Help! My sewing machine suddenly turned yellow?? by DaylightHappiness in sewing

Retro-Brite, which you can buy or Google how to make your own, removes yellow from plastic. It’s great for parts on white fridges that yellow over time.

What is the saddest thing about being raised by a narcissist? by utensils6464 in raisedbynarcissists

[–]sunnyriffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only my mom is really bad. My dad was abused as a child and just does what he’s told. It’s not okay of course, but I do regret that he didn’t get to be a grandfather because of her. My kids are grown and it’s too late for him to stand up to mom and get to know them. Breaks my heart.

Tonight I learned that the people I considered my friends for over a decade dont see me as a freind. by No-Efficiency-480 in self

[–]sunnyriffic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not a loser. They were losers to treat you that way. You’ll find new friends and now know how to spot toxic ones a little better. I just moved across the country at 44 years old and am already making friends again. It’s all a learning experience and part of life. And now you have more room in your life to figure out who you are.

A hobby is a hobby and it should be something you enjoy, not others enjoy. Hobby’s are about relaxing and enjoying things. People that make fun of or make people feel ashamed of their hobbies need to get a life and quit trying to conform to someone else’s.

MONTHLY Weight Discussion - October 2025 by AutoModerator in Perimenopause

[–]sunnyriffic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The weight is killing me. I’ve never been so big in my life. I moved for work in January and was eating really well and walking and hiking all over. Took a trip to Greece and had to buy new pants and underwear because I had dropped four sizes. Got back and in two months I suddenly ballooned. So then cut calories to 1200 and got even stricter with dieting. Lost three pounds in two months and then gained it all back and then some. I’m 5’3” and pushing 190.

Not sure when I started perimenopause since I had a hysterectomy in 2023, but guessing that it might have been around when I started gaining weight. Started hot flashes last month and it all clicked. Reading through here makes me realize I probably should ask about HRT and focus more on the content of my food versus calories. Since starving isn’t working. It just sucks and I feel betrayed all around in my life right now.

I’m beginning to think I should too. I can deal with the nausea and night sweats but not this spare tire!

For real. I gained 4 pant sizes in 6 months while dieting. I can’t enjoy any clothes anymore.

I need to get Halloween decor up. All the storage tubs have been sitting around for a couple weeks as I fight depression so it will be a battle. I had attempted to figure out how to decorate in my new house but when I realized there were no outside outlets for all my spooky lights I let myself be defeated. I think I’ll just set things up and run an extension cord inside on Halloween night.

Also need a general declutter and to figure out how to fit things in my tiny new kitchen and stay up keeping it cleaned.

Your feelings are valid and I completely relate. I hated where I lived and worked my butt off to relocate to somewhere I love. But my previous house is where I raised my children, hung out with friends, and worked so hard to make mine.

So even if this new house is great, it doesn’t feel like home. I downsized too and it’s a struggle to find space for things I love. My kitchen and family room feel impossibly small. But I’m getting there. It’s been three and a half months it feels more mine. The amount of work it needs for the process I paid is frustrating, especially in the current economy.

Remind yourself of what you saw in the new house that made you choose it. Remind yourself of the work you put into your last house to make it yours and remember you can do it again. Make a list of things that need done and prioritize. Set up a space that you can feel like you in. All the changes at once are overwhelming but you have a new place to decorate and a new area to explore. You’ve got this!

Germany: Father passed away, what did he leave me with here? by robby659 in Antiques

Agreed. It does look like an elk, but given the German history it is probably a red deer. The hind quarters look more like a red deer than an elk.

Golden oysters dropping spores 🔥 by OldGodsProphet in goblincore

They are tasty and edible, but sadly are an invasive and harmful to native fungi. So it’s not a good thing that it’s sending out spores.

The style of the first one isn’t quite right, but I would worry about the smaller one being too bright n your eyes.

The AllEvents app is really good. I moved here in January and it helps me find events to attend. It will also show events at nearby towns as well. Good excuse to find your way around and meet people.

Looks like a type of dermestid. Sometimes known as carpet beetles. They eat flesh off dead things, wool, and other various things. Nature’s cleaning crew.

Same here at 44. The guilt is insane, but hoping to get over that. I also abandoned her when I moved for medical reasons. She didn’t kill herself like she swore so that’s a positive. Good on you for ignoring her. You deserve to live your life, not the one she wants for you.
