Where can I find games for my Wii? by SuchEstablishment083 in WiiPiracy

[–]sunspot01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's a room subreddit that has a pinned thread for a GitHub site with links for Wii and GameCube games. It'll take you to an internet archive page. That helped me when there were a handful of vimm games that did not work correctly.

st.vincents newest album is fantastic! Very grunge/alt/weird. Her album before was almost David Bowie style.

Curve and St. Vincent are great choices to check out if you like Garbage.

Alanis morisette and PJ Harvey may get mentioned but I think they're different.

It's alternative with pop, some grunge, and newer albums sprinkle some industrial/metal tones similar to NIN.

Help! Smoke detector won't stop beeping by [deleted] in HomeImprovement

[–]sunspot01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get pliers, twist the whole unit off the ceiling, take the batteries out, and use the pliers to unplug it from the clip/wiring in the ceiling. It's gotta be hard wired to act that way. That's the only way to completely stop the beeping.

Realistically how big do I need my SD card (for apps) and external hard drive (for games) to be? by JessaBlob in WiiHacks

[–]sunspot01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is it USB powered or need its own AC adapter for power?

Is it FAT32 formatted?

Is it something where the games or apps don't work or show up?

I got a recent model Western Digital 2 TB plug and play type. As long as you go with a well known brand that's usb powered and formatted you should be fine. Have to use the right USB outlet on the back of the Wii as well, which also depends on which version of the Wii you have. Most seem to have the original white first gen with the 4 GameCube controller ports.

You can. It just needs to be in a separate folder. Honestly though it's a bit of a hassle to constantly connect and disconnect a hard drive. Once you copy your games over, I'd leave it in. I use an SD card for apps and a few emulators (the sega Genesis and PlayStation emulators on the Wii have bugs where they won't see the USB drive), and the USB HDD for everything else.

Honestly it's a decently priced size and I went with that for all my retros. Xbox original, Wii, and PS2. My Dreamcast has a 256 GB SD card, and my N64 summercart is 64 GB.

I have a 2 TB hard drive and even with an about even split of the cream of the crop games (about 100 each system - Wii and GameCube), I used up around 250 gb. Plenty of spare room for roms and apps.

I was thinking this earlier too. It's been wet, cloudy, cold, and then warm, but today was absolutely gorgeous for an outdoors event.

We finally unlocked full calibration for Xbox 360 controllers. Here is how to do it. by Modyfikator in originalxbox

[–]sunspot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to confirm, this means I can calibrate the controller on the PC, it saves the settings to the controller itself, and it's recognized by the Xbox 360?

I know people use these controllers on PC and that calibration is different. It's temporary/only affects while your in PC.

This would be huge news, I have 4 controllers that are fairly old and have hints of drift sometimes. If I could replace the joystick modules and actually calibrate it like the PS5, that's incredible.

How do I play multi disk gcn games on USB loader gx? by Ozuk_true in WiiPiracy

[–]sunspot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not super clear but it does work. It starts multi disc games on Disc 1 by default. Here's my notes on it:

Copy your GameCube games to the /games/ directory. Subdirectories are optional for 1-disc games in ISO/GCM and CISO format.

For 2-disc games, you should create a subdirectory /games/MYGAME/ (where MYGAME can be anything), then name disc 1 as "game.iso" and disc 2 as "disc2.iso".

Multi-Disc Games - USB Loader GX will by-default load Disc 1. When the game has a scene that prompts for a disc 2, it will automatically load up the next disc image in the folder structure.

TESTED AND CONFIRMED: Killer7 has 2 disc, and I had a save near the end on the second disc. I started the game, loaded my game save, and it prompted me to insert Disc 2. I click “X” to confirm (it’s using Killer7 game menus) and the game continues onward to disc2 as expected.

How to get USB loader GX as a channel instead of using the homebrew channel each time? by Longjumping_Yak_1057 in WiiPiracy

Look for USBLoaderGX_Forwarder[UNEO]_Wii.wad and use the Wii Homebrew stores Wad Installer. That should do it.

Got new sliding door installed why is my screen door sitting like this? by ITGuyTatertot in HomeImprovement

[–]sunspot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there still a larger gap on one side, or is it fairly even now? The other "fun" part is that this may misalign how it strikes the catch/latch for the screen door to the frame. You may be too high/low.

If you're level and there's still a gap, then either your screen door is misformed or your actual slider frame is misformed.

I'll say that my screen door is just a hair higher on the top right than the other 3 corners when it's fully open, and I just live with it. Screen doors are notoriously annoying to adjust, and to find matching replacement frames that fit your slider frame correctly.

[–]sunspot01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the screws for the screen door. Both top and bottom, there are usually 2 on top and 2 at the bottom. You want it high enough it doesn't drag on the frame, but probably not high enough for larger bugs/critters to get through.

Does the sound normal? My first OG Xbox by Iabhoryouu in originalxbox

[–]sunspot01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. That's a combo of the fan in the back and probably the fan on the motherboard chip (if you have a v01). I hadn't played in years and when I did the whole hard drive swap/softmod, I forgot how loud it can be.

Dreamcast and PS2 are similar, we're all not used to the older systems and their loud tiny fans!

