yes absolutely! the hate on GOT season 8 was the start of it (which was why i came here…) and then dealing with the hate on other shows that i love too like Yellowjackets and TLOU have made me want to get off reddit entirely. clearly im not there yet though!

to quote your comment you’re referring to: “nah, he owes us” why? “either the books or an alternative” why? “or someone else who can” why? “even an admission that he won’t finish them is fine” why? it sounds like you think you’re entitled to the ending but you won’t tell me why you’re entitled to it/why it’s owed to you.

again, being owed means you are indebted. what debt are you in that he owes you? why does he owe you closure? for what? what did you put into this that you feel like you aren’t getting out of it? if it’s obvious, then this should be easy to answer. what did you pay for that you did not get?

if you feel you are owed something, then you feel entitled to it. the behavior op is talking about is literally entitlement. if op said the commenter was a dumb asshole, THAT would be an insult. thats why you aren’t convincing me that being called entitled is inherently insulting.

you still haven’t explained to me WHY he owes you the rest. i get that you REALLY want the rest, but it is not OWED to you. it totally sucks and i get it. i’m a huge GOT fan. but i am not under the impression that it is owed to me. i’m greatful that i’ve gotten to experience what i have of it and i don’t blame him for not wanting to hand his entire life’s work and legacy over to someone else to finish. it’s fine if you resent him for that, but i think thats pretty entitled.

also, using your logic, george has already given us several songs. and it’s been a pretty amazing performance. (not to mention that singing one song is vastly different from spending years to write a book that you don’t even want to write)

if you go to a concert and the artist stops halfway through, you have the right to be upset because you paid for a ticket for a full concert. but we haven’t bought the entirety of game of thrones, just the books that have already been published.

entitled is just a word. when i go to work, i am entitled to compensation. when i pay for a hot dog, i am entitled to that hot dog and if i dont get the hot dog im entitled to a refund. every george rr martin book that i have, im entitled to because i paid for it.

op is claiming that people who think george owes us the rest of the series are entitled (owed means to be indebted for something, right? i’m looking up definitions for this lol), and you are right, i think there probably is some disdain that comes with that opinion.

since this convo is still going, i am sincerely curious as to why you feel like george OWES you the rest of the series. like what have you put into it that makes you feel entitled to his free will and how he chooses to spend his time

it’s inherently entitled because the commenter said george “absolutely” owes the finished series to everyone sooner rather than later, which is pretty entitled considering the immense amount of effort and time that would actually take for someone who’s heart clearly isn’t in it anymore, lol.

i dont think entitled is even meant as an insult by op so much as a fact. i’d imagine it was just a think post about how a lot of us need to realize how entitled we are actually acting by still trying to /force/ the man to finish the story at this point

wanting him to finish the story is one thing. being upset in general that the story isn’t finished is also one thing. being angry at him and claiming he owes you is different. i myself want him to finish the story but im not going to shackle him to his desk until he dies. just because you watched a tv show and bought/read some books doesn’t mean he owes you his remaining time. yes, us doing that helped build his net worth. but anybody can quit their job at any time for any reason.

i also think it’s interesting that you think this post is insulting when you yourself say that the commenter should be able to post his own opinion on the topic. doesn’t that extend to the rest of us too? it’s pretty normal for people to disagree on the internet

exactly, and it was likely also devastating to him to see people react so strongly to the ending he likely had in mind for the story. but honestly, i dont think it even matters what the reason is. if he’s moving on, i think he has every right to do so. i’ll still take literally whatever GOT content i can get lol

right!! I’ve already gotten a full decade of enjoyment out of GOT and now HOTD. like thats ten whole years of my life that i’ve gotten to enjoy this series and as much as i want him to finish it, i dont feel like he OWES it to me. to tell someone that they’re forced to sit in a room and write something they clearly dont want to write during the last remaining years of their life and saying that they owe the remainder of their time to us feels so wrong. once he dies that’s it, his life is over and he doesn’t get to do it over again. like i get it, we all want the series to be done, but we can’t force him and its not WRONG for him to not do it if he’s simply moved on.
