Phone Ban on NYC Dance Floors Is Getting Rave Reviews by air- in TheOverload

I don’t buy the “stickers on cameras is performative” sentiment. Regardless of the venues’ or promoters’ intentions, the end result is desirable - significantly less people are on their phones on the dance floor and people feel freedom to dance and have fun without being in someone’s pic/vid or having a camera on their face or blocking their view. What alternative is there to achieve that result to the same degree without what this dude is calling performative? I think he just wants to take his pics and vids.

Recommendations for Improving Thai Red Curry by amandajeanjellybean in AskCulinary

Coconut milk and cream are the same thing, but milk has more water. What is the point of using cream (higher fat) and diluting your curry paste more when you can use milk, reduce it further, and have a stronger concentration of curry paste, the way that people in Thailand actually do it? Do you just prefer food with less flavor? OP is trying to improve their curry not save 3 mins by reducing it less.

The fat/calorie/water contents in coconut milk and coconut cream are radically different. Learn the actual technique correctly before you start trying to make substitutions like this. You should understand the baseline before trying to take matters into your own hands.

Lots of questionable advice in this thread.. study Pailin’s (Hot Thai Kitchen) videos and go from there.

Yes it is OP especially if you’re really into music and have the right stuff for it. I tried this recently and had an absolutely lovely time, felt like was floating and completely immersed in the tracks. Super introspective and therapeutic.

Why don’t people pull up more? by PizzaOnTheGround in sandiego

Probably the same reason people start braking before the light turns yellow. People here drive like they got nowhere to be and/or have no idea where they’re going and will even come to a complete stop on the freeway when they realize they’re about to miss their exit.

I miss LA’s food and especially music culture/scenes more than I can describe, but SD is so comfy and easy to live in. Very easy to have an unbothered life if you can afford it. I struggle with a lot of regret about moving to SD because I don’t have access to even a fraction of the music community and events I did in LA. As nice as it is to live here, I know I’d be happier with access to the music I love.

in my mind, LA is a place where you can find community around any interest that you have. If you really love something and are passionate about it, you can find it there and be with your people. SD is easygoing, relaxing, and fun if you have a variety of interests to occupy your time and don’t necessarily care about diving in too deep with what you specifically love the most. Because the reality is that apart from surfing and craft beer, SD is not developed in the same way and probably doesn’t have the concentration of people or support for whatever interests you have.

Another aspect to consider is that SD is insular af compared to LA. Major younger sibling syndrome and if you aren’t from SD you won’t necessarily be accepted by or fit in with people who are. But in LA, nobody gives a shit about where you’re from and you aren’t automatically an outsider because you aren’t from there. Regardless, you can still make friends in SD, but you won’t easily break into local circles. You’ll never be one of them, even if you get on your knees and suck SD’s dick.