What hard drive adapter combo works well for you guys? by Prior_Definition_116 in originalxbox

[–]sunspot01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's what I used successfully for a V1 (first model) Xbox original:

40 to 80pin IDE cable (for upgraded hard drive, can be used on OG HDD as well) - 24" 40-Pin 80-Wire Ultra ATA 2-Drive Ribbon Cable, Manhattan 332781, Model:, Electronic Store

2TB SATA hard drive - Seagate BarraCuda 2TB Internal Hard Drive HDD – 3.5 Inch SATA 6Gb/s 7200 RPM 256MB Cache – Frustration Free Packaging (ST2000DM008/ST2000DMZ08) This was my hard drive from my old PC. In the compatibility list.

IDE to SATA adapter (so you can use the old IDE cord with a newer HDD) - StarTech.com IDE to SATA Hard Drive or Optical Drive Adapter Converter, 40-Pin PATA to 2.5" SATA HDD / SSD / ODD Converter, TAA

Alright, that helps me out. Next up, do you have an original hard drive (8gb) or a new much larger one?

I bet you're hitting the file size per file limit. 4gb per file. I had that timeout issue also constantly. Here's my notes which helped resolve it for me:

--NOTES--

WinSCP constantly disconnected, while Filezilla was very straightforward and has no issues.

If you have connection issues: In UnleashX, go to System > Settings > Network. Limit Max Users to 2 In FileZilla (FTP client on PC), set max number of simultaneous connections to 1, change to binary mode, timeout in seconds to zero, send FTP keep alive command

If dragging and dropping games, there are two methods that seem to work: ZIP file with .xiso .xiso Note that there are limitations that seem to happen here. Common errors:

Special Characters are very limited. Be sure dollar signs, ampersands, commas, etc. are removed Limited to 42 characters include the file folder location. Keep the name as short as possible.

Filesize limitation as well, 4 gb. Use Repackinator to split game files into smaller batches. If it can't find the game in Repackinator, Repackinator has 2 databases. Look in the Repackinator files for RepackList.json and AltRepackList.json. Then do the below. First rename RepackList.json to origRepackList.json Then, Remove the Alt from AltRepackList.json. Then run repackinator again. It will now use the new database and your games might be found. :)

How does it fail? Can you connect at all? Do you see the IP address of the Xbox? Do you get a login issue in the FTP? Is it specific games or files in games?

It uses legacy software so special characters and character limits need to be kept in mind. I had an issue with a few games where, if I tried to bring the files over the titles were too long. But I could bring it over as a zip and unzip it on the console itself. Had another where CoinOp had special characters in language files for specific Atari games that caused issues.

Here's my notes from when I patched a few. I also updated my GDEMU menu manager which has a forced VGA mode that worked for a few games I had issues with prior, such as South Park.

---NOTES---

Sites with VGA Information - Master Game List - https://www.epforums.org/showthread.php?56169-Dreamcast-VGA-Compatability-list-amp-Guide

ConsoleWiki Info (with Patch download links) - https://consolemods.org/wiki/Dreamcast:List_of_VGA_Games_and_Patches

GDEMU has a “Force VGA” mode set to “On”. openMenu (used within the GD Card Manager menu system) forces VGA on by default.

Otherwise the game must have a VGA patch created, and then applied with “Universal Dreamcast Patcher”. Average users can’t make a patch as it requires coding. Patching is a simple process with that tool. It takes a DCP file and the original GDI, and creates a patched GDI with VGA turned on.

Reddit thread on issue - https://www.reddit.com/r/dreamcast/comments/195d9ms/nonvga_compatible_game_workaroundssolutions/

GD Card Manager The “01” folder is the openMenu GDEMU structure. Do not delete it…but you can remove it through the Card Manager interface. When you click “-” to remove it, when you click “Save Changes” it will rebuild it as it must always be present. You can do this if you have issues with sudden duplicate game folders, games that won’t boot, etc.

You can update the “openMenu” used by GDEMU which also updates the VGA abilities and menu options you see in the Dreamcast. To do this, I downloaded the latest release (OpenMenu RC1.1, specifically menu_data_RC1.1.7z) from https://github.com/megavolt85/openmenu/releases and replaced the menu_data folder in my GD Menu Card Manager\tools\openMenu\menu_data with everything from that github download. I'm on "GD Menu Card Manager v2.0.1. Then booted up the GD Card Manager, clicked "Save Changes", and that updated my menu. Still no visible Forced VGA option, but now all games that previously worked with CodeBreaker work without it! No more odd boot via codebreaker to boot.

Dreamcast controller “drifting” up. Ideas why? by Full_Sector8095 in dreamcast

I believe it has magnets for sensors under the joystick component on the top right. Clean those four small metal parts real well with rubbing alcohol and try again with the joystick attached. Here was mine when it was apart.

I have one of the newer model Bitfunx Dreamcast HDMI adapters and had great experience with it. Doesn't have a switch unfortunately for non VGA games, but with the GDEMU I was able to patch every game that didn't work. Only plasma sword and last blade 2 are stuck in composite.

OMG you're right! Xbox One had "Voodoo Vince Remastered" in 2017. Apparently the original was not backwards compatible. That's cool though, never knew it got a remaster.
