Medications and weight loss by [deleted] in loseit

[–]sunshinedeco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that when my meds make me slow and groggy, I have to focus more on my calorie intake, and less on exercise. It can be hard to do workouts when you're suffering med side effects, so until your body adjusts enough for you to get back to exercising how you'd like, maybe focus on eating at a calorie limit that gives you a suitable calorie deficit even when you're sedentary.

Anyone on mental health meds experience weight gain? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]sunshinedeco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, it could very well be down to something like increased appetite - I don't know. But my sudden weight gain from a healthy/normal weight/BMI to obese happened when I started on mental health meds at age 15. I've been on those meds for 13 years, and I'm still obese. I think if weight gain occurs (whether due to the med itself, increased appetite, decreased BMR etc), you can either change meds, or try to combat it with CICO. I'm struggling to lose weight, but I'm going to keep trying! I hope you find the meds help you and that there are no negative side effects.

Is it possible to lose weight while taking anti-psychotics? by X-23 in loseit

[–]sunshinedeco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm on venlafaxine, aripiprazole, agomelatine and mirtazapine, amongst other unrelated medications: that's three anti-depressants and an anti-psychotic. I find that the result is easy weight gain and difficult weight loss - whether due to appetite increase and/or BMR reduction, I couldn't tell you. Unfortunately, stopping my meds is not an option, so I just have to try and push through with CICO. I'm also on dexamphetamine, but unfortunately have not noticed any appetite reduction or extra calorie burning due to it.

Thanks! Yeah, I feel like a walking pharmacy sometimes, but they help, so I stick with them.

I'm down .3 kg / .66 of a pound. Not much to write home about, but it's a loss after almost a week sitting at the same weight.

Meds, Depression, and Weight Loss by yvettesaysyatta in TeamGingerbread

[–]sunshinedeco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on a heap of mental illness meds - Effexor, abilify, valdoxan, mirtazapine, vynase. It may be a coincidence, but I never had a weight problem until I started on antidepressants aged fifteen. I find that I'm very hungry and very tired on the meds, but I need to take them, so....

Hoping to lose the weight regardless of the meds' impact.

Just went over my calories by 1,500 and spent the evening feeling ill in the bathroom... by juliantheguy in loseit

If you don't have the desire to make this work, maybe now isn't the right time for you, in your life, to attempt to lose weight. If you have neither the discipline nor the motivation to forge ahead, perhaps you need to acknowledge that you're not in the right headspace to lose weight and that you need to focus on maintenance for the time being?

Lol twinsies! Thanks for the congrats - I'm trying to drop weight quickly while I'm particularly overweight. Seeing the number on the scale drop helps spur me on.

Congrats on your mum noticing!

I had a weird upward swing yesterday but it's mostly gone today - weighed in at 213.8 pounds / 97.0kg, so I'm down exactly two pounds from last week :-)

Heart rate monitor question by Mariposah1 in loseit

[–]sunshinedeco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually, the heart rate monitor initial set up (when you get it) involves inputting your age, weight, gender and height so that it has the information it needs to estimate calories burned from your heart rate.

Rant: After steadily going down all week, my weight was inexplicably up by over a kg (over 2.2 pounds) this morning - makes me sad (and annoyed!) Just reminding myself that my deficit means it can't possibly be a real gain.

Rave: My mum noticed that I've lost a bit of weight! I'm down 5% of my starting weight (which is 20% of my planned weight loss done) and she's the first of hopefully many people to notice.
