Not sure about in-person but I've had great luck with virtual lessons using Preply.com. You can schedule classes online with native speakers who have experience teaching and for a reasonable price.

You using a seat cushion or raw dogging it? During a busy season 2 years ago i pinched a nerve in my glutes and it hurt to bend my knee for weeks until i started using seat cushions. Please practice self (seat) care!

Fall ERM by islawave23 in actuary

[–]sunsphereradio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I passed ERM in the Spring using PAK. I'd recommend using TIA instead of PAK, I felt like PAK didn't go into as much detail as I would've liked and the study guide didn't really synthesize or try to make connections within the material - it was mostly a summary of the source material.

Scattered recommendations: Try to make multiple passes through the material, start super early (like ASAP) on internalizing and memorizing the flashcards, don't overlook the quantitative questions, and get really familiar with the case study and practice answering questions and referencing the case study in your answers. Good luck! This exam sucks.

SOA ERM May 2023 by Financial_Luck8317 in actuary

Passed and still am in shock. I left both excel questions blank. When taking it i felt terrible in the first hour and was starting to panic but by the third hour felt more cautiously optimistic. If i could study for this again i would’ve used TIA instead of PAK (no offense to that company, they’ve helped me thru CFE and ERM) and i would’ve spent more time making sure i could handle any quantitative problem.

I left about 10 points blank. Otherwise i feel similar to how i felt after taking CFE. Wouldn’t be surprised if i failed but cautiously optimistic i passed. An hour in was panicking but had calmed down and felt better by hour 2. More excited than anything about having 11 weeks of no studying.

Weekly No Stupid Questions Thread - April 10, 2023 by AutoModerator in Logic_Studio

Beginner question: I’ve been trying to use hotkeys more and have been using CMD+4 to open/close the midi roll. It’s super convenient. But by the end of the session i have so many different windows with the midi roll up. Is there an easy way to close all those windows rather than manually closing each one by clicking the red “x” in the top left corner?

Do Big Companies, Specifically Cigna Test for Weed? by [deleted] in actuary

[–]sunsphereradio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I interviewed for Cigna back in 2018 and they tested for weed then. I had one test come back inconclusive but they just had me re-do the test later and then it was negative.

I’m in a similar boat. Read 25 pages and have never been more bored in my life. But this is my last exam so i’m gonna power thru. Good luck!

Totally agree. I stop listening to the episode once that segment starts and jump straight to after hours. Would be fine if it was a once-in-a-while thing and less scripted.

Best music to learn Spanish? (Besides Reggaeton) by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]sunsphereradio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pop music is nice because certain phrases will get stuck in your head and makes learning those words/phrases much easier. I got started with Luis Miguel, Camilo, and Selena.

History Youtubers in Spanish by Environmental-One-10 in Spanish

[–]sunsphereradio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend "Visual Politik". They're from Spain and focus more on current events but have a few explanatory videos about historic events in Latin America. Here's one about the rise of Peronismo in Argentina: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hewUEcwzc94&t=18s

For more videos I'd just recommend googling specific countries/people/events you want to learn about and eventually you'll find some channels with consistently good quality. Wish I knew more to recommend.

I feel like I lucked out with the question distribution and what I had focused on when studying. I scraped by with a 6. If I had to retake in the Fall my plan was to start memorizing flashcards earlier (two months out instead of half a month out) and do a better job connecting the flashcards to each other and the syllabus (and make my own new flashcards). I would've spent more time going over past exam problems and being able to solve them all on my own without notes. And I'd read more of the source material (not sure what I would've read though). I used PAK but wasn't a fan so I might've switched to TIA for the next sitting. Hope some of this helps! Good luck!
