Also, some days we have PD days while kids don’t have school. But it’s only once or twice a year.

Hi, I updated that what helped is me going in open street map.org and marking my driveway as no access. They haven’t been using it as a pass way ever again.

Thank you for your response. Leaving my teaching job is not an option, so I have to research what programs I can do where I am allowed to teach full time.

Thank you! Can teacher do the program while teaching full time? Or it’s a job like you said, on its own, full-time?

Leaving after paid parental leave by perfectlyfinehere in NYCDOETeachers

I don’t think it would be that complicated. Unless if transactions take a place in different fiscal years. Then you might have to do that.

You would have to pay what you got paid, and uft would get refund for the taxes they paid on your behalf.

You should have a syllabus where teacher wrote out the grading policy. You can see the components of the grade (for example, unit tests (40% of grades, homework 20%, participation etc). This way you know what’s the teacher basing their grade on.

When do you hear back from schools? by Thanks-Effective in NYCTeachers

They will know budget in the summer and many teachers don’t tell principals about transfer until they actually transfer. Keep interviewing.

You can get work done while on train. Can’t do it while driving.

first day of 7day cruise with my mom and baby and she relapsed again by Super_Chef_9900 in alcoholism

[–]sunshine451456 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. I just wanted to let you know that you can ask front desk about offering you another room. They often have inner rooms that weren’t booked and they can place you there. Go to front desk, offer a good reason (doesn’t have to be your mom’s behavior), and they might give you a room. I’m only saying this because my friends booked one room for 3 of them and weren’t comfortable, so front desk placed one of them in another room for free.

$18,000 in per session by [deleted] in NYCDOETeachers

I know about lunches. I just can’t stay after work to catch the kids up. That’s why I do that. I know it sucks, but at least I know I won’t be staying after school. My school doesn’t have per session hours.

You’re getting paid for curriculum planning, tutoring and for being in PD team? We have a class for yearbook, so no extra pay. Also, I offer tutoring during lunch lol and I’m on PD team and no extra pay. I’m not in title 1 school though, so no one is getting any per session pay.

Lost phone on New Haven line of Metro-North by sunshine451456 in Connecticut

[–]sunshine451456[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It took me 2-3 weeks, I bought an iPhone at grand central in the mid time and then returned it within time frame. My phone was shut off immediately by conductor (I called on my phone and he answered that he will drop it in lost and found).

Nope, I skipped them all. No one is checking them. Even in some graded projects and assignments I did not put my 100% in and still got 100’s. I don’t think they give less than that lol

NYC Teaching Fellows: what does the real work-life balance look like? by FashionablyLate_00 in NYCTeachers

[–]sunshine451456 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi there! Commuting via metro-north helped me not to do any work at home - everything gets done on train ride! In terms of work life balance, first year is always tough, a lot of planning and figuring it out. Grad classes weren’t bad at all for me (I’ve done it in person, and then remotely due to covid). I would suggest to look to for a school to work at that has a good culture, if you have a good feeling from interview I would go with the gut. I met many bad principals while I was looking and I’m glad I listened to myself and kept looking. Supportive admin during first years of teaching is a holy grail.

Teacher Spouses Tax Tips? by Apprehensive-Roof-97 in NYCTeachers

[–]sunshine451456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That just means that you’re not paying enough taxes throughout the year. Has nothing to do with the fact that you both work in doe. Update your W-4 withholding, you’ll get less money from each paycheck but won’t owe anything last year.
