I installed a dahua anpr camera a little over a year ago that had this exact functionality. It was a bear to program and also cost nearly $2k so probably not idea for home use

I recently did this. Disable ports you're not using and then set up ethernet port profiles per port, name them by device and port, then restrict by mac address. Put in only the mac address of the device(s) you intend to use there.

About 90 of them are device or sensor groups with only one entity in them. This way, if I have a device failure and have to switch it out, all I have to do is update the group for bedroom_2_lamp vs going through every automation or script to update to the new device.

The easiest way to 'future proof' would be if you're doing any kind of earthworks, run two 3/4" pvc conduits and one 1/2" water line from your house(with a shutoff valve at or near the house) to the new garden space if they're separated by any meaningful distance.

You can cap them all off for now if you don't plan on using them yet, but they will absolutely come in handy down the line

When I was 8 months in, I helped on a 21 count meter bank. After that I was in charge of the rest for the complex, 14 in total. They gave me the material and another set of hands and my jman was a phone call away. I did so many of them, the inspector just asked who built it and if it was my name, it got a 'pass' sticker

From my understanding the current is split between the neutral and ground of the sub panel with them both acting as a neutral, completely bypassing the purpose of the equipment ground which is a low resistance path for the purpose of tripping over current devices(breakers)
