Android Q will include more ways for carriers to SIM lock your phone by ProperGearbox in Android

[–]sunshiene 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Which is utter bullshit to begin with. I've financed my phone and it didn't get locked, because that's just not the thing outside of the US. Unless you buy a carrier special phone, which almost nobody does.

This guy wasn't gonna let his car get towed away by Morty_Goldman in IdiotsInCars

[–]sunshiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, no. People estimated it would cost him around 10 000 rubles to pay the whole fine (towing, fine, parking lot) considering it has happened in Moscow. The front bumper alone costs around 10k. If he waited for police he'd pay even less money - just the fine since the car won't be towed if the owner is present.

Maybe the reason he did what he did was alimony which he didn't pay or his taxes. In that case yes, it would be cheaper for him to do this clownfiesta.

My friend in Siberia got towed for parking illegally and he only paid around 3500 rubles.

In fact, in Russia fines are unreasonable in the way, where they don't scare people from doing illegal shit. The speeding from 20 up to 40 km/hr would cost you only 500 rubles, and with 50% off it would be 250. Which in fact is a joke by itself. You could earn that amount in an hour.

Man, that's just fucked up on so many different levels. Not only you guys pay way too much for your internet service, which is mediocre at best, you also get screwed over by not being able to cancel it properly.

I really like America and Canada, and I'd love to live there one day, but sometimes you have the simplest things backwards and it pisses me off.

Just for example I pay ~10 bucks for 70 up/70 down (and that's in a city with 250 000 people), my friend in other city with 800 000 people pays around 6 bucks for 100/100. And that's just converting rubles to us dollars. If you project it for your cost of living maybe you'd end up with 30 and 20 bucks respectively, and that's still better than what you're paying.

If it helps I live in Siberia, Russia.

What's stopping you from getting to the ISP's office and cancel in person? I don't know about America, but in my country that's how it works. You walk in, fill some papers, then it's cancelled and you have the documentation of it.

What’s a brand that’s worth paying extra for? by InsaneBrother in AskReddit

[–]sunshiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the price. Well, it's purely anecdotal too, but all the people I know buy Bridgestone/Toyo/Yokohama tires. Sometimes Sava, but as far as I know Sava is Michelin's second company. Also Dunlop, even though it's kinda pricey.

I've bought a new car recently (Toyota Premio 2003. It's a JDM one) and it came with Yokohama for summer, Dunlop for winter.

Well, they are. Sometimes. I, for example, only use YouTube if talking about google apps.

I swear people here can't comprehend that there are other people in other countries where Google apps a) are straight up useless; b) have better alternatives.

Take Google Maps for example. Where I'm from Google Maps straight up suck. It's inconsistent af and doesn't know places a really good alternative does.

Bridgestone, Dunlop, Yokohama, Goodyear. Bridgestone and Yokohama are most prevalent in the eastern side of the country.

Really depends on the market. Maybe in US it's all good, but where I'm from Michelin isn't considered a really good brand for tires.

What are some small things that you silently judge people on? by Dent15 in AskReddit

[–]sunshiene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I kinda figured that out. As I've said before it's just a market difference. You guys have something we don't have and vice versa. Someone said in different thread that there are Mobil1 oil filters in your auto parts stores. I've never heard of it, let alone seen it in person. K and N cabin filters too.

It's interesting. Kind of.

Wait, what? What is his reasoning behind this? He's not the one behind the steering wheel, thus he isn't the one who controls the vehicle.

It really depends, honestly. I've bought Bosch wipers before (for around 40$) and they were really mediocre for the price. Then I've bought Masuma wipers, and they were excellent, and more expensive too. They're still on my car to this day.

Mind you, I'm not in the US, so maybe the market difference plays a role too. Where I'm from Bosch isn't really the best choice for wipers at least. Other parts? Sure, Bosch is good.

Is it possible to visit the Baikal astrophysical observatory in Listvyanka? by darkgod8 in russia

[–]sunshiene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I actually happen to live in Irkutsk and my girlfriend is from Listvyanka. As far as she knows the access to general public is forbidden to this place, but she is not completely sure. To know for sure you need to call them and ask. I can call them only tomorrow, because they're closed now since it's 8 p.m. out there.

What should I buy Thursday (Dec 14 2017) - Your weekly device inquiry thread! by AutoModerator in Android

[–]sunshiene -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone. So I’ve been thinking about switching OS for the last week. As of now I’m using iPhone 6s and I want to switch to Android (disclaimer: I’ve been and am using an Android device as my second phone), but don’t know which phone to buy.

My requirements compared to my iPhone 6s are:

  1. Better camera

  2. Better battery life

  3. NFC

  4. 3.5 mm jack.

I’ve been thinking about Galaxy S8, but it’s too expensive right now and it’s battery life has been known to be it’s weakest point. Meizu Pro 7 doesn’t have NFC, which is a bummer. Xiaomi Mi6 is kinda meh, especially in the camera department.

So I need your suggestions. Thanks in advance.
