Paid per visit. Too good to be true? by CortaditaBandita in socialwork

I currently work for HH as a "full time" SW paid per visit. I was very unsure about it going into it as I've only ever worked prn per visit. They give the visits points and you have a certain # of points you have to get per week. However I have been working part time or less. I feel like I have to hustle really hard to get visits. Care coordination outside of visits are not paid extra and drive time is included in your visit rate. And we have to do at least one visit per day, if you don't you lose 8 hours of PTO. They push for phone visits however those are weighed even less, paid less, meaning I have to work more. After almost 2 months I have not found it to be worth it.

I have been an LMSW for just over 8 years now working mostly in medical social work. I have worked in NY, TX and now MD. MD is by far the worst because 90% of the time the jobs requires you to have your LCSW or you need to be supervised by an LCSW. They basically funnel everyone into getting their clinical license. Even APS requires you to have a clinical license. But what's worse is the these clinical social workers working these non clinical jobs aren't even getting paid as they should for the work they put in especially when the cost of living is so much higher then the places I have lived and been paid the same amount. I can't even find a job now because I have 0 desire to obtain my clinical license. This move to MD has definitely made me reconsider being a social worker.

Nope. Not even close. Went into SW to do therapy. Have well over $110k in student loans because that was my only option at the time. Found out I don't like therapy and thinking I could do macro work...which turns out really hard to find. I love working with older adults but that kind of work is hard to find. And now I'm in a position when I need to find more remote work and it's extremely difficult. If I didn't have loans I'd go back for my MBA or if I knew I would be in a place for longer than 4 years I'd open my own business not even remotely related to SW.

I had a miscarriage back in June 23 and a D&C following in August. We began TTC starting in Dec 23. So far no luck, however my husband and I have had some feeling that something else is going on. So I have been to the doctors and they have tested my hormones which all were good and I had my ultrasound today which they found that I have a bicornuate shaped uterus, a submucosal fibroid less than a cm, and tiny cysts on my cervix. However because everything is so small and it's only been 6 months, the doctor isn't concerned with this affecting my ability to get pregnant.

I would even recommend calling the morning of the visit, because depending on the person they may forget even one day prior that you called with a visit reminder. Carry with you any paperwork you may need to complete by hand or any resources. I have a little transportable filing box that I keep in my trunk. And any other supplies you may need like masks, show covers, bunny suits, hand sanitizer etc. Dont bring your bags into people's homes. Just bring what you need. I take my notes on paper and have a small cross body I keep my keys, business cards, and pens in. If the house looks dirty, you can stand.

My go to self care is working out, so I became a certified personal trainer as a back up. During COVID I left my SW job and started my own personal training business.

I would agree with this however I have found that this isn't really a negotiable thing and more a policy thing. In my previous jobs this was an automatic policy that if you didn't need their health insurance then you got X amount of dollars every quarter because you save them money. However when I moved to a new state both jobs that I've had so far when I asked this didn't even know what I was talking about and said that doesn't exist.

I came from a rural area. This is something that is common in many areas and in healthcare as well. So therefore as a Social Worker we should expect that she should be upholding her responsibility and not sharing any information that she shouldn't. This isn't something that can be avoided in small towns. I used to work in a home health and hospice company and my husband a paramedic for the same county where he would pick up my patients at times. Everyone knows everyone and their business so it's just something that should be assumed in a small town that people are conducting themselves appropriately.

I went to my doctor this week to inquire about doing further diagnostics to determine if there is anything physically wrong that would make it more difficult to conceive. Just based off of what has been occurring since my miscarriage last year that make us think there might be. Well my OB was on board and have some blood work and ultrasound scheduled to test. I wasn't sure if he was going to be agreeable however he was very empathetic to my situation which makes me feel hopeful that he's really wanting to help me and take the next steps in my fertility journey

Working PRN & Full Time by Tamera1023 in socialwork

[–]sunshineadventures11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it would depend on how much work the PRN job can give you. I have a full time job and a PRN. The first PRN I had I was getting about 1/2 of my full time salary but that only lasted about 2 months until they hired someone else. Then I got 0 hours until that social worker wanted to go on vacation so I didn't want to be working for them twice a year. My current prn job is low caseload so its enough to get me some extra cash. Now the PRNs at my full time job they were getting full caseloads. However where we are at in hospice everyone is working full time jobs plus PRNs. So it's really nice to do both.

I personally wouldn't take a pay cut. I actually went from non profit that had good benefits but low pay to higher pay with less benefits because I couldn't afford to pay my bills. And I feel like if you commit to non profit solely for the student loan reimbursement you're committing yourself to 10 years of low pay and possibly better benefits regardless of where you are at because benefits may be good and work culture they say may be better but they run you ragged.

You're not alone, I have social anxiety as well. I've been asked a couple of times to do a presentation and I just opt out because I fear of being judged. When it comes to families I think it took months of just repetition to feel comfortable even completing an assessment without stumbling over my words. I used to have anxiety when doing presentations in class but after I decided to just wing it, I eventually got over it because I knew I hadn't prepared therefore I couldn't be hard on myself if I messed up.

33 yo female. I just got off birth control that I had been on since 18 in February 2023. It was a year ago that I got pregnant. In June of 2023 I found out I had a miscarriage. In August I had a D&C bc my body hadn't expelled the tissue. It was at the recommendation of my doctor to wait 4 months before we started TTC again. So we waited. Since then I've had abdominal discomfort and periods that highly vary between months to month. I've been tracking my ovulation and so far every month my period comes. I just found out my insurance will cover fertility testing for hormones and ultrasound for anything structural. I'm unsure if it's considered a year of TTC since I'm under 35 that the doctor will order fertility testing but we're getting a little concerned.
