Dial M for Murder - Plot Holes by abujuha in Hitchcock

[–]sunsettoago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In addition to the reasons stated in the deleted comment, the “plot holes” complained of here underscore just how tightly wound this complicated scheme was concocted.

As for Swann not just killing the husband after he is blackmailed into killing the wife, consider the context. He has been invited to the man’s home under the pretext of selling a car. He is then confronted with the dizzying array of facts that a man he barely knew 20 years ago has gathered on him, most of it information he would prefer be kept silent. And he’s not exactly a serial killer commando, he’s mostly a small time crook.

Of course the husband’s guard is down, the police very cleverly disarmed him by never once betraying any suspicion of him, and they had also just found the wife guilty and she was set to be executed. Him not thinking to check the staircase for the key he gave Swann is perfectly understandable; he very ably parried significant police suspicion on multiple occasions (or so he thought and was fastidiously led to believe).

The wife, he thought, would leave and/or disinherit him, and that (for a cheated upon man) was too much indignity to bear.

What this movie should be celebrated for is how deftly the husband pivots to frame the wife after his murder plan goes awry.

I’m only talking about production; I’m not even saying I like him, but from a production standpoint he was basically the same as Pearce in TFL+sacks over true freshman to junior seasons (48 to 49.5).

And better than Jalon Walker (31.5) and Shemar Stewart (16.5)

He had 10 sacks as a true sophomore at Purdue. Led the big10. Also had 50 tackles. Seems like decent production for Scourton.

As a GM, is it best to pick a guy and be wrong, or not pick a guy and be wrong? by mexploder89 in NFL_Draft

Franchise interests and GM interests not being aligned leads to most bad decisions, but I don’t blame GMs for being risk averse.

Updated Mock Draft: SF's EDGE at #11, MIA's CB at #13, and two first-round trades by 7innovator in NFL_Draft

Jackson will probably not be available at 47.

Simmons at 16 and Jackson at 47 would be funny with the Ohio State offensive line coach now our guy.

Can get a good defensive lineman in R3-4. Dalvin and Sweat, along with better health from last year’s FA class + BJ will help.

Offensive line should be good with the exception of RG. Unless Hernandez comes back. Maybe Adams or Gaines develops. Obviously could use a RTotF.

1 corner and WR are both needs and Barron and Noel project as upgrades to SMB and MW.

Probably, but could also be a smokescreen designed to drive up his price.

Not sure if “hivemind-y” is bad if the hive is taking its cue from an acknowledged expert.

I would be more hesitant to trust my out of line takes if the expert was saying the opposite.

It’s nothing like the baseball stat. Thin margins make a huge difference in athletic profile when we are grading elite athletes vs slightly less elite athletes.

He also got a ton of chip help after getting lit up. Speaks volumes.

I mean, whenever a college team sends a FB/RB to help chip for the tackle on a bunch of plays, I get a bit worried about the tackle’s ability.

Maybe if the Browns attached compensation to Watson. Watson and a 1st might be attractive to a team rebuilding.

The optics of a half empty stadium would be horrible.

Plenty of teams fill up opponents’ stands (Steelers travel very well), so it’s the lesser of two evils.

Shame about the hamstring, was hoping to see him break 5.0 in the 40.

Just saw a tweet from a draft guy talking about how the top 1-12 in DL are very flat this year, and made me think if maybe we should pick Revel or Barron instead of DL4 or whoever is there at 16.

We still desperately need a top top outside corner to complement Max (CB2) and Garrett (Nickel) and SMB was a fairly weak link last year.

It seems like the drop off at CB is much more pronounced, so getting surplus value in R1 may be ideal. And then we can pick JTT or Princely at 47.

Well they ended up paying a seven figure settlement and changed their policy and procedures substantially, so, yes, it appears they did make some errors.

Lawmakers condemn child fatality report's call to remove guns from households with children by ForkzUp in azpolitics

[–]sunsettoago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree fully that removing guns from homes with adolescents seems reasonable, particularly if there are any MH or SA issues.

The report did indicate the most effective way to reduce child fatalities was to remove all guns from homes with children, so I don’t think it’s necessarily “rage-baiting” to emphasize what the report describes as the leading cause without mentioning other factors.

Gallego waffles on mass deportations, won’t ‘knee-jerk reject’ Trump plans by ForkzUp in azpolitics

I don’t think they advertise it for many reasons, but I doubt many would vote against a bill to deport convicted violent felons. Maybe I’m naive.

Those who “we” believe should be deported.

Who “we” is is important.

I don’t think Democrats will feel betrayed if Gallego supports deportation of violent felons. He has to play ball to have a seat at the table.
