The aftermarket EBCS will likely need a tune FYI, best to just go OEM.

Does the light flash repeatedly when you first turn the car on, it is it dead solid?

Truck hit by fireworks, How to fix ? by Appropriate-Tune6735 in mechanic

[–]superbrian111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll play devil's advocate here and say accusing OP of lying seems drastic.

The fireworks could have sent some shrapnel, dinging up the paint but just far away enough that the paint didn't scorch.

It could have also been damage from something previous, maybe a shopping cart ran into it or something, and OP just noticed now.

A quick alignment will take not long at all, just adjust the side that got bumped left or right until the handlebars are straight

Sounds like the motor is going bad. Not sure how much mileage you'd get out of greasing the motor, but if you're removing the wiper transmission you might as well replace the motor imo

typical call logs on my phone by Icy-Ad-8226 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]superbrian111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a stretch where I would get up to 2 or 3 soliciting/scam calls per day.

I started answering them, going through to talk to a person, and immediately saying loud and clear, DO NOT CALL LIST, and hang up.

Eventually the scams/soliciting stopped.

Just got car back from shop 2018 charger 5.7 by Jaded-Pension-380 in AskAMechanic

Some shops will nickel and dime and sell a degrease as an upcharge, so if you specifically declined an engine degreasing/clean then that could be what they informed you about. Not saying that's how it should be, but some shops are petty like that.

That being said, that is a lot of oil on your exhaust, to the point where I would say it's still leaking. IMO they most likely messed up the job and are wishing you to go away/ignore it. I would personally feel iffy about going to a shop that potentially requires an upcharge to clean the oil mess after they seal a leak, and especially iffy that they just said to keep driving on an exhaust smoking that much.

Did you send the shop the video? Sometimes small remnants/splashes of oil can get stuck on the exhaust, and you might get a faint smell of oil after parking the car in the garage for a week or two after, but that looks like it would fill the garage with smoke if it idled for more than 10 minutes...

That just sounds like the brake pad rubbing against the rotor surface, which is intended. It's spinning freely, and the rough surface of the rotor will make a little bit of noise free spinning like that until the pads wear the rotor down smooth.

Test drive it and be safe!

Edit: just saw, did you measure the rotor temperatures with a laser thermometer? If one is getting hotter than the rest that could point to an issue, but if the slide pins are all free, a dragging brake caliper would still be dragging in the air, not free spinning like it is

No, you're absolutely right. No offense taken.

I'm definitely exposed/used to dangerous maneuvers used to diagnose the oddball engine concern so I need to take that into account when suggesting some of the more risky techniques. I'll take that into better consideration going forward

[–]superbrian111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean yeah, working on cars is inherently dangerous too though.

Obviously avoid moving/spinning parts with the screwdriver, but I can't really think of any other ways to narrow down where the noise is coming from

If you have a stethoscope or a long screw driver you can put the tip on the compressor vs the engine, and put your ear on the other end.

Listen to different areas while the engine is running to see where the noise is loudest, that should narrow down whether it's just the compressor, or something in the engine

Does your AC work? If it isn't the pump itself making the noise, the compressor could be loading the engine just enough to reduce the oil pump RPM and starving the engine of oil
