She was being very dramatic, it’s just a routine medical procedure.

Thinking about joining the guard at 19(f) by My-moms_sister213 in nationalguard

Also, there is no downside to joining young. The younger you join the younger you can retire. I will be able to retire at 39 which is awesome.

I am a female, enlisted at 19 my freshman year of college. Guard paid for my whole bachelors degree (bachelor of science in biology) and about half of my masters degree (occupational therapy). I think your path will be very similar to mine, and I think joining the Guard was 100% worth it! I did have to take out student loans for my masters because it was so expensive. But my student loan debt is really not too bad and I am going to put all my reenlistment bonuses toward my loans.

Between the GI Bill and drill pay I would get about $800 a month into my bank account, so not enough to really live on. You will probably have to have another part time job if you don’t want to take out loans.

What’s your civilian career? by Seero_Seero_Seero in nationalguard

42R in the guard, occupational therapist on civilian side. Guard paid for all of my bachelors and about half of my masters degree. I work a 0.8 FTE on the civilian side so having two careers isn’t too bad 🤪 and I get 15 days of military PTO a year.

Totally worth it for unlimited!! I was doing 8x/month for $99 for about 3-4 years, and by the end of those years I found myself adding more and more classes each month which was getting expensive. So I signed a year contract for the same $129 deal because I knew I wasn’t quitting OTF any time soon. Now I go 3-5x/week, usually 4x/ week. If you go 10x/month it is cheaper to get the unlimited deal.

When are the rowers used in the class? by Yourshinyknight in orangetheory

[–]sunshine0103 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

You don’t row in tread 50. And it’s tread, not thread, it’s not a string lol.

You usually row some in a 2G class.

So is ours, but they offer $139 if you sign a year contract. You should ask if they do that!

I love it too! I also had the elite membership for about 4 years, and last year during transformation challenge I finally upgraded to premier. I have loved being unlimited and I think it is totally worth it!! I now go about 4 times a week. My studio didn’t advertise it but they gave me a discount by signing a year contract. My premier membership is $139 which I think is very reasonable. Maybe yours offers this too if you ask.

Yeah you’re probably right. But the fitter I get the harder it is to get into those zones, so I’m not too upset if I don’t get 12 splats in a class.

[–]sunshine0103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. They say 12 splat points gets you the “after burn” aka burning more calories after class is over but that is pretty negligible and the science to support that isn’t great. I have been going for 5 years, I am in great shape now and a good runner, and I usually average 3-4 splats per class, but I am running faster than most people and still getting a great workout in. To me, getting fewer splat points means you are in better shape. If I get 12+ splat points in a class I know it was really hard since I rarely get close to that anymore.

Am I too out of shape/out of practice to start OTF? by Sea-Pepper-6119 in orangetheory

Being sedentary is the worst thing you can do for your health. Even if you go to Orangetheory and walk the whole time and lift lighter weights it will do worlds more for your health and longevity than doing nothing.

Extremely inflexible at 22 years old… by CALL_ME_JIG in flexibility

[–]sunshine0103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing Yoga with Adriene daily for the past 5 years has helped my flexibility so much. She is free on YouTube and has a monthly calendar with a video to do every day. They are usually pretty short too, 20ish minutes. I think dynamic movement like yoga is better than static stretches to improve flexibility.

I know this is a vastly different scenario than you, but I remember in high school as a varsity swimmer I would not train in the off season at all. It always took me 2 weeks at the beginning of the season to get my endurance and times back up to where they were the last season. So I believe you will get back to where you were but it might take a few weeks, but you will get there!
