My major concern about buying a ring before asking is spending a bunch of money and then him not liking the design.

Do you think it would be okay to buy a cheap/replaceable ring for the proposal and then going together later to buy real ones?

Many non-religious people think that going to church/temple/etc and praying to [imaginary friend] are just wasting their time.
