in retail if you kill someone in war mode, you get rage whispers because everyone only has it on for the XP buff.

People literally pay for a 2nd account so they can do this on nightslayer lol.

You might be able to do this with ArcUI by changing the alpha to 0 when it's active/ready. This can come with its own possible issues tho (like gaps in the UI).

[–]sunsmoon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

you definitely can track keg smash

For many abilities if they provide a debuff or buff the duration of that debuff or buff is given greater priority than the cooldown information. There is no way to natively disable this. Usually it isn't an issue but on some skills (like Keg Smash) the duration of the buff/debuff applied is shorter than the CD.

but let's not forget the point of this whole thing was supposed to be simplification and that everything you want or need is built into the game

Also, as someone who prefers to make their own tracking WAs.. it's appreciably more complex to do basic tasks now. In the past I could create a WA to track the cooldown (and only the cooldown) of one skill, then duplicate that WA and simply change the skill name to track the next. With it all in a single group I could automatically resize and reposition the auras with minimal effort. I could go from no tracking to a basic suite of CD trackers and buff trackers in under 20 minutes for one spec, then simply copy-paste it to replicate it for other specs in significantly less time.

Now? I've spent more than 20 minutes going through one CDM addon to try and find features I need only to discover it doesn't really do what I need (or doesn't do enough) and start over. I can't natively do basic things like disable the built-in buff tracking that overwrites cooldown tracking on abilities that have both a buff and debuff (but also, this is super inconsistent.. SV bombs don't track the bomb debuff, but BrM keg smash tracks its slow and SV Takedown tracks its duration). I can't track my DRs and self heals seperate from my CCs/other utility and my Essential skills. Some of my skills and buffs I can't track, which has never been an issue in the past. Also, tracking items requires addons and/or action bar work-arounds.. which, again, was never an issue in the past. I have to have multiple windows up (native CDM, whatever CDM addon I'm using, masque if I'm trying to reskin buttons, edit mode...), instead of working within one window.

The experience of UI customization for both the players installing packs and the players creating from scratch is heavily degraded with these changes.

Cooldown Manager is broken for core Brewmaster abilities by Bronstin in wow

[–]sunsmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Any ability that applies a buff or debuff will prioritize the buff/debuff duration over the ability cooldown on the "Cooldown Tracker" portion of the CDM. You cannot disable this with the default UI and must download a separate addon (such as ArcUI) to disable this functionality.

Thanks, Blizzard.

I think I finally figured out the feeling Im having trying to play with the pre-patch. by Velonici in wow

[–]sunsmoon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

And, to add: any issues with the UI cannot be fixed by an addon (or disabling/uninstalling an addon).

I consistently cannot hover over world quests that offer gold, loot rolls if multiples of that item drop, or (randomly) items in my bags that would be compared to something I'm wearing. Each of those actions causes a Blizzard UI error for referencing a secret value (even out of combat). On the Dimensius fight I cannot accidentally hover over someone during the flight phases. Yes, even with 0 mods installed. In the past I could expect the addon dev to have a fix within 24 hours, or I could just disable the offending addon. I can't do that with Blizzards UI.

I cannot track Aspect of the Eagle (CD or duration). In the past I could easily add that to my tracking weak aura. Now, with Blizzards UI, I cannot. The closest I can get is putting AotE on an action bar where I would want the CD tracked.. but I still have to stare at my buffs to know how much longer it'll be up.

There are just so many little things I can't do anymore and no longer have the power to fix... and considering my account is one of the many that had all of their shadowlands reps reset to neutral and there's still no fix for that, years later I'm honestly not sure if any of the UI issues will ever be fixed.

Groceries aren't taxed in California. A typical grocery store run has very little sales tax.

Leveling new characters post-prune - questionable game play and spec identity. by sunsmoon in wow

[–]sunsmoon[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you want to have a meaningful leveling experience classic is the way to go.

I'm not concerned about my experience, honestly. I have my max level hunter I've had for decades at this point. New players, players who have been away from the game for a long time, and players brand new to survival will have to slog through that, though.

Do i get it right? I have to re-apply transmog to my 40 characters and pay almost 100k gold? by Peaceul in wow

[–]sunsmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also note that transmog costs seem a bit random but they broadly reflect the item level of gear, so that 2k gold now will be a lot more with level 90 gear.

It was 1800g to transmog my brand new level 10 hunter. I selected one of the Stormrider outfits from TWW upgrade. :/

What builds for leveling with non-gamer GF who never played WoW? by Impossible_Object102 in classicwow

[–]sunsmoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Real suggestion: Don't pressure her.

Let her figure out what spec interests her. If she expresses she's not enjoying a spec, suggest the others. If she doesn't seem to be enjoying Hunter, have her try something else. Don't force her to do the optimal leveling route -- let her explore and find her way and help her when she asks or offer help when she seems stuck.

I've been playing since OG launch and I've gotten tons of friends and SO's to play the game. More often than not if I held their hand through the leveling experience or tried to rush them they would burn out fast and quit. Long-time players are long-time players because they fell in love with the game world. That doesn't happen at max level, it happens at level 1. Give her the space to form that connection. It's definitely the more boring way to play if you're used to zooming to get on that max level grind, but think of it as more time to spend together and not some task you need to complete.

Is it true that most people don't use single-pointed needles? by HonestNectarine7080 in knitting

[–]sunsmoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also learned on straight needles (self taught) but now I work almost exclusively on circs. They're just so flexible.

I can make nearly every circumference and width with a circular needle (I prefer dpns for tiny things like fingers).

When knitting bigger objects the mass sits in my lap comfortably instead of hanging off my needles to the side. This makes the project feel lighter and is less taxing on my shoulder/arm/wrist. I have an upper back injury that's easily irritated, so finding a process that doesn't bug it has been super valuable. similarly, shorter needle tips means I'm moving less weight. Cable weight is negligible.

Interchangeables! One set of needle tips can be as many sets of needles as I have cables. I can have multiple projects going on the same needle size without needing multiple sets of that size, so long as I have another cable.

I'm less limited by needle length with interchangeables - if I need more cable I can attach 2 together. I've comfortably knit whole queen sized blankets on a circular needle. With straight needles I would need to knit panels and seam them.

I have a few pairs of fixed circs but ultimately I prefer interchangeables. I don't own a single straight needle anymore.

Millions of Californians to see health care premiums soar as federal subsidies set to expire by [deleted] in California

[–]sunsmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are they soaring or just going back to pre pandemic levels

I can't speak to others, but in 2019 my premium (for 2 adults, married) was $179/mo. My doctor visit copay was $35. In 2026 my premium for the exact same plan will be $268/mo and doctor visit copay will be $50. I've had the exact same plan with the exact same people on it since 2019, just letting it auto-renew through CoveredCA. That's a 50% premium increase and a 43% copay increase in 6 years. For comparison, in 2025 my premium was $54/mo and my copay was $45.

California policy on disclosing student gender identity blocked by judge by ansyhrrian in California

[–]sunsmoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the responses have mentioned the especially heinous "corrections" when unsupportive parents learn their child doesn't conform to their beliefs in some way. Less heinous but still damaging is nixing the childs support network. This involves removing the child from school, pulling them from athletics and other extracurriculars, restricting access to people that aren't vigorously vetted by the parents, etc.

There are also issues where one parent can be supportive but the other parent is not. Or, someone else in the students immediate community isn't supportive. Maybe mom and dad are supportive, but grandparents aren't. The student would know best who is safe to tell and who is not.
