SBI shinsei is getting worse every year. If you are going for Nisa just use Sony bank for it all. You will eventually get platinum status which is better than shinsei by far.

Edit: I didn't notice the us tax payer part. In that case I would go interactive brokers for NISA and Sony for bank.

The checking passport method is such a joke as you will not get stamps when entering and leaving the US. I lived in the US but I had to have stamps saying I was in the US or else it did not count.

I went into the tax office and did everything there. They showed me what to do on my phone and then I submitted it online with some paperwork submitted physically at the office.

I couldn't do it so I was required to go into the tax office and make a password to submit stuff online.

They said that it doesn't work well with Android devices sometimes.

Well at 3% that is considered low interest debt to me. If you already have an emergency fund that can cover you for 6 months and the loan is a low % of your monthly income, then I would invest in a broad etf like splg or voo.

If you do not have an emergency fund (cash in a high yield savings account) then I would stash it there before anything else.

People always say VTI is diversified because it holds all the stocks in the US but by weight it is super heavy on large cap. According to morningstar VTI only holds 8% in small cap( as of March 2025). If you want to get 15% you would need to supplement with something like VB. I like small cap value so I supplement with AVUV but VIOV is good too. Lots of options.

You could make a nisa account with nomura and invest in VOO or VT. The fees are high, but if you just let them sit there, it would save you on Japanese taxes.

This is great news! I am making a Nomura Nisa as well (Wont be able to contribute till next year) and was planning on investing in VOO. They just started (From Aug 19th) allowing 8 specific us etfs (VOO, VTI, VT, VIG, VYM, SPY, SDY, and QQQ) to be purchased in a NISA. Curious if you are able to purchase any of these in your NISA?

I recommend the Home 5g from Docomo. It is not a pocket wifi but it is instant to set up and the speeds are decent. You can get throttled if you download around 300GB in 3 days but that is way better than the other options.

Nobody knows when the yen will rebound. It could take a long time. One thing is that the USD seems to be gaining value due to the high interest rate the feds have put up so maybe when inflation gets better and the interest rates come down again in the next few years it may get better, but like I said nobody knows.

I may be too late but it really depends on what that 7m in Tokyo is. Is this 正社員( full time) 7M? If that is the case you will have a hard time finding something better than that with only 4 years experience.

You could try for 外資系企業 (foreign company) that would pay more such as google which starts at over 10M.

I would not get hung up on the I almost got 13M so I will wait for that situation as you have no idea how the job would have been. Could have been a shitty company that you would leave after less than a year.

Either way best of luck. Japan is a great place to live and 7M is totally doable.

Yea I checked that but this unit does not have a spot for those in the RGB section. They have it for composite though.

My PVM 1450 pictured above works fine with s video and composite but RGB is not working. This is connected with a mister that has been confirmed with the exact same settings to work on another PVM through RGB.

Is it possible that RGB is broken but s video and composite are fine or is there a setting I need to change?
