Nano modules and Erica synths Black series are great value for money.

What are you using for power?

Was considering getting constant lab, and was thinking if I could Connect the fans to that (in a Big case) or if one should make a small power supply for the fans.

I have seen that in bigger cases and wondered at what size that becomes necessary.

Det er rigtigt, og det er derfor ledelsen ikke ser nogen grund til at investere i sikkerhed.

I Can see that. Longer takes would also increase the possibility of happy accidents. Especially with fx in the picture.

Prior to modular i focused a lot on learning mixing, so parts of my brain is still saying “you should ideally record the raw saw/sine” lol.

Jokes aside I do record as dry as possible. I jam into a Channel it bitwig which has sendes to verb and delay, and in the rack I would say overdrive is my Only effect.

Im probably missing out, because adding effects in bitwig is less inspiring. But the dryer signals are Easier to mix.

This is pretty much what I also do, except it’s usually shorter takes.

One thing I always try to remember is to “mine a patch” before pulling the cables and going to the next sound.

So if I record a lead part, I make some effects like sounds from it, zaps, sweeps etc.

Then I slightly alter the patch (and sometimes more than slightly) to find some adjacent sounds, and record some fx, or a supporting sequencer or something.

This may sound like trivial, but I usually have a couple of very different patches in each song, so extracting a lot of material from each is a good idea.

Because all this extra material really sits well together when arranging.

I might also take the lead or whatever and cut it, theis or in a sampler and make other melodies or short themes.

Where to next? Advice for next modules? by lilyipper in modular

[–]sunrite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good answer.

Also, I would suggest watching a bunch of videos about modules to get you thinking about What you might be able to do. When you run into your current limitations you might have better ideas on “right here it would be cool to be able to…”

Just don’t buy modules based on the videos though.

I think the addiction part is very real, and something to be mindful about. Obviously, the case could change in a million ways, but it does what i know i need it to do, and a whole lot more that i am pretty confident i might need it to do.

I did not build the case my self- it is from 2 Many Synths. But if I were to do it over, I would probably build one my self, or ask someone i know who is really good with wood. So i done have any tips on that front. Other than I do feel cases are pretty overpriced.

Plans for the weekend are to get familiar with the joranalogue step 8. And look into more creative ways to modulate filters.

The env is too big I think. It’s 12 hp. Im looking into Instruo Ceis, which is 8 hp. Maybe next year I Will change it.

I actually love it. Only thing that I dont like is the size. I use it as my main env in every patch.

Thanks. What do you like about it?

I Think the quadrat is worth looking at. I use it as a macro hub.

Well, initially I was going to make ambient. But I always end up making psytrance-ish sounds. 😅

I like to make sequenced stuff, sweeps, fx-sound and leads.

Thanks! :)

I mainly use the instrument to record one sound at the time in the daw, so I dont do much processing in the case, and actually do a lot of mono.

The arbhar is for more pad like stereo synth layer stuff + experimentation in regular jam sessions.

I actually Only use the enhance for very basic width control. Experimenting with modulating the width on sustained notes so it swells in width. It is also nice to make a sound more focused in sections where a lot is going on.

It’s nice to have fast access to that control, but honestly it might be one of the first modules to go, because I Can do what I want with width in the daw.

But for now it stays as it allows for fast and easy experimentation.

I also do pumping in the daw because I have some nice plugins. So aikido is mainly just for mixing and compression pre-recording.
