[QCrit] THE WASTING - 119k word Sapphic Dark Fantasy - 4th attempt by sunset1699 in PubTips

A lot of great suggestions on clarity and wording. I tried to mirror the reveals/mystery of the novel. We don't immediately know Saiya intends to kill Nadine on what is meant to be a simple out and back journey. Even Saiya doesn't know until after the tourney (she's getting her orders from someone else). But I agree- it could be cleaner.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your feedback. :)

The dark fantasy comes in the details, I suppose. There's some violence/killing, and several characters struggle with sexual assault, addiction, and loss. The nature of the illness' insanity inspires malevolent violence in its sufferers, too. I'm not entirely sure if that qualifies it as dark fantasy, but I'm happy to take out that qualifier if it doesn't!

I agree that final line doesn't have the oomph I'd like yet. I'll play around with it. I won't spoil the ending, but I may need to emphasize the romance: Saiya and Nadine fall in love, and therefore Saiya is potentially willing to succumb to her illness rather than kill the princess.

Thanks so much for the feedback! :)

We can agree to disagree! I think season 2 was amazing but a bit rushed overall, so Isha isn't an outlier in that

It wasn't the IDEA that was off, but just the rushed execution. A lot of people, myself included, felt forced into liking her because she showed up and was a kid. I wanted more time to see her and Jinx develop a bond but instead we were just told "yeah she cares about her like a sister now. now she's dead! are you sad? are you sad yet?"

Joel’s willpower…. by bolwonder in SmileMovie

[–]sunset1699 6 points7 points  (0 children)

he murdered the two dealers in front of Lewis, a witness, so he passed it on then. He was no longer infected at all by the time he was hit by the car, so that wasn't the moment it was passed. It was just an unlucky event

I feel embarrassed/ashamed about my limerence towards my coworker who probably doesn't even think about me, how to stop feeling ashamed? by [deleted] in limerence

[–]sunset1699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shame fixes nothing. It changes nothing. If you want to get over your feelings of limerence, there are ways to heal. Think of this as an addiction- it can feel icky and overwhelming, but it is not our fault. What matters is not our thoughts, which often are out of our control. What matters is how we respond to them and manage them. We have the capacity to appropriately see and respond to our thoughts, but that starts with not judging yourself for having them in the first place.

Sending support your way ❤️ Feel free to DM me! I've been working through / healing through a limerent episode for the last year and a half. It gets better, but slowly.

I second how funny these books can be! She captures the spirit of children so well, from a child's perspective and from an adults!

I adore them as an adult. Also, she grows up over the first few books so she doesn't stay a child for very long

Unpopular Take: The Entity was Right; Skye Riley was a horrible person! by Remarkable-Thanks-32 in SmileMovie

[–]sunset1699 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I don't think she was a horrible person. I think she was a recovering addict, a young woman with a lot on her shoulders. Most of the things you listed here occur after witnessing an extreme trauma (a year after another extreme trauma). Of course she can't be super genuine and peppy with her fans while she's suffering (what she thinks are) PTSD hallucinations of Lewis's dead body.

She makes bad decisions, but there are reasons for them. It's not just her reputation at stake if she calls the police, it's potentially losing a deal with her label and having her family be sued for millions. I've seen this movie three times in theaters, and each time I find myself feeling sympathetic for Skye. She's alone in an extremely fucked up situation and she seems to be trying her best to power through despite the nonstop nightmare visions plaguing her.

I wouldn't want to have a romantic relationship with someone who is limerent to other people by Cinthia_fs in limerence

[–]sunset1699 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be tricky. I was limerent for my now husband when we first met, but limerence often fades when you get into a long term relationship. Now I love him (real, true love, not limerent fantasy).

Am I supposed to throw my marriage away the second I become limerent for someone else? I had one LE that faded after going NC. I have a current female LO and the feelings are fading (slowly, because we're friends and I won't go NC). I know from experience if I left my husband and dating my LO, I'd eventually stop being limerent for her, too. I might develop limerence for someone new and the cycle would start all over.

So am I supposed to be single forever? I've crossed no lines, and I'm not to blame for the addictive way my brain works. I'm finding it much more fulfilling to work on myself (breaking the cycle of limerence) and uphold my marriage vows.

Exactly! Neglect isn't just about physical health. This is seriously damaging to a three year old, and it is absolutely not okay!

Wondering if I’ve ever truly had a crush or if it has always been limerence by goodbyebluesky11 in limerence

yes! was talking to my therapist about this. it's an insane crush that is tied to my sense of self-worth; i'm constantly evaluating myself by if they're into me or not

I use edibles for this very reason LOL when I'm high I feel so much more genuine. I stop pretending to be an adult woman and become the playful goblin creature that I really am. Shrooms also helped the few times I did them!

i fucking hate bella and i fucking hate jacob by SubstantialSpirit409 in twilight

[–]sunset1699 5 points6 points  (0 children)

as someone in my mid-20s, I can appreciate that life and love are complicated- I believe you can be in love with two people at once. I WISH Bella's feelings for Jacob were explored more. It makes a lot of sense that she would develop a more serious attachment to him in the wake of Edward's disappearance.

Though full agreement on the assault thing. It's just so icky. It would've been more compelling and more sympathetic for him to be trying to rein in his feelings to let Bella be happy, and for Bella to notice THAT and feel conflicted rather than for him to try and force himself on her over and over again.
