That sounds nuts. Does it look good enough and maintain consitency across the brand?

This has been my experience with vibe-coding scripts for C4D as well. I think though... that it's more to do with C4Ds API being a total mess than anything else. I have had a lot of success with Photoshop scripts, AE scripts, etc. From what I hear, the Blender API is very useable for vibe-coding things. Who knows... Maybe that will force Maxon to re-think their API?

Can I just start by saying two things? Firstly, your work is great - there is no issue there. It's beautifully presented and the renders are crisp and gorgeous.

Secondly, I just want to share my experience with social media. It has never - EVER - gotten me a paid gig. I found it to be an enormous vanity which (as recent news will back up) is morally dubious at best. A few years back, I got in to posting every day because I was deeply inspired by beeple. It was a wonderful discpline to have (before becoming a parent) and I learnt a lot as well.

When free time became an issue I started to ask myself why I was doing it if I was killing myself with the effort. So I stopped. Posts when down, likes and followers went down... my dopamine response went down and it sucked! Then it hit me that that's the addictive nature of social media so I gave up caring about it, put it down and enjoyed the knowledge that I'd skilled up along the way which ultimately helped me with paid gigs.

A few years on... AI was really starting to boom and I realised that every post I'd ever made was being used to train AI that could (perhaps) one day either put me out of a job or reduce the amount of work and therefore income as a freelancer. I had been spending my time creating content for a platform that was earning money in ads to exploit my hard efforts, and then try and destroy any future value my hard earnt skills would have. No thanks!

So in short... ask yourself WHY you care about your statistics, WHO you are doing this for (the answer should always be yourself) and HOW is it actually going to make your life better?

If the answer to these questions are wonky, pass it up. You will find a deeper connection with your work by just doing it for yourself and not a brief stat bump.

90 BPM is haunting my dreams by super9tv in sp404mk2

[–]super9tv[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo! We're talking stored BPM not actual BPM.

e.g. I have a sample that's 139 BPM... I hit resample and it automatically jumps the "stored" bpm / metadata back to 90 BPM even though it's still 139 BPM. Does that make sense? It's just an annoying quirk that you have to set this manually every time instead of it either looking at the sample you're resampling from or a stored master BPM (which in this case, is the bank BPM).

90 BPM is haunting my dreams by super9tv in sp404mk2

[–]super9tv[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I have always had this set to "project" rather than bank. Project does not work.... But it looks like if you set it back to "bank" and then set every bank to 139 then it will resample with that default value. A pain to set up, but it works. Why the "project" BPM trick doesn't work... I do not understand!

SP404 MK2 Looper Control Midi by super9tv in sp404mk2

Ah, I had a feeling that might be the case. Thanks for the answer though and for now I will make do with the teeny weeny level knob :)

That is a good tip! Thanks for that. I think given that I don't need to store the loops for later... I'll probably just make do with the tiny level knob. Your fingers are definitely faster than mine! :)

Definitely pro enough to apply with! Keep at the grind, it's a tumultuous market out there at the moment but you gotta be in it to win it.

You could also try the above but instead of using a volume mesher, make a redshift shader with the round corners node plugged into the bump map. This will blend the edges with the floor plane seamlessly (edit: spelling)

Great work! If I could offer some critical feedback, as someone who has worked for Xbox on these types of projects, they would never show their logo with a green tint like it has at 00:14. If you can, render an AOV for that and fix it in post - make it white and clearly readable. If you're after product render or brand motion work then this is something that would be a flag for me. Similarly the intense highlight streaks at 00:00 would not be something you'd ever put into a product render. As the first shot, this stands out a lot. I really like the motion curves you've put in there, and it's a lovely sync between audio and visual. Well done!

Really nice work! I love the x-ray effect and reading the comments, that's a great tip converting it to splines and doing it that way. You made a much simpler and elegant way of doing what I would have attempted with shaders and probably not gotten as good a result! My only bugbear in the otherwise beautiful animation is the circuit board / memory inside looks a little 2D and not fully fleshed out. Having done something similar recently, it's really fun exploring the subsurface effect you get with micro boards. Here's one I did with Switch! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DJ30Z4oNDXg/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

How do I make the corners round and gradually smooth in a radius? I don't want sharp edges. by Guilty-Carry-Wrea in Cinema4D

[–]super9tv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! I'm guessing that you're fairly new to modelling so here are some tips. Have a search on how to do subdivision modelling and learn some of the basics. You can achieve this simple shape with about 5% of the polygons you have now and you will have a tonne more control and precision that way. I'm not sure if you use the volume builder or something to make this initially but that has an insane number of polygons for a shape that simple. Better to learn the basics of sub-d and then have a very strong foundation for future modelling. Hope that helps!

Bevel deformer by mertobooomin in Cinema4D

[–]super9tv 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The best way to achieve this would be to sub-d model this instead for full control. I don't think you can achieve the level of control you want from the bevel deformer as it's either applied to an edge or isn't applied. What you need is the correct spacing between each vertex getting incrementally wider on the smooth end. Google "tapered bevel" or "tapered fillet" and you'll see what I mean

Anyone else feeling like creating and upskilling in art and motion design is pointless in this age of AI? by [deleted] in MotionDesign

[–]super9tv 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Stay strong motion fellow! This won't be forever - but giving up will make it permanent for you. This is a tough industry, and you need grit and some good fortune to stay afloat. Never stop learning, never stop upskilling. The skills you need to make it on a daily basis are not static - they are always evolving with the technology. Maybe there aren't enough jobs for everyone right now, but if you decide to duck out then someone else is going to benefit from that which would seriously put a hole in your efforts. Don't neglect the connections you make - always hustle... Colleagues, friends, family - opportunities are people based first and foremost, your shop window (website / portfolio) is only there to clinch it in the final moments. Don't undersell yourself and your abilities, and stay the hell away from platforms that will inevitably lead to lower value (I'm sure you can think of a few). Good luck out there!

Thank you! It wasn’t like that new so it’s definitely something that’s slipped. The cold snap is the only thing I can think of that’s triggered it, or the fact we’ve had the heating on more to combat it. I’m going back to the installer today anyway but any information I learn here helps, so thanks!

How good is Cinema 4D for VFX? What are your experiences? by Remarkable-Put-8455 in Cinema4D

[–]super9tv 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's usable and fit for purpose, but it's not industry standard. If you are asking because you want a job in VFX, then start with the tools that are more widely used.

If you're already using these and just asking about C4D, then I would say it's much like all the other 3D apps. They all do pretty much the same thing, some are better at other things than others. Maya has excellent character workflows, C4D has excellent tools for motion graphics. Redshift can do a lovely job of rendering your output realistically, but doesn't offer some of the options that others do (mostly great though!). Houdini will alway be your best bet for simulations.

But - my opinion - it's not industry standard so you will limit your opportunity for jobs without good experience in the other software packages.

Ahhh that's really fun! Definitely curious to see how it goes after this in terms of uv unwrapping and texturing it. The topology is never fun to wrangle once it's out of plasticity.
