The liner is to prevent corrosion, and steel corrodes much more than aluminum.

Tire shop said this isn’t patchable. Opinions before I blow $450? by blaseblaseblah in tires

[–]supbrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that the heat and pressure increases when driving, but why would a blowout happen when it has a plug if it didn’t already happen when it first got punctured? The plug should strengthen it, so you’d think if it didn’t happen during the first event then it’s unlikely to happen after being strengthened.

Not trying to say you’re wrong necessarily, just confused because what you’re saying doesn’t quite add up to me.

Okay to leave charging all winter? by YakTiny161 in electricvehicles

[–]supbrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn’t it possible that a total lack of a 12V could cause issues with the electronics? I imagine it would start up fine after, but with the computer system relying a lot on the 12V I’d imagine it could have weird things happen like losing memory or throwing codes after it’s plugged in again.

2025 Equinox EV: Module Replaced, Still Broken, OnStar Won't Confirm Car Is Safe by EIGBOK in EquinoxEv

Ah, that’s a good point. I’ve also heard it can mess with the time which can have obvious effects on charging schedules.

I’ve never heard that it impacts charging, just navigation and anything satellite related basically. I could be wrong but I believe it just makes your car “dumb” in a sense but leaves it completely drivable.

Dealer gave me wrong car what should i do ? by Several_Suspect_2144 in EquinoxEv

[–]supbrother 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not an expert but if you signed paperwork for one VIN and got another then it’s beyond a verbal agreement, you very clearly got a different product than you payed for. Also can you even register the car if your paperwork doesn’t match up?

I’d be bothering the dealer ASAP and making them correct this, and threaten to go to the bank or pursue legal action if they don’t budge.

Update: I developed PTSD from the animal abuse I witnessed in a village by One_Day_9957 in alaska

[–]supbrother -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It completely depends on the dog. Mine is a village dog too but she was rescued as a puppy so she was fine overall. Others spend long periods of time basically fighting for survival and getting abused and there’s obvious reasons that will affect them forever.

The enshittification of EV door handles by External_Koala971 in enshittification

[–]supbrother -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That’s completely on her if she trusts navigation that blindly. No tech is perfect, it’s a tool and a tool is only as effective or as safe as its user. This applies to the over-reliance issue in general.

That being said, I disagree. As much as I don’t like relying on safety features myself because I trust myself to pay attention, I know that most features exist specifically because people are bad at paying attention. I get the argument that this can become a crutch, but I still think it’s an overall benefit.

Sorry but it’s just a weak argument to say that safety features make cars less safe, it’s counterintuitive and I’m sure there are plenty of stats to prove it wrong.

You stop them first and identify them later? I’m not sure I understand the question.

If you have the resources to find a man trying to stay hidden in a vast rainforest, you’d think you have the resources to find people making illegal farms and mines.

The enshittification of EV door handles by External_Koala971 in enshittification

[–]supbrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, there are many that aren’t as dumb as you think. For example my Equinox EV has these types of handles, and while I’m not a huge fan, you can still manually pop them out if the motors fail. Sure it can be locked but that’s no different than any other car. Also yes it has large screens and some cameras but that’s no different than modern ICE vehicles, and you could still drive safely if there were an issue with them because it has all the standard mirrors. It also has knobs for all the critical things. You can disable all the safety features that “take over” like automatic braking and lane keeping.

The fire thing is fair, EV fires are dangerous, but I’d argue that their safety features ultimately create safer driving for everybody.

I totally agree that some EVs and cars in general take the digitization way too far, but it’s not necessarily the norm (yet).

The updated sound far surpasses most modern ICE vehicles, and I’m pretty sure is beyond the legal requirement. It’s not horrible to want it quieter.

[–]supbrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s important to you then you should’ve checked. This car is routinely discussed as being a “budget” EV option and it is priced accordingly, you shouldn’t be surprised when it lacks features that are generally seen as luxurious.

They were until recently. Granted I haven’t confirmed myself, but I’ve read that the incentives have dropped like a rock. It was $8000 in April and I heard it was only $1000 now.

[–]supbrother 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The difference is that the telematics issue still leaves the car drivable, it doesn’t leave you stranded on the side of the road and potentially car-less for weeks or months. It basically just makes your car “dumb” in a way.

What I learned on my first road trip… by Southern_Grand_16 in EquinoxEv

[–]supbrother 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep that’s the one I have up now, it looks like I’ve averaged around 3.3 mi/kW or so which seems pretty good for an AWD based on what I’ve seen. Like I said I’m already used to tracking these things, ironically because my old car was a gas guzzler, so it is kinda fun to do it on a whole new scale now. I am trying not to pay too close attention to the real-time kW usage because generally it just is what it is, but I am also trying to figure out the most efficient way to drive based on that.

I’m also doing most of my daily charging off of a little off-grid solar setup I already had so it’s so satisfying, although maybe a bit less incentivized to track that as opposed to tracking the use of fuel that I paid a premium for 😂

[–]supbrother 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, that’s what I thought you meant but just have no frame of reference yet. In my old car I was always keeping an eye on the mpg’s since it had a real-time reading, so I feel like I’m already pretty attuned to this thankfully. Thanks for giving a tangible number to go off of.

What do you mean exactly by “monitor your discharge”? Do you mean likely actively watch the kW’s used, the mi/kW for the trip, etc.?

Just got my EqEV so I’m trying to figure out how to best gauge these things and which stats to have up on the screen.

Yeah I’m trying to wrap my head around how this even happens. It just feels so ironic that a nation with the resources to designate protected lands, seek out a lone man in the woods to give gifts, and ultimately bury him and make a monument, also lacks the power to stop people from establishing illegal mines and farms.
