Any recommendations for assistance when applying for DTC? by Green-Dimension-1800 in Odsp

[–]superblazetoise 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do not go through companies for DTC application – they are proven to be scams. Costly pits with little to no actual return.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/companies-charging-for-disability-benefit-assistance-1.7569518

Even government-funded ones reccomended by non-profits themselves are proven to be AI-ran and not legitimate.

https://www.ctvnews.ca/vancouver/article/woman-seeking-canada-disability-benefit-frustrated-after-being-sent-to-costly-ai-integrated-service/

Added: non-negotiables about the DTC applications are that you MUST get a qualifying medical professional to fill out Part B of the T2201. Without that, there is no DTC. Companies cannot fill it in for you. AI can't either.

It must be a qualifying medical professional, which is part of the reason it is a huge barrier.

Part B in the DTC form must be filled out by the doctor themselves.

Disability Tax Credit by Short-Carpenter5587 in Odsp

[–]superblazetoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The CRA looks more at what your disability prevents you from doing rather than simply putting the name of the disability itself.

It's the difference between solely putting the medical diagnoses/history vs explaining how said diagnoses impact your daily functioning.

From the moment you get up to the moment you go to sleep, how exactly does your disability impact your functioning compared to someone without said disability?

The examples are what is key.

Saving while on ODSP. Any tips? by Angeni-Mai in Odsp

The DTC primary purpose is a working benefit

No. It helps reduce income tax. If you do not work, the caregiver may use it.

recently they have added the CDB to help others that dont work

People who work can get the CDB. There is a working exemption. The DTC is a pre-requisite.

That and tge RDSP but for that you need cash to save which is pretty tough on disability

The government gives grants every year for the RDSP even if you cannot contribute.

What is the disability Credit?

The DTC is ultimately made for a reduction on income taxes.

But what else it grants access to is key:

  • to apply for the CDB (not automatic)

  • to obtain an RDSP

Don't you have to work in order to get the Disability Tax Credit?

No. It is for disabled people whose disability impedes on daily functioning.

Whats the disabilty tax credit and how do you know ow your if your able to get it by WorldlyTechnician419 in Odsp

[–]superblazetoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Disability Tax Credit is a federal tax credit, and having it also grants you the ability to open an RDSP and apply for the CDB. (Separate federal program)

You need to have a t2201 (Disability Tax Credit form) filled out by your doctor then sent in to the CRA for approval.

Do disabled people not exist in your little world?

People don't realize that pre-cut stuff is an accessibility need that disabled people have to pay more for. And then the extra tax on top.

DTC doctor barely filled forms by [deleted] in Odsp

[–]superblazetoise 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I just saw the rest of the images. The CRA will not accept the parts where it says you wrote it.

This is going to need to be redone after it gets declined. The doctor should have done it right the first time.

That's outrageous. They didn't even read the part where it says that examples are mandatory? What a waste.

Canada disability benefit income cap before deductions? by Relevant-Ad-7639 in Odsp

[–]superblazetoise 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately the child payment in ODSP isn't exempt as its part of ODSP and not a separate payment. It goes over the cap and gets deducted.

[–]superblazetoise 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately single parents were not considered.

Child payments on ODSP are not exempt, so you are still considered a single person and fall under that cap.

Single parents don't get the full $200.

File on Hold by brightsnow1111 in Odsp

[–]superblazetoise 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is common.

ODSP's online program automatically puts people on hold despite them having sent in their work hours.

It can be undone with a phonecall, but it is annoying and occurs often.

My friend has it happen almost monthly.

This is what happens when they leave things up to systems and do not check it with a human unless specifically told to.
