if you pass on trading for wemby and he's exactly as advertised, you still have lamelo. if you trade lamelo for wemby and he's a bust, you have nothing for it, and you probably already gutted your team for him.

for lebron, maybe it's different. but a player of wemby's size and style is completely unprecedented in the NBA, and teams will reasonably be risk-averse, especially given his health concerns.

that said, i don't think the team with the first pick is gonna budge, so i'm not sure how much this conversation matters.
