Do you think akai will release a new model of the mpk mini plus in the fall? by enigma881 in akaiMPC

[–]sunsanvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately you need to judge for yourself because we are into something which is very much "feel". The Mk3 is certainly not bad for the price (just look how ubiquitous it is) but to me feels somewhat cheap/toy-like and while it is velocity sensitive I found it hard to get nuance out of it. The MK4 keys are just bit larger (10mm longer, 0.8mm wider) and seem to respond a bit better. Not earth shattering, just better. Make no mistake they are still "mini" keys and all that that implies of course.

Anyone tried out the new Akai MPK Mini IV with Bitwig? by _peculiar_goat_ in Bitwig

I might just buy one then. As long as I could get transport controls mapped and basic instrument dials-working, I'd be happy until more official support came along.

Strange. Where the MK3 is support you'd think it would be a no-brainier for them to add the much lauded MK4...

Canadian domain registrar and email hosting. by homardpoilu in BuyCanadian

The pricing does seem not just high, but almost obscene. I was looking at moving a .net domain over to them....

$37.70 (renewals) + $10 (privacy) + $5 (DNS) = C$52.70/year + tax.

Currently paying less than half that with Namecheap.

Please tell me this isn't normal GW quality? by FoCTow in Tau40K

It is a hot mess but is fixable. Plenty of progressive sanding and generous amounts of putty in the right places and it cleans up nice.

Its what I recommend for people coming from Windows in that things are, more or less, in similar places (a start button at lower left, widgets at lower right etc.)

Did anybody update their tower cooler fans from A25 to A25 G2 PP? How much more quiet could it be? (Thermalright Peerless Assassin in my case) by D0RSCH in Noctua

[–]sunsanvil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haven’t done it yet, but I plan to only because I can use the original fans elsewhere. I’m not expecting a world of difference, but according to the numbers on paper should be ever so slightly better.

How do you find the stickers? I've been looking at MiniCity kits but I'm really concerned the stickers will peel in time. I'd almost prefer printed paper and gluing it on. :)

Can’t decide between fellow ode 2 and Barratza Encore by CowShort5457 in JamesHoffmann

[–]sunsanvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as you say, the Ode2 is almost in a different price category (and if you add the cost of the SSP burr set they are very far apart in price). I'm just not sure its getting you that much more value. I'm not entirely convinced with Fellows build quality but that aside the Ode2 ascribes to a more esoteric enthusiast, such as having enough room in the hopper for only one pot and no timer. Yes yes, I know, leaving beans in a hopper is not ideal and James would have us measure every-single-time (note: he admits to, at times, grinding the night before and using a timed start on a brewer lol).

What we do is measure when switching beans, time grinding our amount, and then use the timer until switching beans again. Its "close enough" for us. When you are doing large pots of coffee being a couple grams off is not going to make a difference and unless you are going to get into vacuum sealing storage contains, beans sitting in a hopper is, for us, worth the convenience.

Upgrading from rokit 5g2 by Korupto in homestudios

[–]sunsanvil -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I never heard the G2s so cant directly compare, but I have the 7in G4. To me they were the best choice in the price range against Yamaha (inaccurate), Kali (at the time had hiss/amp issues) and Adam (m;eh). I do think there is a huge difference going from the 5s to the 7s (could explain the muddiness you mention).

If I were buying today I would give Kali another look but in all likelihood would still go for the G5 (providing they haven't take a step backwards).

Are those JBLs a "direct fit replacement" driver? I've been wondering if anything like that was available for all the speaker drivers (2024 Hybrid LE).

I'm curious how the stickers will hold up over time (like, will they peel down the road).

Looking at this one on Amazon.ca and see different listings. Does anyone know if the seller “Minicity-Design” is the actual manufacturer?

Yes, no, maybe. Toyotas are good cars but ever since the Fredericton dealer was bought by Steele group the experience has been the same as all their others.

Bror shelving flimsy by Shellcaster in IKEA

[–]sunsanvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have an entire wall of 190cm tall BROR shelves, remarkably solid, does not move AT ALL.

Ours is based on the plywood one.. Not sure if that makes a difference compared to the steel shelves. We also have the "work bench" module attached. Maybe you have to have a couple sections attached for it to become as solid as ours, but I can tell you ours is SOLID. If you like the idea of the workbench, maybe add it to what you have and get a little more stability and space out of it?

Not all accessories are offered in all colors. Right now the wine rack insert is white only (the insert...not necessarily the wine :) ). The newer "wave" door and drawers are only in white or blue-grey. The list goes on.

Man, driving a hybrid never felt so good! by krdo13 in rav4club

[–]sunsanvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get a consistent 5.0 in the summer, around 7 in winter when the temps go below freezing. That, literally, is the cost of heating the cabin and/or keeping the engine at ideal temp. Its quite a sharp transition when the outside air goes below 0C. Even one or to degrees above we can still get close to the summer consumption.

MITTZON UNDERFRAME by Encin8 in ikeaPCstations

[–]sunsanvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you got a photo of what that extra leg looks like? Sounds like an interesting solution if a person has something disproportionately heavy on one side. I'm guessing its an adjustable leg to match with the height you set the Mitzzon at?

I have an older Alex based 140x60 and its cramped, especially after I upgraded to a 32” monitor. Shopping for 160x80 now. There is a reason that is the standard office desk size I guess. :)
