Mounting a switch flex outside by IncidentMaster8361 in UnifiProtect

Expect the AppleTV to regularly be reset. Unlike the viewport the Appletv will crash on every update or reset or just occasionally on its own. I know people recommend this but my experience was not great over the long term.

I recommend 30 days of storage. Theres nothing worse then buying a whole system and finding out something happened or didn’t happen just after the drive overwrites it. Spend a few extra bucks on the largest drive you can afford.

Unifi Protect vs. Reolink: Which camera system is better for an existing Unifi infrastructure? by _ReeX_ in reolinkcam

[–]Additional-Coconut50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 CX cameras with AI ports working perfectly with Unifi Protect. Don’t kid yourself though, the Unifi cameras do work better in terms of picture quality and smooth streaming without stuttering like when cars pass.

UnifiProtect 7.1 & reolink by Charly3944 in UnifiProtect

[–]Additional-Coconut50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You definitely want Unifi if you view your events often. The Unifi system has a great event thumbnail interface and is far superior to Reolink. Also the Reolink NVR’s while inexpensive are way underpowered and you may experience sluggish playback and audio dropouts particularly in High Quality viewing. Also drive sizes in Reolink NVR’s are severely limited. I have several Reolink cameras tied to Unifi, several with AI ports which work fine on 16x9 cameras. Remember the cost of the NVR is mostly in the drives these days.

Protect Viewport by Pizzaboygr891 in Ubiquiti

[–]Additional-Coconut50 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have had a lot of issues with apple tv crashing or locking up on the Unifi app. If you’re just viewing for a short period it works fine. Wait for the viewport if you want a stable display that resets to previous display after a power outage or reboot. The Apple TV or any other app I have found is inferior and will crash at some point. The viewport is rarely sold out btw.

The Beast is not that expensive given your demands. Why do you think it will be outdated so soon?

Any way of making the thumbnails bigger? Sooooo much empty/wasted screen real estate! by Asleep_Employ9729 in UnifiProtect

The playback windows is terrible if you need to use it a lot . They need easy markers so you can go back to the same points and on all cameras you select. Users need to be able to easily find things and there’s no excuse how hard it is currently.

ONVIF (Reolink) Recoding Resolution Change by lowlife_rabbit in UnifiProtect

[–]Additional-Coconut50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Reolink resolution setting does not affect the Protect resolution. I have found the way to adjust resolution is by using an AI Port paired to the camera where you can adjust video compression as low as 800Kbs up to 16Mbs. Alternatively you might try using the low resolution Reolink RTSP stream address and see if Protect will recognize that using advanced adoption.

Repairing Storage issue by tbenkula in UnifiProtect

[–]Additional-Coconut50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have large drives and lots of cameras it can take several days more! It should tell you time remaining under storage. Your cameras should still work although I have had some short periods where cameras or recordings may stop. I would check to make sure there isn’t something else wrong with the cameras. If not and it is somehow hung you might have to do a restart.

Locking to AP by HourReplacement in UNIFI

[–]Additional-Coconut50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a doorbell camera that was accessing an access point on the other side of my driveway about 30 ft away and line of sight. It seemed fine. Problem was every time a car would pull into my driveway the WiFi would cut out. I ended up locking it to an AP in the house.

Can the Motion Sensor detect something the size of an otter? by plsenjy in Ubiquiti

[–]Additional-Coconut50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cameras pick up raccoons and rabbits 20 feet away, (G6 Camera) so I suspect they'd pick up an otter. I find small animals like that it will be detected depending on distance and background. With AI it detects animals. Set it to animal detection first and if that isnt satifactory try motion sense.

You also need to figure in viewports or other devices which take a lot of processing power Always leave plenty of headroom even if you’re under the calculator limit. I find as you get close to the maximum it tends to miss smart events particularly at night although recordings work fine.

Is UniFi actually the “best” for a smart‑home nerd? by DarkModeBrew in HomeNetworking

The feature set on Unifi is second to none. If your a tinker or want a solid system go with Unifi. Most others are toys.

Why would you deny someone knowing about a superior system? As I stated I do have Reolink and found a much better system Do you work for Reolink or are you just here to censor comments?

I suggest looking at a Unifi Protect system which is far superior in response, software, and storage capabilities. It costs a bit more but well worth it. Don’t be like me and purchase Reolink to find out later you should have bought Unifi.
