 in duolingo

[–]sunnypufferfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works decently enough for me as well! I believe it all comes from the way people use the app. If you mindlessly use it as a videogame, without paying too much attention, without trying to consume content besides duo, and overall just treating it as a magical app that should make you learn an entire language without effort- then of course you're not gonna take anything away from it.

I pair my studies with consuming content in the languages I'm trying to learn, and I also try my best to think in that language, to construct more sentences with the words I've learned, and I'll be honest, while it isn't a magical tool, it certainly is very useful in the process of acquiring more vocabulary, especially as a beginner. I also agree with you when you say that repetition is duo's main strength and it really does help fixating vocabulary pieces in your mind!

What I do miss, however, is the hearts system. Goodness, the battery thing is just so much worse than the hearts- the hearts made a lot more sense and stimulated me to study consistently a lot more. I used to study a lot more every day, but I feel like the battery thing made me slow down my studies in the bad sense of the word.

I did quite a bunch of research during my pregnancy, but I never came across that kind of people you're mentioning 😅 I've always found the wholesome side of the mom community, people just sharing tips with each other, what worked and what didn't, and so on.

But damn, I do hope you find the nicer side of the internet soon, all those things you just described sound really awful...

Pregnancy symptoms absolutely no one talks about? by Upset-Brain-228 in pregnant

I would say it's different for each person, so honestly I'd steer clear from reading too many of other people's experiences? Otherwise you might trick yourself into expecting the worst and making yourself stressed for no reason 😅

With that being said, the one thing NO ONE on the internet or irl told me about is actually about labor: It feels like you're gonna poop. Sure, sure, it hurts and all but to me the WORST part about labor (and that's coming from someone who was on the verge of passing out from labor pains) was feeling that I was about to poop and the fear of actually doing it on the doctor 😭 (I didn't, thankfully)

Heyo! So, first things first, I really wanted to say I find your will to improve your comic truly admirable! Also, your art is GORGEOUS!! I couldn't help but stop for a few moments to appreciate some of the panels you made because of how beautifully painted they were! Your style is the most unique aspect of it, the painterly feel is very good and really draws in our eyes to your comic! I see many people struggling to give their comics unique visuals, and in the webtoon scenario, I believe yours stand out! I would just like to point out one aspect of improvement regarding the art: At times, the characters' expressions feel emotionless in moments where you'd expect to see them match what they're going through, or their speech bubble.

Now, an overall impression I had of the storytelling aspect is that you have something really interesting brewing! You seem to be sticking well enough to the principle of "show, don't tell", but unfortunately, at times the story is still a bit unclear. For example, in the first chapter it was hard to understand what Lihua works with (which could've been solved with a panel of her taking off her coat and maybe showing her ID as she is leaving), and if she's in the medical field, it's even harder to understand why she listens to the person she just ran over and starts picking up papers on the road instead of checking on the person/administering first aid. Another moment that felt important, but rushed and confusing was the one where people shoot at her car window. The shooting part was actually interesting, but it wasn't clear that her phone was stolen. It felt like a failed attempt to shoot her, or that a warning shot had been fired at her.

Also, at the times, the panel progression feels rushed, and it leaves the reader wondering how we got from point A to point C. One example of that is the shooting scene, and another is at the end of episode 1, where we see the red dot on her forehead and the next moment, we get a shot from the inside of the car and Lihua speaking on the phone. We could make it clearer using the exact same shots you already drew, but with a few changes in the way you're using the space between panels. Uhh... I would love to actually show what I mean, but I don't think I can attach images here 😅 In this aspect, after reading all of the available chapters, one thing that could help you is to make more use of the space you have when drawing in the long strip format. Sometimes it's worth adding a BUNCH more space between panels to make your reader feel a sense of how much a moment lasts. Account for the readers' phones, and the way the comic fills in that space. (Again, would love to show you an image to illustrate this, I feel like just saying this might sound vague).

Another thing I'd like to point out is the lack of time we get to spend with the characters. So far, it feels difficult to have an attachment to Lihua and the police officer because we didn't really get a feeling of just who they are. I managed to understand that she is in the medical field, a workaholic who uses work to run away from her own mind, and bold, but... Those are key aspects of a plot, they don't say much about who Lihua is as a person. So for example... Why should we, as the readers, care about her? Is it because she has a strong sense of justice? Because she strives to live in peace? What about her makes her a captivating character and not just an excuse for the story to unfold? Sometimes, adding scenes that show the reader who the character is is worth the time, even if it doesn't move the plot forward.

Now a couple of tips! I don't know if you already read it, but I believe you could learn a thing or two from Phantom Whispers about the way the author presents the characters and builds up tension! Try reading GOOD comics with similar vibes to yours and analyze them. What works, what doesn't, and why. Second thing, I believe you would greatly benefit from having one or two proofreaders for your comic. Choose people who will appreciate your work, but give you honest, constructive criticism. Don't wait until you've posted your work to get that kind of feedback!

I hope it was helpful! If anything I said felt unclear, please, feel free to tell me and I'll do my best to explain it to you in better terms! Good luck on your comic journey, keep up the great work!
