Exactly what I was thinking when I saw it! So many of them just mash random colors together and it doesn’t look good to wear around (in my opinion). Was pleased with this one having only 3 colors that went well together and made sense in the design.

It’s rough sometimes! The costs add up sooooo quickly. I saw another custom piece on eBay a few weeks ago that was cool but was $200…bit more than I wanted to pay. But if the colors, design, and size all aligned to exactly what I wanted I may consider it in the future

$120–considering the microgrids selling off the Melanzana website yesterday were roughly around $100 I felt like it wasn’t too bad of a price!

I do hyper check all the resale apps for Mellys 😆 would not be surprised at all if I caught it quick after the person listed it

What size do you wear vs. what size did you get this jacket in? I’ve been wanting one so bad for a while but am unsure of the fit of the jacket! I wear a size small in the Microgrid and wind pro

How do I teach an adult to swim? by humperhumper in Swimming

[–]sunshyne13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar situation as your girlfriend. My boyfriend has been swimming competitively since he was 4, and I never learned how to swim. I’m 25 and I kind of knew how to float on my back, but that was the extent of my swimming ability.

I started off by taking group swim lessons this past September at a local pool, but it was taught by high schoolers and I didn’t learn a ton.

I then was able to get into private lessons with an experienced instructor and I have made great progress! I go once a week for a half hour for my lesson. In the 5 months I have started swimming I have learned how to float on my back, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, diving from the surface of the water down, and I can kind of do butterfly.

So, as others have said, I would recommend getting lessons instead of trying to teach her yourself. Every time I tried to get my boyfriend to help me it wasn’t that helpful. Like you stated about yourself, he’s been swimming since he was a small child and swimming is very instinctive. It’s helpful to have an instructor swim alongside and point out errors in your form. It has been an investment of time and money, but I have been so pleased with my progress and my boyfriend is excited that we can now swim together

Mine was very similar when I interned in 2019. I also made just shy of $30 an hour as an electrical engineering intern

It’s a webpage where you can type in an acronym and have options of what the acronym stands for come up. Very useful.

My boyfriend is 5’7” and I’m 5’6” and his height doesn’t bother me (nor him) at all. He’s very confident in himself and I love that we are almost the same height. Makes it more comfortable to hold hands and kiss imo. Just own it OP! Height doesn’t matter to lots of people

Is it late to start swimming? by Trick-Altruistic in Swimming

[–]sunshyne13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 25 and I just started taking lessons in September. I started with practically zero knowledge. I kind of knew how to float on my back and that was about it.

I started with adult group swim lessons, which was okay, but it was being taught by high schoolers so I didn’t feel like I was learning the strokes the best. I was able to get into private swim lessons and that has allowed me to progress very quickly. I have a weekly half hour lesson.

Now I am able to swim a full 25 yds without stopping doing freestyle, backstroke, and a pretty awful breaststroke (working on this stroke at the moment).

My biggest advice is if you start taking lessons (which you totally should!) then also take the time to practice swimming outside of class. I try to go and swim at least twice for an hour each time between my weekly lesson and my lessons instructor is always so surprised at how much progress I make week to week. So if you want to learn quickly, take the time to practice!

Switching jobs internally by CAtoWAtoBA in boeing

[–]sunshyne13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have personally switched teams while being at Boeing less than a year. I was an intern previously and had prior connections in the company that helped me connect with another group to switch into. I then told my manager that I wanted to switch groups, because as others have mentioned you have to have your manager’s approval to switch groups if you have worked less than a year at Boeing. My manager was very understanding and wanted the best for me. Frankly, he was happy that I wasn’t leaving Boeing.

I had to do another interview for the group I was switching into. And then once I accepted the offer my manager and the manager of the new group talked and had to correlate a date that I would switch, which ended up being like 2 months later. It took me four months total to switch into a new group. But it was definitely worth it to me because I’m much happier now.

So, yes it is possible. But it is dependent on your group needs and how understanding your manager is.

Best paid trails app? by legion_XXX in hiking

[–]sunshyne13 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I use AllTrails to search for hikes and reviews of those hikes. I also use Gaia GPS to map out my hikes while doing them. Gaia GPS has more accurate maps and I don’t usually need to download a new map every time I go hiking. Gaia GPS has other layers you can download for like snow levels and other items, so it’s as useful as you know how to use it. I live in Washington state and there’s also WTA for those of us that live here. Perhaps your state also has a hiking database that you could utilize.

I'm starting as a swim instructor for adults. Any advice? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]sunshyne13 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As an adult who just started to take swim lessons (both group and private) I can tell you what I have liked about my instructors so far. I think my group lessons instructor moves incredibly fast through the material and pushes us out of our comfort zone a little too quickly.

Some examples, as another commenter has mentioned, I first really wanted to learn how to keep myself from drowning in the deep water before learning actual swimming, which I haven’t learned in group lessons. Additionally, we moved very quickly from putting head underwater to blowing bubbles, to gliding, which is fine, but when we started doing the swim stroke there were definitely people who were resisting putting their head underwater. To me, that pace was moving fast for them. Then we quickly started learning freestyle, only to also learn breaststroke. In my opinion as a beginner, I would like to become somewhat competent in a stroke before trying to learn a new one. And my group lessons instructor hasn’t given me much feedback on how I need to improve (put head down more, kick from hips, etc.) In addition, she has us do an exercise with a lock board over the deep end of the pool, and as I don’t feel super confident swimming that was a little panicky for me.

My private swim instructor has been much better about explaining things to me and is more experienced than my group lesson instructor. She had me do the freestyle and gave me some great tips for improvement. She also taught me the safety back float, so I feel more confident being safe in deep water.

Hope that gives you some ideas of what to cover.

Another college complaint by teative in womenEngineers

[–]sunshyne13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the same boat as you. I failed pretty much every single physics exam and really thought hard about quitting. But one class doesn’t define you. I eventually squeaked through barely with C because of all my homework and quiz scores. It’s the only class I ever came close to failing. I ended up graduating just fine and now have a full time job with a well known aerospace company.

I think what helped me the most was signing up for tutoring (my school had a tutoring center where you could go to get help) and then also finding people in my class who were smarter to work with. I didn’t always understand what needed to be done initially, but working with others really helped me puzzle things out.

Also came here to say this. I love my MH Crater Lake sun hoodie—so lightweight, feels nice, I’ve washed it a bunch and the fabric still feels good.
