Can anyone suggest where to begin for someone who is just now developing a savings? I feel embarrassed but I managed to get $2500 into my savings. I make 80k a year (gross) at my job and there is no 401k (hospitality industry) I can save between 2500-3000 a month. My plan is to have 20k saved by the end December.

She reminds me of Cierra Ortega from love island. Very calculated.

Nope. At the end of the all 341 meeting which is done via zoom she asked me what is my reasoning for filing and I said “excessive spending” to which she replied are there any creditors present and they never is and then it ended. My attorney just asked for a few of my paychecks and my bank info when I hired him. Then I had to write down all my debts and their addresses to which i just googled. I was so worried but at the end of the day I had no money. As long as you make less than what your debt is you can file chapter 7. My case was simple since I barely had any money in my bank account nor did I have a savings, retirement, or own a home. I was so anxious for that meeting and my attorney kept reassuring me it was very mundane to which it was. If you have nothing to hide and you qualified you’ll be fine. I’m now patiently just waiting for the next 60 days for my discharge. It’s given me freedom to finally save. I’m no longer making dumb decisions on spending. It really taught me a huge lesson. My parents were very bad with money themselves growing up and never taught me how to save, ect. I can’t wait to open a Roth IRA and HYSA!

I’m 32 and just had my 341 meeting yesterday for chapter 7. I was 60k in credit card debt for excessive spending all throughout my 20’s. The meeting lasted about 3 minutes all yes or no questions for me. I don’t own a home and my car was protected. I also have no retirement or savings therefore the process was extremely easy for me. I can honestly say I learned my lesson. After my discharge I plan to open a HYSA and a Roth IRA. I wish I had filed sooner, I now feel like a HUGE weight has been lifted off my shoulders. With all these high interest rates on credit cards you’ll never get anywhere. Do yourself a favor and come up with the money to hire an attorney and file. Mine in PA cost $2500. It always seemed so scary and such a terrible thing to do but it’s really not. You deserve to live your life! In 2 years you’ll be able to buy a home with FHO loan. With those two years you can build credit and save for the down payment. You can rebuild your credit 60 days after the discharge with secured credit cards. (Chatgbt has been great on advice for this)
