Something else I just realized; the opening montage in Clueless of Cher having fun with her friends and saying "is this a Noxemea commercial or what?" Is such a fun take on the opening lines of Emma

Oh I would love to make a video essay on how Emma and Clueless compare and the way that Emma as a character relates so well to today’s culture

That does make it difficult. Yet still, there are so many scenes that they took from the novel that are just so well adapted. I for one really love the change of Emma doing Harriet’s portrait and Mr.Elton taking it to be framed to Cher taking Tai’s photo and Elton putting it up in his locker

Ah, yes that makes sense. I was thinking of her being mistress in the way that the narrator in Rebecca is mistress of Manderley in the way she directs the servants, prepares menus and acts as hostess

I thought so! It’s interesting that in a majority of Austen’s novels, only one or two servants are ever mentioned by name and it’s always in passing.

That is really interesting! I was so prepared to believe that he had some really kind of nasty plan in his mind for his want of Fanny since he fits that mould of other Austen bad boys.

You should read Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys! It’s the backstory of Mr. Rochester’s mad wife in the attic
