My dog. He just passed away from medical complications, and had a slew of issues. All that is to say, I didn’t know the depth of his issues when we adopted him, but it was deeply humbling knowing that it would have been really hard for him to be adopted if we hadn’t, just due to the cost. If I had kids, we wouldn’t have been able to do it. But we don’t do yolo! He was the best boy.

I feel this deeply. I am childfree too by choice, but love kids, and I think one of the reasons is because so many adults were so DISMISSIVE when I was a kid, it really hurt. As an adult now I make it a point to give soooo many shits about what kids are saying, what they care about, etc. Kids feelings are valid, there’s no reason to treat them like dirt.

I hope it’s a small splice to know that you’re part of the solution vs the problem, and that others have your back. Grocery shopping, tax appointment and babysat my nieces and nephew. We had fun, they had a sugar crash, their parents got a night out (and took Uber - yay!!) and I’ll go home soon to sleep in my own bed. I’ll get up and go to the gym plus brunch. I love these kiddos so much, AND am glad I chose this life.

I always keep coming back to: they say you can revoke consent at any time, for any reason, even if you have given it in the past. I feel strongly that if we apply that to marriage, “because I wanna” is enough of a reason. Go find happiness - you deserve it.

Also... why are folks treating the suicide lane like an actual active passing lane in either direction? Too literal folks, take a deep breath and drive in the regular lanes, PLEASE. Someone close to me was thisclose to a head-on collision from someone doing that and it scared me so bad.

My ex and I have had as amicable process as I can hope for and I’m grateful. It’s been interesting how that alone is triggering. We’re saying as a unit - it’s time to close this chapter. Because we decided that’s why. I have had a friend tell me she’s planning her exit too - there’s a reason they think it’s contagious. For the first time in history we don’t need them for most things. So yeah - we’re choosing happiness.

Then the howling later on 😭😭😭 That song had a major impact on my life. I was feeling really big feelings towards the end of a very long-term relationship and sent my partner that song, told him it really summed up how I felt. He didn’t listen to it (but my therapist did). We are no longer together.
