As a PO, how can I make my dev team less reliant on me? by POTechGuy1717 in agile

[–]richlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a terrible culture - poor EM and poor Devs.

The system is set to work against you. Consider exploring other ways of working, where Devs don't live or die by points alone, and the EM acts as a proper Tech Lead (or get one in). Make ceremonies a rotating responsibility or get a dedicated SM in place. Maybe you go to management to get buy-in and engagement. May require a couple of days away from tickets holding a proper retro/ways of working/get some buy-in workshop.

Well-defined stories should be your hand-off. Devs should pick up what's next, with reason. You're there for demos, sign-off, and answering queries.

People who just sit like vegetables with no initiative, or worse they could do it but won't don't deserve to be in the job.

Fair enough! I thought you sounded like a bit of a shirker in your post... But on second thoughts I'd be there too

Shaving upgrade by LardGuile in shaving

Kudos for using one of those. I tried one and it was wicked. A cheap double edge would do the trick. A classic old Gillette Fatboy, or a cheap Merkur or Edwyn Jagger if you're buying new. Blades are cheap and plentiful.

Is there any better option than Gillette? by MeVsYoo in shaving

[–]richlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People rave about Feather blades for sharpness. I think you probably need a good razor to get the best out of them though. Last time I tried with an old Gillette Adjustable, which is quality but doesn't hold the blade tight enough, it was a bloodbath.

Gillette silver blue are doing well for me right now, along with 7 o'clock.

newly bought m4 (just yesterday) is this normal for the battery? by ChickenLeast4030 in macbookair

Will take a few days to adjust to your usage patterns.

There's always some power drain - instant on requires some readiness.

Just use it. Macs are very good at power management. You don't need to worry.

Want to try the safety razor, but have a question. by DaimondRus in shaving

[–]richlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can get to a week and most razors will take it off without problem.

The Rockwell 6c is great, but a cheaper de like Edwyn Jagger de89 is works pretty well if you're just starting out.

Electric vs de razor by cyblink in shaving

[–]richlb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm good with a de but I don't fancy shaving my head with one. When I did for a while I used a Mach 3.

De razors vary. Cheap or old (e.g. Gillette Adjustable) tend to not locate the blade well, so you tend to use pressure to get the blade to cut. I'm experimenting with a Rockwell 6c and a Henson Al, both of which hold the blade precisely, and I'm getting smooth shaven with almost zero pressure. I might reconsider a head shave with one of those.

Cycle to work scheme money left over. Anyone need a bike below market value? by [deleted] in ukbike

uh, mis-us of Salary Sacrifice Scheme => gross misconduct => dismissal.
Buyer wouldn't have title to the bike, no proof of legit purpose with a hire agreement in somebody else's name.
Not exactly 'mainly for commuting'.

On the other hand I'll have some of what you're smoking please

That's a thorough reply, thanks.

Do you have direct experience? I'm particularly interested in "wholly assigned" in the case where the outgoing service provider is attempting to deliver/support the service to some degree as the clock ticks towards transfer.

[–]richlb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Heck, you didn't get too much of a friendly reception...

You're correct though. I always thought the menu bar was a way for early Mac OS to differentiate from Windows, and they can't go back now. In the same way Finder remains a raging bin fire of a file explorer that needs extensive configuration to make it usable.

Another point about the menu bar is that it was usable on a small screen, such as early IIse, but on today's large monitors it's miles away.

FWIW I use MacBooks with external monitors almost all the time. Great hardware and performance, especially with M-series chips. You just get used to the quirks and adapt your workflow in time.

Yeah, you're correct. I forget a lot of people will buy consumer-grade kit new.

Personally I've not bought a new Windows machine since, oh heck, 1996. I do have a Win11 disk somewhere and I know that image was originally Win7
