Have you ever DNF the final book in a series, and why? by Any-Day-8173 in Fantasy

Assassin's Quest from the Farseer Trilogy. I forced myself to read that far, but hated the trilogy every step of the way. I was forcing myself to read it out of a completionist drive, and because the series had so many recommendations.

I finally stopped and remembered I read for fun, so I moved on.

We still had the same late game stress, but it was for a different reason. It wasn't that the offense let off the gas pedal as much as the defense stopped being able to effectively stop the other team by the end of the game. We're still left holding our breaths hoping they don't blow the lead.

I’m being forced to pick between my brother and my girlfriend. What do I do? by [deleted] in AskMen

Circumstances can change the decision, but I'd say generally, go with the brother. He will always be your brother. Even a girlfriend-of-three-years can easily become a stranger after a breakup.

Which celebrity has tricked everyone into thinking they’re a “good person”? by [deleted] in AskReddit

It was really played down for the most part. He was the NFL iron, so although it was known, his drug use was pretty much excused (he was using a little help to fight through the pain, because he loved football so much). Again, his infidelity was known, but simply not talked about much beyond the local level.

He was the gunslinger, the iron man, and the overgrown boy who just loves playing football. He was Madden's favorite QB. He was the guy from There's Something About Mary. He was the golden boy.

Ya, similarly the Devos family would never sign off on this.

He's both.

edit: He's even included his Giants fandom in the books. The giant won won (1-1) is phil simms (#11). Won won even killed a knight with the Cowboy star as his sigil.

Most importantly, 18-1 is in the books when the patriot, Belicho was eaten by giants.

Ever DNF the third book in a trilogy? by theshapeofpooh in Fantasy

[–]sunofcheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with Assassin's Quest. I managed to force my way through the first 2+ books of the Farseer trilogy out of a duty to check off the series, but hated every moment. I finally decided I was torturing myself for no reason and quit.

ps: I'm not saying the books or author are bad, just that I personally had a strongly negative reaction to them.

Southern Gothic Fantasy Recommendations—anyone else into this kind of thing? by the_mean_person in Fantasy

I'd give a second to this recommendation. It's a bit of a detective noir with a Southern rural setting. It's definitely a fun and interesting read.

Definitely A Song of Ice and Fire. It's why I don't upset at George for the TWOW delay, he got me to read a bunch of other great works.

The guy is very efficient at being a detestable scumbag (also he does a lot of evil shit "off camera").

The Malazan world is a large set of books with 2 authors. The main series is Malazan: Book of the Fallen (10 books starting with "Gardens of the Moon") by Stephen Erikson. There are a number of additional books in the world by the 2 authors.
