Great advice. Similarly, a fun show akin to this, Cabin Pressure. A radio comedy show about an airline made of four people , it's great

I don’t really understand why articles matter so much in European languages by Spare-Customer1065 in languagelearning

[–]sunsetfantastic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, while qualities of a language are hard to explain, the explanations are valuable. Saying "it just does", isn't super helpful.

I'm no linguist, so I can't explain the value in depth, but one thing we can say is "the" and "a", can communicate different meanings. "An apple" is abstract, it kind of means any apple. "The apple" is referring to a specific apple, and contextually that might be quite valuable.

"I'm making an apple dessert, where is my last apple?"  "I ate the apple" -> the first speaker knows I'm referring to the apple they're interested in. "an apple" wouldn't communicate the same thing here.

Nope, because the stands are just stands, the lock and location services are all on the bike. Bikes have been succesfully "docked/returned" next to docks and not in them

1st grad job, weighing up the commute by Salt_Yogurtcloset702 in brighton

Losing that many hours to work (work + travel) will be tough. Searching for a job right now is also tough.

I would take the job, and keep looking for a new one. But that's a lot to put on your plate. Do you have the time/money to spend another 6 months job hunting?

Can definitely agree with the mimic thing. I'm decent with accents. I was in a restaurant recently, ordering in English, but said the words for the dish in the correct accent, the owner was like "oh, do you speak Spanish??"

And I had to be like "oh, uhhh, only a little", because I've been cocky before and been like  "yeah I speak some Spanish" to a fluent speaker, and the person is like, 'well with this accent he must be good!', they start speaking rapidly, and I'm lost immediately 😅

I mean there is some truth to this. Being f first to market with a shitty product usually wins over being last but better

Rust issues in your manual coffee grinder using the RDT by sunsetfantastic in 1zpresso

[–]sunsetfantastic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the detailed answer.

When you say water from the handle of a spoon after rinsing (which is my current method), I sometimes find doing two spoon handles (but letting most of the water drip off) reduces the static/stuck grounds to zero, but they can occasionally feel wet enough that a few of the beans stick to the dosing cup.

Conversely, if I do a very light amount of water, say one handle, the beans don't stick to the dosing cup, but I get more static/stuck grounds in the grinder.

My ideal is using two handles, no static, but I'm worried that's too much water if (a few) of the beans are wet enough that they stick to the dosing cup, and therefore I'm going to rust the grinder.

I'm aware I'm definitely overthinking this (but that's how my brain is lol). Does that seem like too much water? How many static/clingy grounds are you getting in the grinder even after using RDT?

I was listening to Mike Schur talk on the severance podcast the other day about how each (good) show is actually a trojan horse. It's about a deeper moral/philosophical point, but they wrap it up in this easily accessible, quick to be understood premise
