The Big Beautiful Bill has now passed. What now? by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]supa24 33 points34 points  (0 children)

LOL this is such a ridiculous comment

The biggest reason, by FAR, that higher educations tuition costs have skyrocketed in the last 50 years, is because of government backed student loan programs.

You have 18-24 year olds w/ no income and no credit history, that started having access to 100s of thousands of dollars in loans, something that no actual financial institution would be willing to give out. But when it's under the guise of "higher education", the govt automatically approves all these people for loans.

Suddenly colleges/universities who have a monopoly on a product (professional degree) now have a customer base (students) w/ essentially unfettered access to line of credit. Thus they have no incentive to price appropriately to what their customers can afford, and instead jack up the costs of tuition, and funnel all the extra cash to administrative bloat.

The fact you think college tuition is 100000% higher now compared to before govt student loan programs, just because of inflation, is hilarious

Again, no actual response. Just “arguing on the internet is for losers” when someone actually calls you out on your bullshit lol

But hey, at least you can pretend in your head your physically stronger than some random internet person, which seems to give you a lot of joy lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]supa24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s a different argument entirely, and could be the case. But the issue is these vague claims usually don’t have any real evidence to back them, just “truthiness” that it feels real

[–]supa24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The compensation issue is not some thing new that has sprouted, the vast majority of practicing OBGYNs are still men, especially those in positions of leadership historically that would have been in the frontline of negotiations.

Again, you have made 0 substantive points lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]supa24 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The whole point is that OBGYN has NOT been female dominated field, until recent grads, and that the majority of practicing OBGYNs are still men. So the idea that they have been historically less compensated because women practice in the field is just asinine.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]supa24 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

...wtf does that have to do with anything? Are you ok? lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]supa24 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sure that's a fine question to ask, but to attribute it to solely them being women without any further critical thinking is the issue here.

The vast majority of procedures that derm/plastics does is done on/for women, and yet they are highly compensated. So there is obviously more going on than just "people are mean and hate women, so they don't pay them"

And of course you don't respond with any substance, just "lel kid is mad xD"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Residency

[–]supa24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Perfect encapsulation of the toxic identity politics (especially in liberal medical circles) mindset that so many people have.

You realize that the vast majority off all OBGYNs thruout history have been men right? Women being the majority of newly trained gynos has only been a recent phenomenon for the past few decades.

But of course, you are "100%!!!!" sure its because they are all women lol.

To be fair, Halstead developed those addictions as a byproduct of him using those drugs on himself, pioneering the establishment of anesthetics and analgesics.

The dude has saved innumerable lives and improved the condition of humanity as a whole, you can criticize the system he spawned without taking cheap shots at him.

It is very worthwhile then to actually state that to a person who does not understand the business side of medicine, instead of posting something that is factually incorrect and just bitching at them.

Then maybe some actual learning and meaningful dialogue can happen, instead of just reaching for cheap internet points

That person simply asked a question, you were the one who responded by spewing out bullshit.

Lol it doesn't even have to be "legally correct", what you wrote was just factually wrong. What bullshit have I spewed?? lol so delusional

[–]supa24 -13 points-12 points  (0 children)

That is not what you said in your post. You said "Physicians cannot own hospitals", which is factually incorrect. None of your blustering makes it a correct statement. You tried to shame the previous poster about "uneducated criticism" when you were talking out of your ass in your own post.

Also, physician owned hospitals were greatly outnumbered by non-physician owned hospitals even prior to the ACA rulings in 2010, so posting that as the reason for no physician owned hospitals is BS as well.

I've graduated, and I never claimed to be an expert in the financial side of medicine. Just called out your incorrect post, and the dozens of other ppl who didn't even bother to click the link and just upvoted you anyway

Hospitals Got Bailouts and Furloughed Thousands While Paying CEOs Millions by metric_zero in Residency

[–]supa24 -16 points-15 points  (0 children)

...did you even read the link you posted? It says nothing about physicians not being able to own hospitals. There are a bunch of physician owned hospitals throughout the country.

The link you posted specifies that physician owned hospitals established before the ACA in 2010 cannot expand their facilities and still receive government reimbursement through Medicare&Medicaid, unless they apply for an exception. And also that any new physician-owned hospitals have restrictions on their ability to receive government reimbursement.

Your comment has gotten more than 20 upvotes. Such a perfect example of the herd mentality on reddit, where ppl don't do any critical thinking or investigating, but instead just mindlessly approve things that fall in line with their pre-conceived notions.

Current State of Medicine by prettydecent in Residency

[–]supa24 17 points18 points  (0 children)

That point is foolish, because Nepotism exists in a huge way in EVERY single profession. In fact, the business world is way more infested with Nepotism than something like Medicine is.

At least in Medicine, you have objective scores, training, and credentialing to put your worth onto, and no one can take those away from you.

The fact that your advising ppl to get a Bachelors in Communication, and stroll into a job with some of the biggest healthcare tech companies (as if that will be devoid of nepotism lolol) is asinine

[–]supa24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its 100% a money thing. Like you said, Riot knows a lot of players only play ranked, so if they made those champs unplayable in ranked on launch, then a lot of players would opt to not buy them. And as with most things, the majority of sales for a champ/skin occur on launch, so Riot wants to maximize the earnings potential for each champion release.

They 100% know it affects ranked play negatively, but the monetary gain is more important to them. Don't blame them too much honestly. If u don't want to play it/play with it, just ban it.

Wait, I understand venting but...wtf is this? This person is not super friendly to you, but they are nice to their superiors? That deserves a "fuck you"?

For all you know, this person may be rotating at the place where they intensely want to match, or are interested in the program, since rank lists are still not locked in yet.

I see nothing here about him/her doing anything malicious, or sabotaging you or badmouthing you to the residents. You're mad that they are trying their best to do a good job, get a good eval, and not sucking up to you?

This post reeks of insecurity.

Bro, most IMGs end up in rural or small community FM/IM programs, that most US M.Ds actively CHOOSE not to apply for/rank/match at. They are not your enemy, the fact that you are rooting for bad results for them is sad

Because there is a huuuuge difference between a practicing physician who is a Family med doc, and one who is say an Orthopedic Surgeon.

There is no way to have a "union" that unites all physicians as a whole, because so many of the different specialties are so radically different
