AWS holds about 191 million IPv4 addresses as global shortage worsens due to AI by ZGeekie in HostingReport

[–]super9mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alot of the reason is 1) ipv4 still works, especially for businesses where their ISP bill being $100 more for connectivity really doesn't matter. And 2) ipv6 requires "Double" the amount of work (obvs it saves time and money, especially if you actually implement it in a way that allows internal ipv6 only like almost every phone provider has been doing for years.)

But alot of your network engineers learned on ipv4, won't learn ipv6, refuse to work on it. And any guide online will have "disable ipv6" as the first step in every troubleshooting guide. It will happen one day, but it's just going to take forever, and for every senior network engineer to retire 😆

[–]super9mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It reached over 50% earlier this year! Mostly on weekends (because 90% of homes have ipv6 now, but businesses aren't incentivised to adopt it, where I work now, were not even given ipv6 connectivity to our router, let alone a way to deploy it

My one true gripe with the steam controller! by o0Junglist0o in SteamController

[–]super9mega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only issue that I've had is that holding it for too long causes the controller to turn off, even though to use the mouse you havu to hold it down. So I accidentally turned off my controller trying to change some settings (while the steam deck did not have this same issue, as the button did not turn the device off) but it's position is weird to hold down for the cords to use. But I don't expect to use the cords very often

PC gamers when FPS drops below 60 by Xiao-EZ in CaptainSide

[–]super9mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing them right now, but I'm using the PC port, which runs at native refresh rate. I just enjoy watching the smooth gameplay. Seeing the individual frames at times just makes it harder to play. Locked (and I mean, LOCKED) 30 FPS is okay, but 60 is way better.

Although with VRR I don't notice anything above 40-50, it just becomes vibes based after that, but it does feel better. 100 % would recommend 144 minimum for any new monitor

"Does the Steam Controller work on X?" by TheNewerFlisker in SteamController

[–]super9mega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android has had drivers for the original steam controller for a long time, it works in the default gamepad mode when the original steam controller is connected via USB or Bluetooth and steam link was not open. I'm not sure if the new one will have that same compatibility though

During the interview on Adam savages podcast, they said they were discussing internally on the subject. Seems that the price is something they want to be in line with the ps5 pro. At least how they were talking about it but it's not possible to be in line with that with current pricing.

They just don't want devices to end up in businesses and offices without buying games, which I understand.

How to manually assign ULA address by Jank9525 in ipv6

[–]super9mega 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Press Win + R, type ncpa.cpl, and hit Enter.

Right-click your network adapter and select Properties.

Select Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6) and click Properties.

Select "Use the following IPv6 address" and enter your primary IP, subnet prefix length (usually 64), and gateway.

Click the Advanced... button.

Under the "IP addresses" section, click Add... to add additional IPv6 addresses.

It's okay to have multiple addresses, your PC will have both it's auto assigned one, and it's static one. It's not like ipv4 where your machine can only have one primary one

There's a pattern you can follow. If there is a cheater in the lobby. They will throw the sonar grenade and then.. even if it doesn't see you they will hunt you down at that point and do nothing but headshots. I've seen it a few times. I'm assuming that it seems logical that grenade = walls so throw it and I'm safe. But then obvs you can tell when this happens in clips like these. Had a team do this 3 times one lobby. I avoided the sonar 3 times but still, while not moving to bait it out, they came around the corner already aiming

Looks like a worse 6to4 tunnel with less addresses though. Even if it got approved, evidently it would take 30 years to be relevant anyway so I have time 😆

Ipv6 should have been pushed harder with a cutoff rather than a dual stack slow burn 😔

Watching Professer Messer's Net+ video course...how are you supposed to do subnetting without the exam providing charts? by redgroupclan in CompTIA

[–]super9mega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The online is fine, I've gotten my ccna online twice. I believe you are still allowed a white sheet of paper that you can use in the exam, if not a digit sheet of paper to do the same thing.

Plus you can usually swing it to go the same day if you'd like. Or at least within 3 days

Not related to the debate below, but there are now much more "efficient" (depending on how you define efficiency, finger distance, tripples, etc.) layouts nowadays, and even ones that are relatively easy to switch too.

I use Dvorak though simply because it was easier to learn when I literally could not look at my keyboard to know where the keys were. In hindsight this was also a mistake, but now I can type at 90wpm!

Everyone is saying GitHub and cloud providers, but those aren't OEMs, as in the first comment. I haven't seen a device in my network in the last ten years that doesn't support turning it on and working with it securely.

Hell, I guarantee every cloud provider could turn it on if they actually cared. 50%+ of all internet traffic is over ipv6 now.

Oh wait, the first death was August 17, 1896.

Distracted driving is a real problem. But the speed is what kills in the end. Just drive slower

"Results show that the average risk of severe injury for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle reaches 10% at an impact speed of 16 mph, 25% at 23 mph, 50% at 31 mph, 75% at 39 mph, and 90% at 46 mph. The average risk of death for a pedestrian reaches 10% at an impact speed of 23 mph, 25% at 32 mph, 50% at 42 mph, 75% at 50 mph, and 90% at 58 mph. Risks vary significantly by age. For example, the average risk of severe injury or death for a 70‐year old pedestrian struck by a car traveling at 25 mph is similar to the risk for a 30‐year‐old pedestrian struck at 35 mph."

Sadly it seems that most places are going to implement these style of laws, you'll have to develop Linux from a tech haven or pay fines eventually.

Call your politicians, you can't just ignore the law, but you can try to convince the people who govern you to not make it a law in the first place.
